Amazon’s $849.99 M4 MacBook Air deal was real, but it was a limited promotion observed in January and February 2026—not a price that should be treated as live today without checking Amazon. The offer applied to the 13-inch model with an M4 chip, 16GB of unified memory, 256GB SSD storage, and the base eight-core GPU configuration. That was $150 below Apple’s original U.S. starting price of $999.
What the $849.99 deal included
AppleInsider reported the price on January 29, 2026, and again during an Amazon month-end promotion on February 23. The January report identified a Midnight model; the February report identified a Silver model. That matters because the discount may have depended on color and inventory rather than applying to every configuration simultaneously.

Is $849.99 a good price?
Yes. A $150 reduction from $999 is roughly 15% off and takes a 16GB M4 MacBook Air below $900. The 16GB starting memory is especially useful compared with older entry-level laptops that shipped with 8GB.

It is more accurate to call this a strong reported price than the lowest price ever. The available deal reports establish the $849.99 promotion, but they do not prove an all-time price record.
Because the M4 MacBook Air is a 2025 model and newer-generation MacBook Air references appeared in Apple’s later 2026 materials, shoppers should compare any live M4 price with the current MacBook Air lineup before buying. The historical $849.99 price alone does not establish that an M4 is the best value on September 14, 2026.
What you get from the 13-inch M4 Air
Apple’s technical specifications list a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display with a 2560×1664 resolution, 224 pixels per inch, 500 nits of brightness, True Tone, and wide color support. The laptop also includes a 12MP Center Stage camera, MagSafe 3 charging, two Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The M4 model supports up to two external displays in addition to its built-in screen. Apple rates battery life at up to 18 hours of video streaming or up to 15 hours of wireless web use. Those are Apple’s testing figures, not a guarantee of runtime in every workload.
The base eight-core-GPU model comes with a 30W USB-C power adapter and a USB-C-to-MagSafe 3 cable. Higher-GPU configurations may include a 35W dual-port compact adapter, so confirm the included charger on the specific listing.

The 256GB storage trade-off
For many students, home users, and office workers, 256GB is workable. It is generally sufficient for browsing, documents, schoolwork, streaming, light coding, and cloud-based photo storage—particularly if large files are kept on an external drive or in the cloud.
It becomes restrictive if you store large photo libraries, video projects, games, virtual machines, or several demanding creative applications locally. MacBook Air storage cannot be upgraded after purchase, so the decision should be made before checkout.

That upgrade is worth considering if you expect to keep the laptop for four or more years, work offline frequently, or do not want to manage external storage.

Which model should you choose?
Buy the 13-inch base model if:
- You want the lowest-cost route to an M4 MacBook Air.
- Your work is mostly browsing, writing, studying, office apps, or light coding.
- You are comfortable using cloud storage or an external SSD.
- You value portability more than screen size.
Pay more for 512GB if:
- You keep photos, videos, games, or creative projects on the laptop.
- You regularly work without an internet connection.
- You plan to keep the Mac for several years.
- You do not want to rely on external storage.
Choose the 15-inch model if:
You need more room for split-screen work, spreadsheets, timelines, or large documents. The 15-inch Air has a 15.3-inch display and a larger battery, but the 13-inch version is easier to carry and costs less.

Amazon versus Apple refurbished
Apple’s Certified Refurbished store also listed a 13-inch M4 MacBook Air at $849. That is a separate offer: it is refurbished rather than a new Amazon unit. Apple’s listing included a one-year limited warranty, 14-day returns, and AppleCare eligibility when available. Inventory is limited, and the exact color and configuration may differ.

Buying checklist
- Confirm that the listing explicitly says M4, not M3, M2, or MacBook Pro.
- Confirm 16GB memory and the intended storage capacity.
- Check whether the unit is new, renewed, used, or refurbished.
- Review the seller, return policy, warranty information, and delivery date.
- Verify the final price in the cart or at checkout.
- Check the color, since the reported $849.99 offers were tied to different colors on different dates.
- Do not assume the base model has the 10-core GPU; the reported base configuration used an eight-core GPU.
Taxes and delivery charges depend on your location and checkout session. If you choose the 256GB model, an external SSD can provide less expensive supplemental storage. A USB-C hub or dock may also help if you need HDMI, USB-A, SD-card, or Ethernet connections.
Bottom line
The $849.99 M4 MacBook Air was a genuine and attractive Amazon promotion in early 2026: a 13-inch, 16GB/256GB model with an eight-core GPU, discounted $150 from its $999 launch price. Its main weakness is the non-upgradable 256GB SSD. Treat the deal as historical unless Amazon currently shows the same price, configuration, condition, and seller at checkout.
