The deal was real, but it was a March 2025 promotion—not a price to assume is available now. Engadget reported that Amazon’s Big Spring Sale cut the base 2024 M4 Mac mini with 16GB of unified memory and a 256GB SSD from Apple’s $599 starting price to $499. Amazon prices change, and the article’s price does not establish today’s offer. Engadget’s March 27, 2025 report and Apple’s launch announcement provide the historical price context.
What the 2025 deal included
The $499 price applied to the base M4 Mac mini: 16GB of unified memory and 256GB of SSD storage. That was $100, or about 16.7%, below Apple’s $599 starting price for that configuration. The Mac mini had launched in October 2024, with availability beginning November 8. The comparison is to Apple’s starting price, not proof of the price Amazon charged immediately before the sale.
Engadget’s report was published March 27, 2025, during Amazon’s Big Spring Sale. A later Yahoo rendering of the story showed a $599 Amazon price, illustrating how a retailer price module can change after an article is published. Neither old page establishes the live price today. Yahoo’s rendering provides that later-price example.

Other configurations reported at a discount
Engadget reported $100 reductions on several configurations. The M4 Pro price appeared in archived or syndicated coverage, so it should be treated as an attributed historical claim rather than independently confirmed pricing.

The first three configurations and sale prices were stated in Engadget’s report. The M4 Pro figure is from archived syndicated coverage. These are historical figures, not current quotes or a guarantee that every configuration was discounted.
What you get—and what the price leaves out
Base-model hardware
Apple lists the base 2024 M4 model with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16GB unified memory and 256GB SSD. Its compact enclosure is about five by five inches. The technical specifications include front USB-C ports, rear Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet and a headphone jack, plus Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. A desktop, not a complete setup
The Mac mini does not include a monitor, keyboard or mouse. Add those costs—and any adapters or hub needed for your existing accessories—before comparing the price with an all-in-one computer or laptop. The base model’s 256GB SSD is also a real constraint for large photo, video, game or development libraries.
Which configuration makes sense?
Choose 16GB/256GB for everyday use and a lean setup
The base configuration can suit office work, study, browsing, development and light-to-moderate creative tasks, especially if you already own a display and input devices. Its key compromise is storage, not the historical sale price. Users with modest local files can add external storage, but that means another device and cable, and it may be less convenient for apps or libraries that need constant fast access.
Pay for more storage or memory when your work requires it
The reported 16GB/512GB option may be a better fit if you want more internal space without immediately relying on an external drive. The 24GB/512GB M4 configuration is the more sensible tier to consider for heavier multitasking, development environments, virtual machines or larger creative workloads. Memory and internal storage are not ordinary user-upgradeable components, so choose for the work you expect to do rather than assuming you can expand them later.

Consider M4 Pro for sustained professional workloads
The M4 Pro is a different performance tier, not simply a storage upgrade. It is worth considering when your workload can use additional CPU or GPU capacity, higher memory ceilings or faster connectivity; otherwise, the reported $1,299 historical price was a substantial step up from the base deal.

- Students, office users and developers who value macOS and Apple silicon.
- Creators doing light-to-moderate photo, audio or video work, provided the memory and storage configuration fits their projects.
- Buyers seeking a compact machine; Apple’s launch announcement describes a roughly five-by-five-inch design.
It was less compelling for someone who needed a ready-to-use all-in-one, substantial internal storage, upgradeable RAM, broad modern AAA Windows gaming compatibility or multiple legacy USB-A connections without a hub. How to check a similar Amazon listing
An old deal link is not evidence that the same price, seller or condition remains available. Before ordering, verify the selected configuration and the final terms on the live listing:
- Confirm the product is Mac mini (2024) and has the Apple M4 chip, not an older M2 model.
- Check memory and storage separately. The historical $499 deal was for 16GB and 256GB.
- Check whether the unit is new, refurbished or used, and identify the seller rather than relying only on the Amazon storefront.
- Review the return window and warranty information for that seller and item condition.
- Make sure the displayed price applies to the configuration selected, not just a headline option.
- Check delivery timing and availability for your location, plus tax, shipping and any promotion restrictions at checkout.
- Reassess the total setup cost if you also need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, hub or external storage.
The historical deal coverage referenced Amazon listing B0DLBTPDCS. Treat it as a changing product destination, not as confirmation of a current offer. The reported discount was on Amazon; it does not mean Apple sold the computer for $499.
How strong was the $100 saving?
At the time, $499 was a meaningful reduction for a recently launched Mac: it put the base configuration about 16.7% below Apple’s $599 starting price. That supports calling it a worthwhile historical discount, but not a verified all-time low. Claims that it was a record price depend on a price history and period that the cited coverage does not establish. Engadget’s review assigned the M4 Mac mini a score of 90; that is the publication’s assessment, not an independent test in this article. Engadget’s coverage.
