A February 12, 2026 leak alleged that the Xiaomi 17 would cost ₹80,000 in India and the Xiaomi 17 Ultra would cost ₹1,25,000. Those figures were attributed to tipster Abhishek Yadav, not confirmed by Xiaomi. The reported 23% increase applies to the standard Xiaomi 17—not the Ultra—and should now be treated as a retrospective, unverified estimate because Xiaomi has since launched the series in China and globally.
The leaked prices and the mathematics

For the Xiaomi 17, the difference is ₹15,001. Dividing that by ₹64,999 and multiplying by 100 gives approximately 23.1%. For the Ultra, the same ₹15,001 difference divided by ₹1,09,999 gives approximately 13.6%, normally rounded to 14%.
The comparison also needs a configuration warning. The original report said the Xiaomi 15 reference was the 12GB/512GB model, while the Xiaomi 15 Ultra comparison used a 16GB/512GB configuration. The alleged Xiaomi 17 price was not tied clearly to a confirmed RAM and storage tier. A price comparison is only meaningful when memory, storage, taxes and included accessories are comparable.

The figures came from a tipster claim reported by Gizmochina. Xiaomi was not cited as confirming either number, and the report itself advised caution.

- Confidence: low to medium as a directional pricing signal, but low for the exact Indian prices.
The reported appearance of the standard Xiaomi 17 in a Bureau of Indian Standards database could support the possibility of an Indian release. BIS certification does not, by itself, prove a launch date, final configuration, price or retail availability.
What happened after the leak?
- December 25, 2025: Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi 17 Ultra in China.
- December 27, 2025: Chinese sales began, according to Xiaomi’s announcement.
- February 12, 2026: The alleged Indian prices were reported.
- February 28, 2026: Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra globally at an event in Barcelona.
The original leak’s expectation of a future Indian launch is therefore historical wording, not a current buying update. Readers should check the relevant official Xiaomi regional site for actual local availability and pricing.

These prices are confirmed by Xiaomi’s official announcement. They are not Indian MSRPs. Mainland-China pricing may reflect different taxes, distribution costs, warranty arrangements, exchange rates, promotional practices and hardware configurations. A direct RMB-to-rupee conversion cannot prove that ₹80,000 or ₹1,25,000 is either correct or incorrect.
Xiaomi also lists the Xiaomi 17 Ultra product page, while the Xiaomi 17 product page is the appropriate place to verify regional specifications where available.
European figures were leaks too
A separate report cited a leaked European price of €1,499 for a 16GB/512GB Xiaomi 17 Ultra. That number was not presented as an official Xiaomi price in the cited Android Authority coverage. Another report mentioned a retailer listing suggesting €1,099 for a 512GB Xiaomi 17 and estimated a lower 256GB starting price near €999; those figures should likewise not be treated as official MSRP without a Xiaomi regional announcement.

There are therefore three different categories of evidence: official China MSRP, an unconfirmed Indian tip, and separate unconfirmed European reports. Combining them into one global price table would create false precision.
Regional hardware can change the value calculation
International versions are not necessarily identical to Chinese versions. Reports cited a possible 6,800mAh Chinese battery and 6,000mAh global battery for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The same coverage noted that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra reportedly had a 6,000mAh Chinese battery but a 5,410mAh international battery. Another report claimed the global Xiaomi 17 could use a 6,330mAh battery compared with 7,000mAh in China.
These battery figures should be treated as reported specifications or leaks unless confirmed on the applicable regional product page. Other differences can include charging, connectivity bands, eSIM support, software features, accessories and warranty terms. A higher overseas price paired with different hardware could materially change the value proposition.

Would ₹80,000 be reasonable for the Xiaomi 17?
At ₹80,000, the standard Xiaomi 17 would be ₹15,001 more expensive than the cited Xiaomi 15 comparison—an increase large enough to affect a buyer’s budget and monthly instalment decision. But the leak alone cannot establish that the phone would be poor value.
Before judging the price, compare the exact RAM and storage tier, camera hardware, processor and thermal performance, display, battery and charging, software-support policy, charger and accessories, trade-in value and launch offers. A higher starting price might correspond to more storage or a different specification, while bank discounts and exchange bonuses could reduce the effective purchase price below the headline MSRP.
Would ₹1,25,000 make the Ultra competitive?
A ₹1,25,000 Ultra would compete directly for buyers considering Samsung’s flagship Ultra phones or Apple’s Pro Max models. Xiaomi would need to justify that price through more than a specification sheet. Relevant questions include:

- Does the Indian or global model retain the Chinese version’s imaging and battery hardware?
- How long will Xiaomi provide software and security updates?
- How accessible are authorised repairs and service centres?
- What are the phone’s resale and trade-in prospects?
- Are Leica features and the 1TB tier included or priced separately?
Camera hardware may be a major reason to consider the Ultra, but specifications alone do not establish image quality. A buyer paying five figures should also account for ownership costs, service convenience, resale value and ecosystem benefits—not only the launch price.
Why could Indian pricing differ?
Possible explanations for a higher Indian price include component or memory costs, currency movements, import duties and taxes, local distribution, warranty and service commitments, certification, regional hardware changes, different storage tiers and premium positioning. The February report mentioned memory shortages as one possibility, but the cited evidence does not show Xiaomi confirming that this caused the alleged increase.
Should Indian buyers wait?
Do not make a purchase decision based on the leaked numbers alone. Before paying or importing, verify:

- The official India product page and authorised sales channel.
- The exact RAM and storage configuration behind the price.
- Whether the figure is MSRP or an effective launch price after bank, trade-in or bundle offers.
- Battery, charging, connectivity and software specifications for the Indian model.
- Warranty coverage, service-centre support and replacement terms.
- Whether an imported Chinese phone supports the languages, banking apps, Google services, Android Auto and network bands you need.
Importing can produce a lower sticker price, but it may also mean limited warranty support, region-specific software, compatibility problems, difficult returns and weaker resale value. Compare the complete ownership cost rather than the converted China price.
Verdict
The headline was mathematically sound but easy to misread. The alleged ₹80,000 Xiaomi 17 represented an increase of about 23% over the cited Xiaomi 15 price, while the alleged ₹1,25,000 Xiaomi 17 Ultra represented about 14% over the cited Xiaomi 15 Ultra price. Neither Indian figure was established as an official Xiaomi MSRP in the evidence available for the leak.
With the series now launched in China and globally, the useful question is not whether the old rumour was “confirmed,” but whether the actual regional configuration and ownership package justify the final Indian price. Wait for Xiaomi India’s official figure, match storage tiers carefully, and include taxes, discounts, warranty and resale in the calculation.
