T-Mobile’s Netflix on Us benefit does not make every Netflix plan free. For eligible U.S. plans, T-Mobile currently covers Netflix Standard with ads. If you choose Standard without ads or Premium, you pay an upgrade charge through your T-Mobile bill. An increase can also reflect Netflix’s 2026 price change, a separate subscription, or prorated billing—not necessarily a change to your wireless plan.
What T-Mobile covers—and what you pay extra for
T-Mobile says eligible plans include Netflix Standard with ads, valued at up to $8.99 per month. Choose a higher tier and T-Mobile applies the benefit, then bills you for the upgrade. Eligibility varies by T-Mobile plan and, for some plans, the number of lines; not every customer qualifies. Check T-Mobile’s current Netflix on Us terms for your plan.

These are rough comparisons using prices listed in Netflix’s U.S. plan information, not guaranteed T-Mobile charges. T-Mobile separately advertises Premium at a discounted $20 upgrade rate for some customers. Your account may show a different amount because of T-Mobile pricing, plan eligibility, taxes, a promotion, or partial-cycle billing. Use the Netflix line item on your T-Mobile bill as the amount actually charged.
Why the bill may have gone up
- You or someone in the household upgraded. A move from Standard with ads to Standard or Premium adds a charge. Netflix says a plan change by the account holder or someone in the household can raise the bill. Check the plan tied to the Netflix email address, rather than assuming you made the change.
- Netflix prices changed. T-Mobile says updated Netflix prices began appearing on affected accounts with May 2026 bill cycles. If you already had an upgrade, its charge may have changed even if nobody selected a new tier. The included benefit continued for eligible plans. See T-Mobile’s Netflix on Us support page.
- There is a separate Netflix subscription or add-on. An additional subscription on another line or account may be billed as a paid service, not merely as an upgrade to the included benefit. A household can have one included Netflix account and another paid account.
- Billing is transferring from Netflix to T-Mobile. Existing Netflix customers may take one or two Netflix billing cycles to move to T-Mobile billing. During the transition, charges can appear on different bills. Confirm which payment provider is active before disputing a charge.
- A mid-cycle change created a partial charge or credit. Adding Netflix or changing the arrangement partway through a billing period can result in prorated amounts. Compare the detailed bill, not just the total due.
- A promotional price ended. A temporary offer may expire and leave the regular plan charge. Netflix outlines this and other reasons for higher charges in its billing help.
- An extra member is being charged. This is separate from the main plan price. Extra-member availability depends on the plan and billing package; Netflix says extra members cannot be added to ad-supported plans and may be unavailable through some third-party-billed packages. Check Netflix’s extra-member guidance.
A larger T-Mobile total does not, by itself, mean T-Mobile raised your wireless-plan price. Look for the Netflix item and any separate plan-price line on the detailed bill.

Audit the charge before changing anything
- Sign in to My T-Mobile or the T-Life app and open the account’s benefits, services, or add-ons. Find Netflix and note the selected tier and displayed upgrade price. Menu names may change.
- Open the detailed T-Mobile bill and locate the Netflix charge or upgrade line. Check the date, any partial-period amount, and whether there is more than one Netflix item.
- In Netflix, open the account or membership section. Confirm the active plan, linked email address, and whether T-Mobile is shown as the payment provider. Check for extra members and other Netflix accounts in the household.
- Compare the account’s Netflix tier and linked T-Mobile line with the charge. If the account shows Standard with ads but the bill shows an upgrade, or if the wrong email or line is linked, contact T-Mobile to check the benefit redemption and billing setup.
T-Mobile’s support page explains that the customer pays the difference for an upgrade; Netflix says package plan changes take effect immediately, while the provider determines the amount on the next bill. Allow for a partial-cycle charge or billing-transfer timing before concluding that a charge is incorrect.
How to return to the included tier
If your T-Mobile plan is eligible and you want to stop paying for the upgrade, use Netflix’s account page or the Netflix controls provided through T-Mobile. Select Change plan, choose Standard with ads if it is offered for your package, and confirm. Then check the next T-Mobile bill to verify that the upgrade charge has ended. Netflix says package customers may need to wait 12 hours after a plan change before changing again; available options depend on the provider package. See Netflix’s package plan-change instructions.

If the ad-supported tier is not offered, check that you are signed in to the Netflix account linked to the eligible T-Mobile line and that you are the primary T-Mobile account holder or an authorized user. Ask T-Mobile to confirm the plan’s eligibility, the line attached to Netflix, and the available tier. Avoid canceling the Netflix account as a first step: removing Netflix from T-Mobile stops T-Mobile as the payment method, and you may need to add another payment method to keep service. - Standard with ads: It is the tier covered by the current benefit on eligible plans. It includes ads, and some titles may be unavailable because of licensing restrictions. Netflix says some older devices do not support the ad experience, and casting or mirroring from a mobile device to a TV is not available on this tier. See Netflix’s guidance on titles unavailable with ads and device and casting limitations.
- Standard: Ad-free viewing, up to 1080p, and simultaneous viewing on two supported devices. Extra-member options, where available, depend on Netflix eligibility and T-Mobile’s package rules.
- Premium: Ad-free viewing, up to four supported devices at once, 4K Ultra HD and HDR, and downloads on up to six supported devices. Netflix lists up to two extra-member slots where eligible, but availability through a T-Mobile-billed package is not guaranteed.
Netflix lists these plan features and prices in its plan comparison. The Basic plan has been discontinued.

Is paying for the upgrade worth it?
Keep Standard if avoiding ads matters and 1080p on two devices meets your household’s needs. Premium may make sense if you regularly use four simultaneous streams, have a compatible 4K/HDR setup, or need its larger download allowance. If you mainly want Netflix without an added monthly charge and can accept ads, Standard with ads is the practical choice—provided your T-Mobile plan remains eligible. Extra-member needs alone do not guarantee that the feature is available with a T-Mobile package.
