Virgin Plus, Koodo and Fido each offered a 60GB 4G mobile plan at an effective price of $39 per month during Black Friday 2024. But the deals were not identical: Virgin’s price was tied to bringing your own phone, Koodo’s required a $5 monthly autopay discount, and Fido’s required a $10 autopay discount and was initially limited to new activations arranged by phone or in a store.
This is a historical account of promotions reported on November 21, 2024, with updates on November 22. The offers should not be assumed to remain available in 2026.

Not in the same sense. Virgin Plus presented the offer as a $39-per-month BYOP plan. Koodo’s standard price was $44 per month, with the effective price falling to $39 when the customer received a $5 monthly autopay discount. Fido’s standard price was reported as $49 per month, reduced to $39 with a $10 autopay discount.

That distinction matters when comparing bills. Koodo and Fido customers would need to keep meeting the autopay condition to retain the advertised effective price. The source does not establish whether either discount was permanent or promotional, so that would have required checking the applicable terms at signup.
These were primarily BYOP comparisons. A customer financing a phone should not assume the $39 headline price will remain unchanged. Device payments, plan-price changes and any activation charge would need to be added to the monthly total.
Virgin Plus: the simplest reported $39 structure
Virgin Plus offered 60GB of 4G data for $39 per month when customers brought their own phone. The reported features included unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting, international texting from Canada, call display and voicemail. The plan’s stated 4G speed cap was up to 150Mbps.
The calling benefit changed during the promotion. The initial version reportedly did not include Canada/U.S. calling. In an update on November 22, Virgin Plus restored Canada/U.S. calling. That makes the update material: readers relying on the original description could otherwise have mistaken the plan’s calling coverage.
Customers taking a device could pay more. The coverage described a $49 monthly price after a $5 monthly credit for customers taking a phone, but the BYOP price is the relevant figure for a device-free comparison.

Koodo: $39 after autopay, plus a choice of perk
Koodo’s plan included 60GB of 4G data, unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting, call display and voicemail. Customers could select one free perk, with reported examples including unlimited international texting or rollover data.
The price began at $44 per month. A $5 monthly autopay discount brought the effective cost to $39. Therefore, customers who did not want autopay should compare the plan at its undiscounted price rather than treating $39 as the standard monthly charge.

Koodo’s reported speed cap was up to 100Mbps—50Mbps below the caps reported for Virgin Plus and Fido. These are maximum or plan caps, not guarantees of everyday performance. Actual speeds depend on location, signal strength, congestion, device capability and network management.
Fido: the same headline price, with more signup friction
Fido’s reported offer was $49 per month less a $10 autopay discount, producing an effective monthly price of $39. It included 60GB of 4G data, with Fido’s 4G plans described as capped at up to 150Mbps.
The offer was initially limited to new activations and was not visible through Fido’s ordinary online plan flow. Customers initially had to call the displayed number or visit a store. That created a potential $70 connection fee, particularly for phone or in-store signups. On November 22, Fido made the $39/60GB offer available online.

The exact inclusions of the unlisted $39 plan were not fully clear in the original coverage. Fido’s normal plan benefits were expected to include features such as unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting, call display and voicemail, but those features should not be treated as definitively confirmed for this specific offer without the archived plan terms.
Which plan was the best fit?
- For the clearest reported price: Virgin Plus was the most straightforward comparison because its $39 figure was presented as a BYOP price rather than an autopay-adjusted price.
- For a useful included option: Koodo stood out for its choice of one free perk, including rollover data or unlimited international texting.
- For existing Fido customers or Fido-preferring shoppers: Fido could make sense if the customer qualified as a new activation, completed the signup online when available and confirmed the plan’s exact features and total fees.
- For customers avoiding autopay: Virgin Plus appeared less restrictive in the reported offer. Koodo and Fido’s $39 figures depended on autopay discounts.
- For someone financing a phone: None of the plans should be judged by the BYOP headline alone. Add the device payment and verify whether the plan price changes.
What to check before switching
- Confirm that the offer is still available and that your activation type qualifies. Fido’s reported promotion was for new activations, and the source does not confirm eligibility for existing customers, upgrades or migrations.
- Separate the base price from autopay savings. Koodo was $44 before its $5 discount; Fido was $49 before its $10 discount.
- Ask whether the discount continues if autopay is cancelled or payment details change.
- Calculate the first-year total, including plan charges, device financing, connection or activation fees, add-ons and taxes.
- Confirm calling, international texting, rollover data and voicemail features in the plan terms. Virgin’s Canada/U.S. calling inclusion changed during the promotion, while Fido’s exact feature list was initially unclear.
- Do not treat the 100Mbps or 150Mbps figure as a promised real-world speed.
How strong was the deal historically?
The 2024 offers lowered the commonly discussed price for 60GB from about $44 to $39, but they were not necessarily the most aggressive Black Friday prices seen in the market. The coverage cited the previous year’s roughly $34-for-50GB offer as a stronger historical benchmark.
That comparison does not make $39/60GB poor value in absolute terms. It shows why the monthly price, data allowance and promotional conditions all matter: a larger data bucket does not automatically mean a better deal if the price requires autopay, a new activation or a costly signup method.
Availability warning
These were Black Friday 2024 promotions reported on November 21 and updated on November 22, 2024. They are not verified as live plans in 2026. Anyone considering a current signup should check the latest terms directly with Virgin Plus, Koodo and Fido, including eligibility, autopay rules, activation fees, device pricing and whether the promotional price has expired.
