Warp’s Pricing Reckoning: What Changed—and What It Costs in 2026

Warp did not simply replace one set of plans with another. In October 2025, it retired its Pro, Turbo, and Lightspeed tiers and shifted more AI costs to usage credits and customer-managed model billing. By August 2026, Warp had added a high-capacity Max plan and now sells five plans. For buyers, the practical question is the full monthly bill: subscription fee plus any reload credits and, if using BYOK, model-provider charges.

What changed in Warp’s pricing?

On October 30, 2025, Warp announced that it would deprecate its legacy Pro, Turbo, and Lightspeed plans in favor of a credit-based model initially centered on Build. Existing subscribers were due to move at their first renewal after December 1, 2025, rather than all switching immediately. Business also continued, with revised credit and administration terms. The announcement introduced reload credits in place of the old overage model and offered bring-your-own-key (BYOK) for model inference. Warp’s announcement explains the original transition.

The change was a transfer of some cost risk. Under a fixed allowance, Warp bore more of the risk that a customer’s inference use would exceed what the subscription covered. With metered credits and reloads, customers bear more of that risk when their agent use is heavy or unpredictable.

The 2025 announcement is not the whole current picture. As of August 2026, Warp’s public pricing page lists Free, Build, Max, Business, and Enterprise. Max gives high-volume customers a larger prepaid allowance, so Warp has not eliminated tiers; it replaced the legacy structure and later expanded the new one.

Why Warp said it changed the model

Warp’s stated rationale was that usage varied widely: some subscribers did not use all their included credits, while heavy users could consume substantially more inference than their subscriptions covered. The company also said its old overage system could cost up to eight times more per credit than the credits bundled into legacy plans. In its announcement, Warp described reload credits as roughly 50% cheaper per thousand credits than old overages; current support documentation describes savings of up to about 40%, depending on the credit purchase. Those are company-reported comparisons, not a guarantee of a particular customer’s savings. See the current pricing FAQs for the later qualification.

Warp’s argument is that a usage-linked price can reduce wasted allowance for lighter users and better reflect the cost of intensive agent workflows. The trade-off is less certainty for buyers: a plan’s headline price no longer tells you the likely bill unless you also understand how much of its allowance your work consumes.

Warp’s current plans and prices

The prices below are the public U.S.-dollar rates shown by Warp on August 18, 2026. Annual rates are effective monthly prices with annual billing, so they involve an annual commitment; the page presents them as a 10% discount versus monthly billing.

Plan Price What it includes
Free $0/month Core terminal features, BYOK, limited cloud-agent access, limited Warp Drive and collaboration, limited cloud conversation storage, and individually configured data controls. It is not an unlimited hosted-AI plan.
Build $20/month monthly; $18/month effective with annual billing 1,500 credits, full Warp Agent access, reload credits with volume discounts, extended cloud-agent access, the highest codebase-indexing limits, unlimited Warp Drive objects and collaboration, unlimited cloud conversation storage, and private email support. Warp values the included credits at $20 of agent usage at API rates; that is not a promise of a fixed number of prompts or tasks.
Max $200/month monthly; $180/month effective with annual billing Everything in Build and 18,000 credits—12 times Build’s included amount. Warp added this high-capacity tier in 2026; its changelog records product changes.
Business $50/user/month monthly; $45/user/month effective with annual billing 1,500 credits per seat, team usage metrics, admin-configurable data controls, SAML-based SSO, reload-credit discounts, and a public-plan limit of up to 25 seats.
Enterprise Custom pricing Unlimited seats, custom shared credit pools and usage terms, advanced spend controls, enterprise administration and governance, analytics API, multi-admin support, BYO LLM, self-hosted cloud agents, custom codebase indexing, cross-harness agent memory research preview, and white-glove onboarding and account support.

There is a published Business seat-limit discrepancy: the 2025 announcement described a 50-member limit, while the current pricing page says up to 25 seats. The table uses the current public offer; confirm the applicable limit with Warp before buying if seat count is material.

How credits affect the bill

A credit is not a prompt. Warp says every Agent interaction uses at least one credit, but complex interactions can use more, and similar requests may consume different amounts. Task complexity, repository size, context gathered, model choice, tool calls, agent activity, and whether the run uses Warp-hosted cloud infrastructure can all affect consumption. The credit documentation describes this variable usage.

That means 1,500 credits cannot be translated reliably into a count of bug fixes, refactors, test-generation jobs, terminal sessions, or long-context debugging tasks. Warp’s API-rate valuation helps explain the allowance, but output and cost depend on how the agent handles each task.

Reload credits and rollover

Warp publishes these add-on credit bundles:

Credits Price Approximate cost per credit
400 $10 $0.025
1,000 $20 $0.020
3,000 $50 About $0.0167
6,500 $100 About $0.0154

According to Warp’s add-on credit documentation, purchased credits remain valid for 12 months and roll over between billing cycles. Auto-reload can buy credits when the balance reaches 100; users can set a monthly spending limit. Before enabling it, learn your normal consumption and set a cap. On-demand purchases are easier to control for sporadic use. Either way, monitor use by model and workflow, especially for long-running agents and repository-wide tasks.

Effective monthly cost = plan fee + reload/add-on spending + external BYOK/API spending

Review at least one month of actual use, then estimate light, typical, and peak months separately. A single average can conceal the occasional expensive month that matters most to a household or small-team budget. Do not infer a prompt budget from the credit count; use your own usage records.

