Yes, the TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G launched in Canada—but the $325 CAD figure is not a guaranteed current cash price. TCL announced Canadian availability through wireless carriers beginning May 1, 2025, at a stated starting price of $325 CAD. The phone’s main selling point is its matte, glare-reduced NXTPAPER display. Current pricing depends on the seller, condition, storage configuration, carrier terms, taxes and promotions.
What the $325 Canadian price actually means
TCL’s May 1, 2025 North American availability announcement described the TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G as available in Canada from $325 CAD through wireless carriers. That is a carrier-channel launch price, not proof that every retailer currently sells a new, unlocked phone for exactly $325.
Earlier, on January 6, 2025, TCL announced the phone at CES and said Canadian availability would begin in May 2025, with pricing starting “from $199.” TCL also noted that prices could vary by country and sales channel. The two figures should therefore be treated as different launch-stage or channel-specific price references—not automatically as evidence that one announcement was incorrect.

By September 2026, the Canadian launch is no longer new. TCL Canada still lists the model in its mobile lineup, and Bell has a product page for it, but the available evidence does not establish current stock or pricing at every Canadian carrier.

TCL’s January announcement cited the earlier $199 starting price, while the May Canadian availability release cited $325 CAD through wireless carriers.
What Canadian buyers should check before paying
Do not compare a carrier’s monthly device payment with a retailer’s outright price. Before ordering, check:
- Whether the advertised amount is the full device price or only a financed balance.
- Whether a specific wireless plan, activation or connection fee is required.
- The total of all financing payments, not just the monthly figure.
- Taxes, shipping, cancellation and return conditions.
- Whether the phone is unlocked and compatible with your carrier.
- Whether the unit is new, refurbished, restored or open-box.
- Warranty coverage and the seller responsible for fulfilling it.
A Walmart Canada listing found during research showed a restored/open-box 128GB model at $225.99 CAD, with a displayed former price of $325.99. That is useful evidence that open-box inventory can sell below the launch figure, but it is not evidence that a new, factory-sealed phone currently costs $225.99—or that every $325 listing is new.

Similarly, Canada Computers identified a Canadian T705J listing with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, but the referenced listing was open-box. See the Walmart Canada listing and Canada Computers listing for the condition and configuration details attached to those prices.

Canadian model and specifications
Canadian documentation identifies the phone as model T705J. Canadian retailer information points to a 6GB RAM/128GB storage configuration. Do not assume that every specification shown on a US product page applies to the Canadian model: TCL’s US page identifies model T705M1 and lists different 8GB configurations.
The US-listed specifications provide a useful reference for the product family, but should be treated as variant-dependent:

Why NXTPAPER is the phone’s main differentiator
NXTPAPER is TCL’s display technology and branding. It is not an E Ink panel or a monochrome e-reader. The phone remains a conventional colour smartphone with a matte-style viewing surface.
TCL describes the display as reducing glare and visible fingerprints, filtering blue light and offering a paper-like viewing experience. A dedicated NXTPAPER Key can switch between reading-oriented modes. TCL’s US page also claims 61% more blue-light filtering; that is a TCL claim, not an independent medical finding.
The finish may appeal to people who read on their phones, commute under bright lighting or dislike glossy screens. The trade-off is that a matte surface can make colours look less vivid and may affect perceived contrast, sharpness or brightness depending on the environment. It also does not provide E Ink’s distinctive low-power, paper-like reading behaviour.
The safest expectation is that NXTPAPER may reduce reflections and feel more comfortable for some readers. It should not be presented as preventing eye damage, curing eye strain or providing medically validated eye protection.

It can be reasonable at $325 if the phone is new, includes meaningful warranty coverage, is compatible with your carrier and does not require an expensive plan. The value is much weaker if $325 is attached to a carrier contract, a financed balance, an unclear warranty or an older open-box unit.

The phone makes the most sense when the display matters more than maximum performance. The Dimensity 6100+ platform should be appropriate for messaging, browsing, streaming, navigation, social media and ordinary multitasking. It is not a flagship processor, and there is no reliable evidence here to promise high-end gaming performance.
The 5,010mAh battery is encouraging for a budget 5G phone, but actual endurance depends on brightness, refresh rate, 5G reception, gaming, streaming and background apps. Likewise, camera megapixel counts do not establish low-light quality, dynamic range, stabilization or video performance.
There is also no definitive Canadian software-support schedule in the available sources. Android 15 is documented, but buyers should not assume a specific number of future Android upgrades or security-support years.

Who should buy it?
A good fit for
- Readers who dislike glossy, reflective phone screens.
- Students, commuters and other users who read frequently on a phone.
- Buyers wanting a large-screen 5G Android phone for everyday tasks.
- People willing to prioritize display comfort over gaming, cameras or long-term software support.
- Shoppers who find a clean, properly warranted open-box model at a substantial discount.
A poor fit for
- Heavy gamers seeking sustained high performance.
- Buyers choosing primarily for camera quality.
- Anyone requiring a clearly defined long-term update policy.
- People who need guaranteed compatibility with a particular Canadian carrier.
- Anyone assuming NXTPAPER is equivalent to an E Ink reader.
- Buyers comparing the phone with newer devices at the same price without checking processor, camera and support differences.
Carrier compatibility is not automatic
Because the Canadian launch was described as carrier-based, verify compatibility for the exact model and seller. Check supported LTE and 5G bands, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, physical SIM or eSIM support, carrier-lock status and prepaid compatibility.
A Bell product page or a listing at a particular store does not prove nationwide availability. Stock and eligibility can vary by province, carrier, store and online channel. Better alternatives for different priorities
Before buying, compare the TCL with the options that match your actual priority:
- Newer TCL NXTPAPER phone: potentially newer hardware and a longer remaining support window, but Canadian price and specifications must be checked.
- Conventional budget Android phone: may offer more predictable carrier support, warranty service or performance, even without the matte display.
- Refurbished Google Pixel or Samsung: may provide stronger cameras and software support, but battery condition and remaining support life can be uncertain.
- Dedicated e-reader or NXTPAPER tablet: better for long-form reading, PDFs or documents, but not a substitute for a phone with calling and 5G.
