The $699.99 Amazon price was real, but it is not a currently verified offer. Deal reports documented a new 13-inch M2 MacBook Air with 8GB of unified memory and a 256GB SSD at that price after shoppers clipped an Amazon coupon. The deal returned in March 2025, then AppleInsider reported the Amazon offer had sold out. The available research does not establish that the coupon is live now, so treat $699.99 as a historical deal—not a price you can count on today.
The price applied to the entry-level, previous-generation configuration, not every M2 Air. Its low upfront cost may suit students and light-use buyers, but the fixed 8GB memory and 256GB storage are important trade-offs when comparing it with a newer or refurbished Mac.
What the $699.99 deal actually was
MacRumors reported the price on October 23, 2024, describing it as a new all-time low for the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air with 8GB memory and 256GB storage. It reported the offer again on October 31. AppleInsider covered another return on March 20, 2025; the following day, it said the Amazon deal had sold out. Those reports establish that the promotion existed, not that it remains available.

The headline price required an on-page Amazon coupon. It was tied to a particular configuration and could be limited by color, stock, account eligibility, or promotion terms. MacRumors also reported a 512GB version at $949.99 during the October 2024 promotion; that was a different configuration and not the $699.99 offer. As of the available August 2026 shopping research, no live Amazon $699.99 coupon had been independently verified. Amazon inventory and prices can change quickly, so check the current listing and order summary directly before making a purchase.
How the Amazon coupon worked
- Open the Amazon listing for the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air and select the exact configuration.
- Check the memory, storage, color, condition, and seller. The historical $699.99 price was for the 8GB/256GB model.
- If the promotion is still offered, look on the product page for a coupon checkbox or an “Apply coupon” control. Sign in and clip it; the discount may not apply automatically.
- Review the cart or checkout order summary. The reduced price may not appear on the product page, and a coupon can disappear or fail to apply.
- Before paying, confirm the final price, seller, shipping terms, return window, and condition. The checkout total—not a headline, crossed-out price, or search result—is the amount to rely on.
Historical deal coverage noted that shoppers might need to reach checkout to see the coupon price, and Slickdeals said signing in was generally necessary to clip coupons. Promotions may be limited to one use or to selected customers. If the coupon is missing, the promotion may have expired, the selected option may not qualify, or the offer may have sold out. Do not assume it will be credited later.
What you get for $699.99
The discounted configuration was the redesigned 13-inch MacBook Air introduced in 2022. Apple’s technical specifications list the following core features:

Apple announced the redesigned Air in June 2022, adding the larger display, 1080p camera and MagSafe charging. Battery-life figures are Apple estimates under specified test conditions, not a promise of the same runtime for every person’s workload.

Is 8GB of memory enough?
It depends on what you do and how long you expect to keep the laptop. For browsing, email, documents, schoolwork, video calls, streaming, light photo editing and basic coding, 8GB can be adequate. It is a more constrained choice for heavy browser-tab use, large photo projects, professional video work, virtual machines, containers or large development projects.
Memory in this Mac is built in and cannot be upgraded after purchase. That makes the decision permanent: if your workload grows, you cannot add RAM later. Apple’s newer MacBook Air lineup moved to 16GB of base memory, a difference deal coverage also called out. If you expect demanding multitasking or want more headroom over a longer ownership period, compare the total cost of a 16GB model before choosing the bargain configuration.
The same fixed-capacity issue applies to the 256GB SSD. That can work if you mostly use cloud storage and keep a modest number of apps and files locally. Photos, games, downloaded media and creative or development tools can consume it quickly. External storage can help with files, but it does not turn the internal drive into a larger one and may add cost or inconvenience.

At a genuinely verified $699.99 for a new unit, the M2 Air could be a strong low-cost way into macOS for a student, household or light productivity user who accepts 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage. It combines a lightweight, silent design with a sharp display, a good video-call camera, MagSafe charging and a capable chip for everyday work.

It is not an automatic buy just because the headline price looks low. Before deciding, compare it with a newer MacBook Air that has 16GB of memory. MacRumors reported an M3 Air at $849.99 during the October 2024 promotion; that is a historical comparison, not a current price quote, but it illustrates why the gap matters. If a newer 16GB model is only modestly more expensive when you shop, the added memory and newer generation may be better value for your needs.
- Consider the M2 deal if it is new, the coupon is confirmed in checkout, your work is mostly everyday productivity, and the price is meaningfully below comparable 16GB options.
- Look for a 16GB model instead if you multitask heavily, work with large creative files, run virtual machines or want more memory headroom for a longer ownership period.
- Choose more storage if you keep a substantial photo, video, game or project library on the laptop and do not want to manage external drives or cloud storage.
- Skip the listing if the seller or condition is unclear, the coupon does not appear in the order summary, or a refurbished price is being presented as though it were a new-unit deal.
Where refurbished alternatives fit
Refurbished M2 Airs are not equivalent to the historical new Amazon deal. The available research found examples around or below $700 at other retailers, including a Woot listing shown at $645.99 that was marked sold out in the indexed result, and Best Buy search results with refurbished 8GB/256GB units around $674.99–$699.99. These are dated inventory signals, not guaranteed current offers. Check stock, exact specifications, seller, cosmetic condition, battery expectations, return policy and warranty terms on the actual listing.
Buyers who prefer a first-party purchase can check Apple Certified Refurbished Mac inventory. Availability and configuration vary, and the research did not establish a dependable current price for a specific M2 configuration. A first-party refurbished option may cost more than third-party stock, so compare the actual terms and total price rather than assuming every refurbished laptop has the same protections.
For third-party listings, verify the “Sold by” and “Ships from” fields separately, read the return terms, and do not infer that a product is new from its model name or search snippet. Check warranty eligibility as well. A low price can be less attractive if the condition, support or return options do not meet your needs.

Compatibility and practical limitations
The M2 MacBook Air is compatible with Apple Intelligence, but access to particular features depends on supported software, language and region. Check Apple’s current documentation for the features available where you live. Apple’s specifications page identifies Apple Intelligence support, and its macOS Tahoe 26 compatibility list includes the 2022 M2 MacBook Air. Compatibility does not mean every feature is available in every location or language.
The Air has two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports in addition to MagSafe and the headphone jack, so a person who connects multiple peripherals may need a hub or dock. Its fanless design keeps it silent, but sustained demanding work can reduce performance compared with a MacBook Pro with active cooling. The M2 Air also has more limited external-display support than some newer Macs; check Apple’s specifications for the exact display arrangement you need before buying.
Amazon checkout checklist
- Confirm it is the 13-inch M2 model—not a different size, chip or generation.
- Verify 8GB or 16GB memory and 256GB or 512GB storage; do not rely on the listing title alone.
- Check the selected color and whether that option qualifies for the coupon.
- Confirm condition is new, refurbished, renewed or used as intended.
- Review the seller, fulfillment source, return window and warranty language.
- Make sure the coupon discount appears in the cart or checkout summary.
- Check the final price after discount and applicable tax, plus delivery date and shipping terms.
Amazon offers can vary by account, seller, color and stock, and the coupon may be removed without notice. A refurbished or open-box listing around the same price is a different proposition from a new MacBook Air discounted by a coupon. Make the comparison using the exact machine and purchase terms you would actually receive.
