What the 2025 Udemy sale actually offered
The matching deal article from January 2, 2025 described broad discounts that were scheduled to end January 10, 2025. However, its highlighted examples were not all below $10: a Microsoft Excel course was listed at $15, while an AI-powered copywriting course was listed at $13.
That means “under $10” should not be read as “every technology course costs less than $10.” It was a promotional price range or starting point for selected courses, not a universal catalog price.

What “under $10” means on Udemy
Under Udemy’s Deals Program documentation, promotional prices in the United States can go as low as $9.99, or the local equivalent in other markets. Several qualifications matter:
- Only eligible or participating courses may receive the promotion.
- Prices can differ by country, currency, course topic, length, sales performance, market conditions, and other factors.
- The price shown on the website may differ from the price in the mobile app.
- Taxes or other checkout amounts may affect the final total where applicable.
- A promotional price can expire or change before payment is completed.
- Newly published paid courses may be excluded from certain promotions during their first 14 days in some countries, including the United States.
Udemy’s marketplace has displayed individual courses at $9.99, but that confirms only that such a price can appear—not that a particular New Year sale is active or that all courses qualify.

How to choose a discounted course without wasting money
- Check the update date. AI tools, cloud consoles, security software, and web frameworks can become outdated quickly.
- Inspect the curriculum. Look for projects, coding exercises, assignments, labs, downloadable files, or practice tests—not just a long video runtime.
- Read recent reviews. Look at review volume and current comments, not only the overall star rating.
- Confirm prerequisites. A course may require programming knowledge, mathematics, a cloud account, paid software, or previous certification study.
- Assess the instructor. Review the instructor’s background, teaching history, and recent course announcements.
- Match the course to your goal. A focused 10-hour course may be more useful than a poorly structured 40-hour course.
- Separate completion from certification. A Udemy certificate of completion is not an official AWS, Cisco, CompTIA, Microsoft, or Google certification.
How to buy at the advertised price
- Open Udemy’s marketplace and search for a specific skill, such as Python, AWS, cybersecurity, or SQL.
- Filter or sort by rating, review count, level, and duration.
- Open the complete course page and verify its current price, sale or coupon expiration, update date, instructor, curriculum, and included resources.
- Compare the price on Udemy.com with the mobile app. Udemy says pricing and coupon behavior can differ between them; see its purchasing guidance.
- Review the final checkout total. Do not calculate your savings solely from the crossed-out list price.
- Confirm that you are buying an individual course rather than starting a subscription.
- Save a screenshot of the price and promotion terms in case the amount changes immediately afterward.
Eligible sale coupons may be applied automatically, according to Udemy’s coupon FAQ. If the discount does not appear, check the course page and checkout before paying.
Individual course or Personal Plan?
An individual course purchase is usually the clearer choice when you want one specific course and do not want a recurring payment. Udemy’s support material says separately purchased courses can provide ongoing access while your account remains in good standing and Udemy continues to have the necessary license.

Udemy Personal Plan is different: it is a subscription providing access to thousands of courses across hundreds of topics, not necessarily the entire individual-course marketplace. It may make financial sense if you expect to complete several included courses during the subscription period. It is a poorer fit if you want permanent access to one course, need courses outside its catalog, or want to avoid recurring billing.

Refunds and price changes
Eligible course purchases can generally be refunded within 30 days, subject to Udemy’s restrictions. Read the refund policy before buying. Approved refunds typically take five to ten business days to post, depending on the financial institution and location, according to Udemy’s refund information.

Payment method matters. Purchases made through Apple or Google in-app billing generally must be handled through the applicable app store. Purchases made through a third-party promotion or reseller generally require a refund request to that seller rather than directly to Udemy.
If you bought the same course within the previous 30 days and later see it at a lower price, Udemy’s learner-support material indicates that you may request consideration for a partial refund. This is a support option, not an automatic price-match guarantee. Use the learner support form and keep your purchase details.
When a cheap Udemy course is not the right purchase
Skip the deal if you need an accredited degree, live mentoring, formal assessment, a cohort schedule, or guaranteed preparation for an official certification exam. A low price reduces the financial risk of exploring a topic, but it does not guarantee accurate instruction, current material, practical competence, or a job outcome.
