As of September 13, 2026, the available evidence does not conclusively verify a Wells Fargo-wide website and mobile-app outage. Customers did report Wells Fargo app crashes on iOS 26.6, but some reports also described unrelated apps failing. Other customers reported trouble connecting Wells Fargo to Monarch, Plaid, or Finicity while direct Wells Fargo access worked. Those are not automatically signs that Wells Fargo Online or Wells Fargo Mobile is down.
This guide explains how to distinguish a bank-wide disruption from a device, browser, network, authentication, or third-party-account-connection problem.
Is Wells Fargo down for everyone?
“Wells Fargo is down” can describe several different problems:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- WellsFargo.com will not load.
- The sign-on page loads, but login fails.
- The app crashes, freezes, or returns to the phone’s home screen.
- Balances or transactions do not refresh.
- Transfers, Zelle, bill pay, or mobile deposits fail.
- A budgeting or investing app cannot connect to Wells Fargo.
- Your individual access is suspended or locked.
A genuine Wells Fargo-side incident becomes more likely when the website and app fail at the same time, the problem occurs across multiple devices and networks, and customers report the same error. A local or account-specific problem is more likely when only one browser, phone, or third-party service is affected.

Independent outage-monitoring sites can help identify a spike in reports, but they rely on user submissions or automated checks and are not official confirmation. StatusGator’s Wells Fargo incident history shows that partial problems involving online banking, transfers, bill pay, and app login are plausible, but it does not establish that the August 16 reports were a confirmed outage.
What customers reported on August 16
Users on Reddit reported Wells Fargo and other apps failing to open on iPhones running iOS 26.6. Some said the issue affected unrelated apps and had lasted for an extended period. That supports the existence of app-access complaints, but it does not prove that Wells Fargo’s banking infrastructure was broadly unavailable. The reports may indicate an iOS or device-level problem, although the available evidence does not establish the cause.
Separate reports described failed connections between Wells Fargo and services such as Monarch, Plaid, and Finicity. If Wells Fargo’s own website and app work but a budgeting app cannot refresh an account, the likely problem is account aggregation, authentication, or the third-party service—not necessarily Wells Fargo Online.
No official Wells Fargo incident statement confirming a nationwide outage was identified in the available material. See the iOS app-crash reports, Wells Fargo customer reports, and Monarch user reports with appropriate caution: social posts are reports, not confirmation.
Quick way to identify the problem
| What you see | Most likely explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Website and app fail across devices and networks | Possible Wells Fargo-side or partial outage | Check official notices, independent reports, and try again later without repeatedly submitting transactions. |
| Only the app fails | App, phone, operating-system, or device-memory issue | Restart, update, test Wells Fargo Online, and reinstall only when you know your credentials and can complete authentication. |
| Only one browser fails | Cache, cookies, JavaScript, extensions, or browser compatibility | Clear temporary files, enable JavaScript and cookies, and try another supported browser. |
| Only a budgeting or investing app fails | Third-party aggregation or authentication issue | Reconnect the account through that service; do not assume Wells Fargo itself is unavailable. |
| You see a password or access-suspension message | Security or authentication issue | Stop guessing the password and use Wells Fargo’s official reset process. |
Fixes to try before calling Wells Fargo
- Check whether other websites and apps work.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data.
- Try Wells Fargo Online in a supported browser if the app fails, or the app if the website fails.
- Force-close the app and reopen it.
- Restart your phone or tablet.
- Install available Wells Fargo app and operating-system updates.
- Clear browser cache and temporary internet files.
- Confirm that JavaScript and cookies are enabled.
- Try another supported browser and temporarily disable extensions that interfere with scripts, pop-ups, login pages, or privacy controls.
- Close background apps if the device has limited available memory.
Wells Fargo’s online troubleshooting guidance identifies browser compatibility, disabled JavaScript or cookies, cached files, pop-up restrictions, outdated browsers, and network quality as possible causes. Do not permanently weaken browser security settings just to force a banking login.
iPhone and iPad
Force-close the app, restart the device, update the app and iOS/iPadOS, and test the website in Safari or another supported browser. Reinstall the app only after confirming that you know your sign-on details and can complete any required verification.
Android
Force-close the app, restart the device, update Android and the Wells Fargo app, and clear the app cache through the device’s app settings. Reinstall if necessary, again making sure you can sign in and complete authentication afterward. Wells Fargo’s mobile troubleshooting guidance recommends a strong Wi-Fi or cellular connection, restarting the device, closing background apps, and reinstalling when needed.

Supported browsers and operating systems
Wells Fargo’s currently indexed requirements page lists these minimums:
- Microsoft Edge 79 or higher
- Firefox 69 or higher
- Safari 13.1 or higher
- Google Chrome 70 or higher
- iOS/iPadOS 15 or higher
- Android 10 or higher
The page says beta browsers and beta operating systems are not supported. It was last updated September 11, 2024, so treat these as the requirements shown on Wells Fargo’s support page—not necessarily the newest requirements for September 2026. Check the official supported-browser page for current changes.
If your password or access is suspended
Do not keep entering different passwords. Wells Fargo says repeated unsuccessful sign-on attempts can lead to an online-access suspension. Use the official password and sign-on help. If you cannot complete the reset, Wells Fargo lists Online Customer Service at 1-800-956-4442.
What to do about urgent payments or transfers
- Check whether a transfer or bill payment posted before submitting it again.
- Save screenshots of error messages and record the date and time.
- Avoid repeatedly retrying a payment, since service recovery could create a duplicate.
- Use a Wells Fargo ATM, branch, or phone banker where possible.
- Contact the merchant or biller if a due date is imminent.
- Never give your username, password, one-time code, or full account details to someone offering “outage assistance.”
A failed screen does not by itself mean money is missing. Confirm the transaction status through an official Wells Fargo channel before taking corrective action.
Wells Fargo support and fallback channels
For online-banking questions, Wells Fargo lists 1-800-956-4442, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. General banking service is listed at 1-800-869-3557, also 24/7. Use the numbers on the bank’s official contact page or on the back of your card, especially for fraud or suspicious activity.
If both digital channels are unavailable, Wells Fargo customers can use ATMs, visit a branch, or call phone banking. Wells Fargo also maintains an official temporary-unavailability page. A generic or older unavailable page should not, by itself, be treated as proof of a current incident.
Outage, maintenance, or security issue?
- Outage: Multiple services fail for many customers across devices and networks.
- Partial outage: Login works, but transfers, bill pay, Zelle, statements, deposits, or balances do not.
- Maintenance: A bank notice or temporary-unavailability message explains that service is restricted.
- Device or browser issue: Only one phone, browser, network, or app is affected.
- Security issue: You receive an access-suspension, identity-verification, or suspicious-activity message.
- Third-party failure: A financial aggregator cannot connect while Wells Fargo’s own channels remain available.
Bottom line: The August 16 customer reports show that some users had trouble accessing Wells Fargo-related services, but the available evidence does not establish a confirmed nationwide Wells Fargo website and app outage. Test both official channels, switch networks, avoid repeated login or payment attempts, and contact Wells Fargo through verified channels when the problem persists.