What BYOK changes—and what it does not

With BYOK, a user connects their own model-provider API key or compatible inference endpoint. Warp’s original Build announcement said users could connect OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google keys through Settings > AI and pay the provider directly for that inference.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Warp’s May 20, 2026 bring-your-own-inference announcement says qualifying individual users and companies with 10 or fewer people on Free, Build, or Max do not pay Warp credits for their BYO inference. That policy should not be assumed to apply in the same way to larger organizations or every Enterprise configuration. Avoid treating BYOK as free: the model provider may charge for tokens or other services, and the Warp subscription can still matter for terminal, agent-harness, cloud, collaboration, or indexing features.

  • More operational work: The user must secure API keys, understand provider rate limits and billing, and handle provider availability.
  • Privacy responsibility: Warp says it does not control the model provider’s privacy or data-retention policies when customers use their own key. Check the provider’s terms before sending proprietary, regulated, or corporate code.

Who is likely to benefit—and who may pay more?

Warp said more than half of users would either see their monthly cost decrease or rise by less than $2 under the change. That is Warp’s aggregate analysis, not an independently verified result or a prediction for an individual account. The more useful comparison is between your workflow and the pricing mechanics.

Occasional terminal user

Free may fit if Warp is mainly a terminal and occasional AI work can use BYOK or the plan’s limited cloud-agent access. It is a poor fit if you need substantial Warp-hosted inference or extensive cloud-agent work.

Moderate solo developer

Build is the starting paid plan for someone who wants full individual Agent access and can treat 1,500 credits as an allowance to measure, not a guaranteed task count. BYOK can be useful for someone comfortable managing a provider account. Build is a weaker fit if daily agent work routinely exhausts the allowance and reloads become substantial.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Heavy agent user

Max’s 18,000 credits may suit someone who prefers a larger prepaid allowance to frequent reloads and whose use fits within it. At $200 monthly or $180 effective monthly on annual billing, it is a significant commitment before any additional usage. Light users, people already paying for several coding agents, and teams needing enterprise governance may not get value from the extra capacity.

  • The pre-installed tactile Keychron switch providing unrivaled tactile responsiveness with up to 50 million keystroke durable lifespan.
  • Outfitted the C2 Non-Backlight version with retro-inspired color scheme looks as good in the office as it does in the game room.

Small engineering team

Business is aimed at teams that need centralized billing, team usage metrics, SAML SSO, admin data controls, and reload-credit discounts. Check whether the current 25-seat public limit fits; the older 50-member announcement is not a safe basis for a current purchase.

Enterprise or sensitive-code environment

Evaluate Enterprise when custom pools, advanced spend controls, self-hosted cloud agents, BYO LLM, governance, or procurement support are requirements. BYOK alone does not resolve privacy review: provider retention and data-handling terms still need to be assessed.

Why AI coding prices are being reworked

Agentic coding can involve more than generating a completion: an agent may gather context, plan, call tools, edit files, run commands, and verify results. The work—and the inference behind it—varies by task. A flat seat fee is easy for buyers to budget, but difficult for a vendor to sustain if some users consume far more than others. Credits and usage-based reloads align charges more closely with activity while making the bill less predictable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Vendors can combine several approaches: a subscription with an allowance, usage metering, top-up purchases, BYOK, or enterprise spend controls. These are not interchangeable from a buyer’s perspective. Subscriptions simplify access and budgeting up to a limit; metering can expose the cost of intensive use; BYOK gives provider choice but shifts billing and key management to the customer. No single model guarantees the lowest effective cost across workloads.

How Warp compares with other coding tools

Compare the workflow and who controls inference costs, not just the subscription headline. Competitor prices and limits change, so verify current terms directly before switching.

Option Workflow emphasis What to compare
Cursor AI-native code editor Whether editor-native navigation and generation fit better than a terminal-first environment; check current model limits and billing.
GitHub Copilot GitHub-supported IDE and repository workflows Team governance, seat terms, supported workflows, and model limits, particularly if your organization already standardizes on GitHub.
Claude Code Terminal-oriented agent tied to Anthropic models Provider billing and tool execution versus Warp’s broader terminal, collaboration, Drive, indexing, and cloud-agent features.
OpenAI Codex OpenAI coding-agent ecosystem Supported workflows and integration with tools already in use versus Warp’s terminal interface and multi-provider flexibility.
BYOK or open-source agents Provider choice and direct API billing Potentially less platform lock-in against more setup, key management, model selection, and support responsibility.

For a personal-finance decision, record the effective cost per useful workflow alongside the monthly bill. An apparently cheaper plan may not be cheaper if it requires repeated top-ups or a separate provider account; a higher fixed price may be worthwhile if it replaces other tools you would otherwise pay for.

Verdict: budget for usage, not just the plan name

Warp is most attractive if you value its terminal-native agent workflow, want its collaboration or cloud features, or can use BYOK while accepting provider billing and privacy responsibilities. It is less attractive if a firm, predictable monthly bill is your priority or you already have a coding agent that fits your workflow. Before renewing or switching, compare one month of measured use against the subscription, reloads, and any external API charges; then decide whether Free, Build, Max, Business, or an alternative matches both your work and your budget.
