Veracode appointed Anthony Barkley as chief strategy officer and Diana Bushard as general counsel on September 10, 2025, adding commercial-strategy and governance expertise as the application-security company broadens its application-risk-management proposition. The appointments were reported by ChannelPro/ITPro on September 15, 2025.

What Veracode announced

Barkley and Bushard joined Veracode’s executive team in separate roles. The company presented the appointments as support for its “next growth chapter,” a description that signals strategic intent rather than a disclosed revenue target, financing event, acquisition or planned initial public offering.

Veracode’s announcement archive records the September 10, 2025 announcement, while the ChannelPro/ITPro report published five days later supplied the initial role and background details.

Barkley’s brief: connect strategy with customer outcomes

As chief strategy officer, Barkley is responsible for cross-functional strategic initiatives, customer engagement, retention strategy, go-to-market execution and the scaling of strategic programs. Veracode’s current executive biography describes the role as partnering with leadership to operationalize priorities and reinforce the company’s product vision.

That remit matters because Veracode is selling a broader proposition than an individual code scanner. The company is positioning its platform around application risk across the development lifecycle and software supply chain. A strategy officer can help turn that product breadth into clearer adoption, expansion and retention programs, although the available sources do not establish Barkley’s exact reporting lines or ownership of sales, marketing or customer success.

Barkley brings application-security and enterprise-technology experience. Veracode and ChannelPro/ITPro identify earlier work connected with @stake, Symantec, Pivotal, VMware and Devo, where he most recently served as chief revenue officer. His background includes large technology integrations and global go-to-market programs.

Bushard’s brief: make expansion scalable and governable

Bushard became Veracode’s general counsel. The announcement highlights experience in corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions and risk strategy. Veracode’s current biography describes more than 25 years of multidisciplinary legal and business leadership across technology and financial-services organizations, including regulatory-compliance, human-resources and business-development work.

For an application-security vendor, a general counsel is involved in more than contract review. Enterprise customers increasingly scrutinize software-supply-chain controls, privacy, data handling, artificial-intelligence governance, security commitments, product disclosures and international compliance. A stronger legal and risk function can help align those requirements with commercial priorities, support complex partnerships and transactions, and give procurement and risk committees clearer answers.

Her background includes M&A and commercial transactions, but the announcement does not say that an acquisition is pending or that M&A is a formal operating mandate. Any such conclusion would go beyond the evidence.

Why the two appointments fit together

The hires reinforce two sides of a scaling software business:

  • Commercial execution: Barkley’s remit is intended to improve engagement, retention, go-to-market consistency and strategic execution.
  • Governance and risk: Bushard’s remit can support enterprise contracting, regulatory readiness, corporate governance and international growth.

Together, those functions could help Veracode coordinate product strategy with customer and business outcomes while reducing friction around large, regulated or cross-border deals. They are plausible strategic benefits, not announced results.

Part of a wider 2025 executive build-out

The appointments did not occur in isolation. Veracode says Simon Adell joined as chief financial officer in June 2025, overseeing financial operations, strategic planning, reporting and growth initiatives. The sequence—CFO in June, followed by a chief strategy officer and general counsel in September—supports a cautious reading of broader executive reinforcement across finance, commercial strategy and governance.

Veracode has also been expanding its market narrative from traditional application-security testing toward application-risk management. Its company materials describe capabilities including static and dynamic analysis, software-composition analysis, container security, application-security posture management, malicious-package detection, penetration testing and AI-related security work. The ASPM positioning discussion explains how the company frames that broader approach.

Those product and messaging changes provide context for the appointments, but they should not be presented as outcomes caused by the hires. Veracode’s newsroom also lists 2025 announcements concerning AI-powered dynamic analysis, external attack-surface management and a Wiz Integration Network relationship; these are company announcements, not independent proof of market leadership or financial performance.

What the announcement does—and does not—tell investors and partners

For investors, competitors and channel executives, the appointments suggest that Veracode is trying to convert a wider technical platform into repeatable enterprise growth while strengthening the controls needed to support it. They may also improve the company’s ability to sell application-risk outcomes to boards, procurement teams and risk committees.

There is no disclosed revenue, profitability, valuation, customer-growth or retention target tied to the appointments. The announcement does not confirm a restructuring, a change to Veracode’s partner program, new channel incentives, a sale, an acquisition, a funding round or an IPO. It also provides no cited customer, MSP, MSSP, analyst, investor or competitor reaction.

Channel partners should therefore treat changes to distribution, managed-service relationships and incentives as open questions. The available material establishes Barkley’s customer and go-to-market remit, not a specific MSP or reseller strategy.

Current status

As of August 18, 2026, Veracode’s leadership page still lists Barkley as chief strategy officer and Bushard as general counsel. Brian Roche is listed as CEO, and Adell remains CFO. That continued listing makes the appointments useful as a current reference rather than only a 2025 news item.

Veracode’s corporate site reports 700 global employees, more than 2,400 customers, over 315 trillion lines of code scanned and more than 113 million flaws fixed. These are self-reported company figures, not independently audited measures, and should be read accordingly.

Practical takeaway for buyers

The leadership changes do not alter the basic buying question: whether Veracode’s coverage, integrations, services and commercial model fit an organization’s development and risk program. Veracode directs prospects to its product overview and contact-sales and demo routes; reviewed official pages do not publish standard list pricing. Enterprise quotes are likely to vary with application count, modules, users, environments, services, geography and contract term.

Organizations comparing platforms should evaluate Veracode alongside options such as Checkmarx, Snyk, Mend and GitLab’s application-security offering against their existing developer workflows and governance needs. The leadership announcement alone is not evidence that Veracode is cheaper, faster or superior.

The Bottom Line

Veracode’s September 2025 appointments added strategic-commercial leadership through Anthony Barkley and governance expertise through Diana Bushard. The move points to an effort to scale a broader application-risk-management business, but it does not substantiate a specific financial milestone or imminent transaction.
