Verizon’s $20 credit for the January 14, 2026, wireless outage was real, but it was for affected eligible customers—not every Verizon customer—and it was an account credit, not cash. If you think you qualified, open the My Verizon app directly and check for an outage-credit prompt. Verizon announced the offer on January 15 and said customers could accept it in the app; the company has not published a clear public deadline in the information available here.
What Verizon announced
Verizon said the widespread wireless outage on January 14, 2026, was resolved at 10:15 p.m. Eastern time. The next day, it announced a $20 account credit for customers affected by the disruption. Verizon said it would notify customers by text when the credit was available and directed them to sign in to My Verizon to accept it. Small-business customers, the company said, would be contacted directly. Verizon’s announcement described the credit as a goodwill gesture, not full compensation for the service disruption.
The offer was not a check, cash payment, or deposit to a bank account. It was intended to reduce a Verizon account balance. Verizon did not publish a universal claim form or a detailed eligibility list in its announcement.
How to check for and claim the credit
- Open My Verizon yourself. Launch the app from your phone, or type Verizon’s address into your browser. Avoid using a text-message link if you are unsure it is genuine.
- Sign in to the account for your wireless service. If you also have Fios or home internet, make sure you are viewing the mobile account.
- Look for an outage-related notice. Check the account home screen, notifications, messages, and any “Take action” section.
- Review and accept the offer in the app if it appears. Verizon’s original instructions said customers could accept the credit through My Verizon.
- Check the account balance and bills. Look for a credit in account activity or on a subsequent statement. Do not assume it was rejected just because it did not show on the first bill you checked.
Later reporting said Verizon also allowed customers to ask about the credit through customer service by phone, chat, or online support. Engadget reported those additional routes. For account-specific help, use the support options in My Verizon or Verizon’s Network Outage Credit FAQs; the FAQ lists customer support, including 800-922-0204.

Can you still get it?
This was announced on January 15, 2026, not a new promotion. Verizon maintains a dedicated outage-credit FAQ, but the available public information does not establish a specific claim deadline or say that the offer remains open indefinitely. If you experienced the January outage and never received or accepted the credit, contact Verizon promptly and ask for an account-specific review rather than assuming you are too late—or that you are guaranteed to qualify.
Who was eligible?
Verizon’s stated audience was customers affected by the January 14 wireless outage. The public announcement did not define “affected” in detail, so a customer’s eligibility may require Verizon to check the account. Small-business customers were to be contacted directly.

The announcement does not clearly settle whether the offer applied per account or per line. It also does not specify whether prepaid customers, former customers, or customers with only Fios, 5G Home, or another non-wireless service qualified, whether there was a minimum outage duration, or whether service had to be active on a particular date. Do not assume the $20 was available for each line or for an unrelated home-internet interruption; ask Verizon to check your specific account.

If the credit is missing
- Check the mobile account in My Verizon, including notifications, messages, account activity, and any “Take action” prompt.
- Update the app, then sign out and back in. Check the next one or two bills as well as the current account balance.
- Contact Verizon through the app’s chat or an official customer-service channel. Explain that you are asking about the January 14, 2026, wireless outage credit, rather than a standard billing dispute.
- Ask the representative to confirm whether your account was marked as affected, whether the offer was already redeemed, whether a credit is scheduled for a later bill, and whether your account or service type needs further review.
- Keep the case number, contact date, any representative details provided, and screenshots of Verizon notices or account activity.
Not receiving a text does not by itself prove you were ineligible. Verizon described texts as a notification method; check the app directly and ask support if the offer is absent. Verizon Community moderators have also directed customers who could not find the credit to official support for account-specific help, but community posts do not establish that every customer qualifies. How to avoid a fake credit message
- Open My Verizon manually instead of tapping a link in an unexpected text.
- Do not reply with your password, Social Security number, payment-card details, or one-time verification code.
- A routine account credit should not require a processing fee, shipping charge, gift card, or bank information. Treat demands for payment as a warning sign.
- If you do inspect a link, verify that it leads to a Verizon-controlled domain—but remember that a sender name or number can be spoofed. Checking inside your logged-in account is safer.
Some contemporary reporting described legitimate Verizon messages using a vzw.com link that redirected to Verizon, and other coverage discussed the expected sender. Those clues are not proof that a particular message is authentic. See WCVB’s reporting and PCWorld’s safety guidance; the safest step remains opening My Verizon yourself.
This is different from Verizon’s ordinary outage-credit rules
The January offer was a special response to a mass wireless outage. It should not be confused with standard service-interruption provisions in Verizon’s customer agreement, which describe different conditions for certain postpaid customers, including an interruption lasting more than 24 consecutive hours in a coverage area where Verizon is at fault. Fios TV has separate outage-credit rules as well. Neither set of ordinary rules defines who qualified for the January $20 wireless offer.
