Zillow Group promoted Jun Choo to chief operating officer on November 14, 2024, filling the role vacated when Jeremy Wacksman became CEO in August. On the same day, Zillow announced that President Susan Daimler and Senior Vice President of Product Matt Daimler were leaving the company. Zillow presented the changes as part of its effort to connect its consumer marketplace, real-estate software and transaction services—not as a disclosed cost-cutting program or crisis response.
What changed on November 14, 2024
Choo’s appointment was effective immediately, according to Zillow Group’s announcement and a related Form 8-K. He moved up from senior vice president of real-estate software.
Choo succeeded Wacksman, who had been COO before becoming CEO on August 7, 2024. In that earlier succession, co-founder Rich Barton left the CEO job and became co-executive chair. The November appointment therefore completed an internal handoff rather than creating a new, externally recruited operating chief.

The COO role covers substantially more than internal administration. Zillow said Choo would oversee:
#1 Best Overall
- For-sale business strategy and operations
- Enhanced Markets
- Mortgages
- Real-estate industry product lines
- Sales and operating functions
Those responsibilities include major products such as Zillow Premier Agent, ShowingTime, dotloop, Zillow Showcase and Aryeo, along with other tools for agents, brokers and multiple-listing services. In practical terms, the job links Zillow’s home-search audience with lead generation, listing and showing workflows, transaction software and mortgage activity.
Who is Jun Choo?
Choo joined Zillow through the company’s 2015 acquisition of Trulia, where he had been vice president of pricing and inventory. At Zillow he held leadership roles spanning strategy, marketing, operations, business programs, product management and real-estate software. Zillow describes him as having more than two decades of leadership and go-to-market experience in real-estate technology; he holds an economics degree from Harvard.
The company credited Choo with creating the Connections platform, developing market-based pricing for Premier Agent, and leading the development and nationwide launch of Zillow Showcase. Those are Zillow’s descriptions of his work, not independently measured performance claims.

The Form 8-K disclosed a $674,565 base salary associated with his appointment. That figure is not total compensation and excludes potential bonuses, equity awards and realized pay.
Why Zillow needed a new COO
Wacksman’s move to CEO created the vacancy. Zillow’s August 2024 filing records the sequence: Barton stepped away from the CEO role, Wacksman moved from COO to CEO, and Barton continued as co-executive chair.
Choosing Choo internally gave Zillow an executive already familiar with its consumer products, professional software, sales organization and operating processes. The public materials do not say that Zillow conducted a formal external search or publish a new division of duties between Wacksman and Choo, so those conclusions should not be assumed.

Who are Susan and Matt Daimler?
Susan Daimler
Susan Daimler was Zillow’s president. She joined in 2012 when Zillow acquired Buyfolio, a co-shopping platform she co-founded. Before becoming president, she led Zillow’s Premier Agent business as a senior vice president and served as general manager of StreetEasy.

The SEC filing describes transition and separation arrangements extending beyond that date, so “left the presidency immediately” is more precise than saying her employment ended that day.
Matt Daimler
Matt Daimler was Zillow’s senior vice president of product. He and Susan were married and had co-founded Buyfolio; they also co-founded SeatGuru, later acquired by Expedia. Zillow confirmed that Matt was leaving, but its announcement did not provide his exact final date, transition terms or next employer. Susan’s disclosed arrangements should not automatically be attributed to him.

What the reshuffle signaled
Zillow described the leadership change alongside a vision of a more integrated, technology-enabled real-estate transaction experience spanning buying, selling, financing, renting and professional services. Choo’s portfolio places him at the intersection of those businesses.
That makes the appointment strategically notable: his background was concentrated in industry software and professional tools, while the COO remit extends across consumer-facing operations, mortgage, market initiatives and sales. This is an inference from the stated responsibilities and product portfolio, not a separate claim that Zillow announced a formal reorganization.

It confirms two executive departures during a broader leadership transition, but does not disclose their reasons.
What happened afterward
Zillow’s 2026 proxy materials state that Choo had served as chief operating officer since November 2024. That later filing supports the conclusion that his appointment was a continuing role rather than a short-term interim assignment.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Zillow’s November 2024 change was an internal succession: Jun Choo moved from real-estate software leadership into a broad COO role after Jeremy Wacksman became CEO, while Susan and Matt Daimler departed. The structure aligned the company’s marketplace, professional software and transaction businesses, but the public filings do not establish a crisis-driven restructuring or explain Matt Daimler’s next move.
