Zip Security announced a $13.5 million Series A on July 14, 2025, led by Ballistic Ventures. Silver Buckshot, Mantis VC, General Catalyst, Human Capital, and Box Group also participated. The New York-based startup said the financing lifted its total funding to $21 million.
Zip is building a software-first security and IT operating layer for small and midsize businesses that need stronger controls and compliance support without hiring a large in-house security team.
What happened in Zip Security’s funding round?
According to the company’s July 14, 2025 announcement, the round was a Series A led by Ballistic Ventures. Participants were:

General Catalyst, Human Capital, and Box Group were described as existing backers. The announcement did not disclose a valuation, revenue figures, customer count, or individual check sizes. SecurityWeek also reported that Zip was founded in 2022 and is headquartered in New York.

Zip was founded by Josh Zweig, chief executive officer, and Gabbi Merz, chief technology officer.

What Zip Security sells
Zip describes its product as a unified security and IT platform. Rather than being only an endpoint product or a compliance dashboard, it combines software with implementation, procurement, configuration, monitoring, and expert support.

Zip says it supports work related to SOC 2, HIPAA, ISO 27001, NIST, and PCI requirements. Those capabilities can help deploy controls and collect evidence; they should not be confused with an audit opinion, legal compliance advice, or certification by Zip itself.

It coordinates existing tools rather than replacing every one
The funding announcement identified integrations with CrowdStrike, Google Workspace, Jamf, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory), and Okta. Zip’s current product pages also reference Chrome Enterprise, Vanta, and Drata.
In practical terms, Zip generally sits above or alongside these systems. The company says customers can retain access to underlying Jamf, Intune, and CrowdStrike capabilities and licenses. That makes Zip closer to an operating and orchestration layer than a replacement for every identity, device-management, endpoint, or compliance product.
Its Intune overview, for example, presents Zip as a way to simplify deployment and management while coordinating Microsoft’s underlying service.

Who is the target customer?
Zip is primarily aimed at startups, small and midsize businesses, and mid-market organizations with limited or no dedicated security staff. It also markets to lean IT teams, companies facing customer or insurer security questionnaires, and organizations that need controls for regulated or security-sensitive work.

The funding release framed the opportunity around businesses with fewer than 100 employees and said, citing company research, that 95% lack cybersecurity professionals. That statistic is a Zip-attributed claim, not an independently verified market-wide finding in the funding coverage.
The company also says larger enterprises may use the platform to simplify security operations, while its partner offering targets vCISOs and MSPs.
The problem Zip is trying to solve
Smaller companies often need enterprise-style safeguards to win customers, obtain insurance, or meet contractual and regulatory expectations. Yet they may not have specialists who can configure identity systems, enroll devices, tune endpoint protection, maintain policies, monitor alerts, and assemble audit evidence.

Its platform attempts to connect those tools with deployment, enforcement, monitoring, remediation, and support.

The company contrasts that model with traditional consultants and managed-service providers. That is Zip’s market argument, not proof that every MSP or consultant is expensive, reactive, or ineffective. An MSP may still be the better choice for a business that needs broad help-desk, infrastructure, and day-to-day IT administration.
Why Ballistic Ventures’ leadership matters
Ballistic Ventures led the financing, giving the round a clear cybersecurity-investment focus. The participation of General Catalyst, Human Capital, and Box Group also indicates continued support from existing investors. The investor list alone does not establish Zip’s valuation, expected returns, or future performance, but it does show that the company attracted both a specialist cybersecurity investor and generalist venture firms.
How Zip plans to use the money
Zip said it will use the capital to:
- Expand engineering
- Grow go-to-market operations
- Build additional third-party integrations
- Increase its presence in defense
- Expand in finance, healthcare, and software
The announcement did not specify hiring totals, product-release dates, revenue goals, or geographic expansion plans.

Pricing and deployment claims need context
Zip’s public pages promote a flat-price approach, no per-ticket fees, and a white-glove service model, but they do not publish a universal dollar price. Buyers are directed to a demo and custom quote. A separate Zip comparison page uses an illustrative MSP cost of about $150 per user per month; that is Zip’s model, not an independently verified market average.

Zip also markets deployment in roughly 14 days or less. That may describe a standard technical onboarding path. It does not mean every organization will be fully secure in two weeks, nor does it equal completion of a SOC 2, HIPAA, ISO 27001, or other external audit.
Similarly, claims about 24/7 protection, AI-powered operations, questionnaire completion, or savings of up to 80% should be treated as company marketing claims unless supported by independently reviewed data.
What prospective customers should verify
Before signing, a buyer should ask:
- Which integrations are generally available today, and which require additional work?
- Which operating systems, device types, remote-worker scenarios, and personally owned devices are supported?
- What happens if the customer changes its identity provider or MDM vendor?
- How are automated remediation, false positives, exceptions, and rollbacks handled?
- Can the customer export configurations, logs, and compliance evidence?
- Who owns the underlying software licenses and data?
- What are the incident-response responsibilities between Zip and third-party vendors?
- Are independent SOC 2 reports, penetration-test summaries, insurance documents, data-processing terms, and service-level commitments available?
- What portion of monitoring is performed by Zip personnel, partners, or automated systems?
What remains unknown
The financing announcement and available coverage do not establish Zip’s valuation, revenue, customer retention, independent security certifications, uptime record, incident-response performance, or standard pricing. Those gaps matter when comparing the company with a mature MSP, a dedicated endpoint provider, or a compliance platform.

The investment reflects a broader effort to make security operations accessible to organizations that cannot build a large security department. Zip is competing for budget that might otherwise go to software vendors, MSPs, vCISOs, consultants, and internal hires.
The central commercial question is whether a coordinated platform can deliver reliable security outcomes without creating excessive dependence on one provider. Its progress will depend on integration breadth, implementation quality, pricing, customer retention, and the quality of automated and human response—not simply on the size of the funding round.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Zip Security raised $13.5 million in a July 2025 Series A led by Ballistic Ventures, bringing reported total funding to $21 million. It is using the capital to expand a software-led security and IT platform for smaller organizations. The opportunity is substantial, but buyers should independently verify integrations, pricing, service levels, data handling, and the difference between compliance readiness and formal certification.
