The $1,049 price was for a standard 15-inch MacBook Air with an M4 chip, 16GB of unified memory and a 256GB SSD—not a 512GB model or the newer M5 generation. The reported saving was $150 against a $1,199 comparison price: $1,199 minus $1,049. That works out to about 12.5%, rounded to 13% in the report. It describes the comparison at the time, not a current discount against today’s Apple pricing.

What the 15-inch M4 Air offers
Apple’s specifications list a 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display with 2,880 × 1,864 resolution, 224 pixels per inch, 500 nits of brightness, P3 wide color and True Tone. The M4 configuration has a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU. It also includes a 12MP Center Stage camera, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and support for up to two external displays. Connections include MagSafe 3 charging, two Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. If you charge through USB-C instead of MagSafe, one of those two ports is occupied; a hub or dock may be useful for HDMI, Ethernet, SD cards or additional peripherals. The standard configuration includes a 35W dual-port USB-C adapter.
Apple rates the battery for up to 18 hours of video streaming or up to 15 hours of wireless web use. Those are Apple laboratory estimates under specified test conditions using preproduction systems, not a promise of everyday runtime. Actual battery life depends on workload, settings and other factors. The Air’s fanless design is quiet, but it does not provide the active cooling of a MacBook Pro for prolonged demanding workloads.
Is $1,049 a good price in August 2026?
It is a reasonable price for a new 15-inch M4 Air from a reputable seller if you specifically want the larger screen and the current M5 model costs meaningfully more. Compare the actual M5 price and configuration before deciding; a small gap can make the newer generation the better long-term purchase. Stay with 16GB/256GB if your files are mostly online
The base model suits everyday browsing, office work, study and moderate creative tasks when applications and local files fit comfortably in 256GB. That capacity can become restrictive once you add large photo libraries, video projects, games or development tools. If you expect to keep substantial files on the laptop, price the 512GB configuration against using an external SSD or cloud storage; remember that external storage occupies a port unless you use a dock.
Compare the M5 if the price gap is small
The M5 Air is the current-generation alternative in the reporting available for this article. Favor it if you want the newest platform, expect to keep the computer for many years, or find an M5 configuration with more useful memory or storage at a similar price. The available deal reporting establishes the generation change, but does not provide a like-for-like current price or benchmark comparison, so compare live configurations rather than assuming a specific performance advantage.
Consider a 13-inch Air if portability or price matters more
