Yes—Samsung’s U.S. site now lists a standalone trade-in program that lets you trade in an eligible Samsung smartphone without buying a replacement phone. The service is operated independently by Likewize, and the amount you receive depends on the model and condition of your device. Samsung’s public page describes the compensation as “value,” so confirm whether the current offer is cash, credit, or another payment type before shipping your phone.
This is different from Samsung’s usual purchase-linked trade-in, which applies a credit toward a new qualifying product. The U.S. availability described here was verified on August 18, 2026.
Samsung’s standalone trade-in is different from its normal program
Samsung’s standard trade-in is primarily an upgrade tool: you select a new qualifying Samsung product, receive an estimated trade-in credit, and send your old device after the replacement arrives. Depending on the offer, the standard program can accept phones, tablets, watches, earbuds, PCs, and some non-Samsung devices. See Samsung’s U.S. trade-in page for current terms.
The standalone option removes the new-phone requirement. Samsung’s U.S. page says it accepts eligible used Samsung smartphones, with Likewize operating the service independently.

Is Samsung’s standalone trade-in available in the U.S.?
According to Samsung’s current U.S. trade-in page, yes. That updates the original January 14, 2025 announcement, which described a year-round program initially piloted in South Korea and France. Samsung said at the time that it planned to expand the service to additional markets. The original announcement also listed examples such as Galaxy S20 through S23 phones and Galaxy Z Fold3 through Fold5 and Z Flip3 through Flip5 models, but those examples were market-dependent and should not be treated as the current U.S. eligibility list.
Check the live U.S. flow rather than relying on older articles or launch-period trade-in prices:
- Open Samsung’s U.S. trade-in page.
- Select Standalone Trade-In Program, not the purchase-linked option.
- Follow the link to the Likewize quote portal.
- Enter the exact model and answer the condition questions.
- Record the quote, date, expiration period, and payment terms.
What will Samsung actually pay?
There is no fixed universal U.S. payout table in Samsung’s public FAQ. The live Likewize quote is the relevant figure, and it can vary with the exact model, storage version, condition, and current program rules.

Do not assume that a highly publicized Samsung launch promotion applies here. Samsung’s highest trade-in values are often tied to buying a specific new phone. A standalone quote may be lower because it does not include that purchase promotion.
Before accepting, confirm:
- Whether compensation is cash, electronic payment, Samsung credit, or another form of value.
- Whether the offer expires or is locked after submission.
- Who pays shipping.
- Whether inspection can reduce the quoted amount.
- Whether you can reject a revised offer and have the phone returned.
- Whether an accepted phone can be returned.
Rules reported for Samsung’s U.K. standalone program—including store-credit validity—do not establish the terms of the U.S. service. Treat foreign-market prices and credit rules as separate.
Which phones qualify?
Samsung describes the U.S. standalone service as accepting used Samsung smartphones. The exact model list is dynamic and should be checked in the Likewize portal. “Any Galaxy phone” is too broad: eligibility may exclude older models, particular variants, or devices with certain damage.

Samsung’s regular U.S. trade-in guidance generally requires a device to power on, hold a charge, have a functioning display, and be free of prohibited cracks, liquid damage, corrosion, and serious defects. It must also be removed from personal accounts and software locks, factory-reset, and owned by the customer rather than leased. Those are standard-program requirements; use the standalone portal’s condition rules for the definitive answer.

If the phone is still your daily device, the standalone program gives you no replacement handset. Arrange another phone first and complete this checklist:
- Back up photos, messages, authenticator data, contacts, and other important files.
- Remove your Google and Samsung accounts.
- Disable Find My Mobile, Find My Device, activation locks, and other remote-lock features.
- Remove the SIM and microSD card.
- Factory-reset the handset.
- Photograph the screen, frame, cameras, ports, IMEI, and all visible damage.
- Photograph the phone in its packaging and retain shipping and tracking records.
Samsung’s device-preparation guidance emphasizes removing personal information and software locks before shipment. A factory reset alone may not remove an account-based activation lock.

What if the inspection lowers the offer?
The usual risk is straightforward: you receive an initial estimate, the phone is inspected, and the final value changes if its actual condition does not match your answers. The standalone service’s terms control the remedy, so read them before mailing the device.
Documenting the phone helps if there is a dispute, but it does not guarantee the original quote. Do not ship until you understand the revised-offer and return process.
Samsung’s standard purchase-linked rules illustrate why this matters: a rejected device may be returned and the credited amount charged back, while an accepted device generally cannot be returned—even if the customer later returns the new Samsung purchase. Samsung’s public standard rules also mention a 15-day shipping window after receiving a qualifying new product and a seven-day period to accept a rejected-device return offer. Those deadlines should not automatically be applied to the standalone program.

Important ownership and damage issues
Financed or leased phones
Samsung’s regular FAQ says an installment-plan phone must be fully paid off before trade-in, and leased devices are generally ineligible unless purchased from the carrier first. The standalone portal may have its own checks, but do not send a phone that remains carrier-owned or subject to an unresolved financing obligation. Review Samsung’s trade-in FAQ.
Cracked or water-damaged phones
Some Samsung purchase promotions accept cracked phones or devices in “any condition.” That does not prove the standalone service accepts the same damage. Answer the live condition questions accurately and do not rely on a promotional exception.
Data and privacy
Do not assume a recycler or buyer will erase your data for you. Back up the phone, remove accounts, disable locks, reset it, and remove removable storage before shipment.

Samsung versus selling the phone elsewhere
Samsung’s standalone option is convenient, but it is not automatically the highest-paying route.
- Choose Samsung/Likewize if you value a simple manufacturer-linked workflow, prepaid shipping, and avoiding marketplace messages or in-person meetings.
- Consider a private sale if the phone is a recent flagship in excellent condition and you are willing to handle listing, negotiation, payment risk, and shipping for a potentially higher price.
- Consider a specialist buyback service if you want a middle ground between convenience and price. Compare the net amount after fees and shipping.
- Consider a carrier promotion only if you already plan to upgrade and the required plan, installment, and bill-credit terms make financial sense.
- Keep the phone if its value as an emergency handset, travel phone, camera, authenticator, or media player exceeds the quoted payment.
Compare offers on the same day and for the same condition. A private-sale listing price is not the same as a completed-sale price, and a carrier’s headline trade-in value may depend on a new purchase and long-term bill credits.
A practical decision rule
- Get the live standalone quote from Likewize.
- Check Samsung’s current purchase-linked trade-in value only if you genuinely want a new Samsung product.
- Get at least one reputable buyback quote and estimate a private-sale net amount.
- Subtract fees, shipping, taxes, required plans, and the value of your time.
- Choose the route with the best combination of net value, payment flexibility, and acceptable risk.
Samsung’s standalone program solves a real problem: you can turn an eligible Galaxy phone into value without being forced to buy another phone. But the live quote and terms—not an old promotion or a foreign-market article—should determine whether it is the right financial choice.
