Yes, a real proposed class action exists. Oddo et al. v. T-Mobile USA Inc. alleges that T-Mobile raised prices or moved customers from certain legacy plans despite representations that prices would not increase for life or while customers remained on qualifying plans. But the case is not a verified settlement, no price-case claims form or payout has been established, and the lawsuit is separate from T-Mobile’s 2021 data-breach settlement.

The latest procedural information in the supplied court records shows T-Mobile seeking to force individual arbitration. Whether a customer has a potential claim depends on the exact plan, enrollment date, promotional language, billing history, later plan changes and arbitration terms.

What is the T-Mobile lifetime price guarantee lawsuit?

The case is Oddo et al. v. T-Mobile USA Inc., a proposed class action against T-Mobile USA Inc. The complaint was filed on July 12, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey under case number 2:24-cv-07719. It was later transferred to the Western District of Washington, where it is docketed as 2:25-cv-01651.

According to the complaint, plaintiffs say they enrolled in legacy wireless plans after relying on promises that their recurring prices would not increase for life or for as long as they stayed on the qualifying plan. The complaint alleges that T-Mobile later discontinued, altered or repriced certain plans and notified affected customers of higher charges in 2024.

Those are allegations—not findings that T-Mobile violated the law. The complaint reportedly asserts theories including consumer fraud, deceptive trade practices, common-law fraud, negligent misrepresentation, false advertising and breach-related claims.

Because this is a proposed class action, the filing itself does not mean a court has certified a class. It also does not automatically include every T-Mobile customer who was ever told about a price lock or lifetime price.

Which plans does the complaint identify?

However, a plan name alone does not establish eligibility. Important details may include the account’s activation date, the exact rate-plan or SOC/feature code, whether lines were added later, whether the customer changed plans, which discounts applied and what advertising or terms were presented at enrollment.

Case status: what the available docket shows

Do not confuse this lawsuit with the official T-Mobile data-breach settlement website. That settlement concerns the 2021 data breach, not alleged increases to legacy wireless-plan prices. It is not a claims portal for the lifetime-price or Price Lock lawsuit.

Likewise, an attorney’s online “investigation” or sign-up page does not prove that a court has approved the case or that a person has joined the proposed class. Do not pay a fee or provide sensitive information based solely on an unofficial claim advertisement.

What allegedly happened to the lifetime price promises?

The plaintiffs’ theory is that T-Mobile’s marketing and account representations led customers to believe their prices were fixed for life or for the duration of their enrollment in a qualifying plan. The complaint alleges that some customers later received notices of price increases or changes to legacy plans in 2024.

That dispute is narrower than saying every T-Mobile customer received an unlawful increase. A customer’s experience may involve a protected base rate, but it may also involve taxes, fees, discounts, equipment, add-ons, newly added lines or a plan change that the promotion treated differently.

The legal question is not simply whether a customer remembers the word “lifetime.” It may involve whether the statement was sufficiently definite, what written terms accompanied it, what the customer reasonably understood, whether the promise became part of the agreement, what state law applies and whether the challenged charge was within the promise’s scope.

What T-Mobile’s current price-protection programs cover

T-Mobile’s current Price Lock FAQ describes several generations of price-protection programs. They are not interchangeable:

Program General timeframe or description Important limitation
5-Year Price Guarantee Available for qualifying newer Experience plans and certain prepaid, business, home-internet and fiber plans. Generally applies to specified recurring service charges for five years, not necessarily every part of the bill.
Last Month Price Lock For certain accounts activated or switched from January 18, 2024, through April 22, 2025. If T-Mobile changes the price and the customer leaves, T-Mobile says it will cover the final month’s recurring service charges when notified within 60 days.
Original Price Lock For certain qualifying accounts activated from April 28, 2022, through January 17, 2024. Eligibility and remedy depend on the specific account and promotion terms.
Un-contract Promise For qualifying accounts activated before April 28, 2022. T-Mobile describes a final-month-payment remedy if it raises prices and the customer leaves, subject to the program’s rules.

The FAQ says exclusions may include taxes and fees, per-use charges, add-ons, third-party services, discounts, equipment changes and network-management practices. Switching plans generally causes a customer to lose the promotion attached to the old plan.

Does a price guarantee protect the entire bill?

Usually, a customer must separate the protected recurring plan charge from other billing components. A higher total bill does not necessarily prove that the protected base price increased.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Bill item Why it matters
Base recurring plan charge Often the most relevant amount in a price-guarantee dispute.
Taxes and government fees Often excluded and may rise independently.
Device installments Separate from the wireless service rate.
Insurance, add-ons and third-party services Usually governed by separate terms.
Discounts or autopay credits A discount can expire or change even if the underlying rate is unchanged.
New or removed lines Can change the total without proving a base-rate increase.
Plan name and SOC/feature code May help identify whether the account remained on the qualifying plan.

Compare bills line by line rather than comparing only the total. Save a bill from before the change and one from afterward, and identify the effective date of each difference.

Why arbitration could change the case

T-Mobile’s terms and conditions generally provide for individual binding arbitration or small-claims procedures and include class-action waivers, subject to the particular terms and any valid opt-out.

T-Mobile’s motion to compel arbitration is not a ruling that its price practices were lawful. It asks the court to require covered customers to pursue disputes individually rather than through a federal class action.

If arbitration is ordered for a particular customer, that may change:

  • Where the dispute is heard;
  • Whether it proceeds as a class action or individually;
  • Which contract terms govern;
  • Whether a prior arbitration opt-out is effective; and
  • What procedural steps and remedies are available.

Arbitration does not automatically mean a customer has no possible claim. Enforceability is fact-specific. The applicable contract version, the date it was accepted, continued use of service after revised terms and any arbitration opt-out may all matter.

Could 2026 legacy-plan retirements be part of this lawsuit?

Separate 2026 reporting describes notices to some long-time customers that older plans were being retired and that customers would move to newer plans with different prices or features. T-Mobile reportedly characterized the changes as retirement of plans created for earlier network eras and said affected customers would transition to modern plans with a five-year guarantee. See the Tom’s Guide report for that coverage.

Those reports are related context, not proof that every affected customer is part of Oddo. A customer should check:

  • Whether the notice actually concerns the same legacy plan named in the complaint;
  • Whether the original promise was described as a lifetime guarantee, Price Lock or Un-contract Promise;
  • Whether the account’s terms permitted the change;
  • Whether the amended complaint addresses the later event; and
  • Whether a court ultimately defines a class that includes the customer’s circumstances.

Do not assume that a 2026 retirement notice automatically creates membership in the proposed class or guarantees compensation.

How to determine whether your facts resemble the allegations

Ask these questions:

  1. When was the account or particular line activated?
  2. What was the exact plan name and rate-plan or SOC code?
  3. What did the original advertisement, sales representative, account page or written terms actually say?
  4. Did the promise concern the base recurring rate or the entire bill?
  5. Did you later change plans, add lines or alter features?
  6. Did autopay, military, senior, employer or other discounts change?
  7. When did the increase take effect, and what line item increased?
  8. Did you receive a retirement, migration or price-change notice?
  9. Which contract and arbitration terms applied, and did you opt out?
  10. Did you cancel after the increase, or remain a customer?

A “yes” to several questions may make your records worth preserving, but it is not a legal determination or guarantee of recovery.

What affected customers should do now

1. Preserve the evidence

  • Save original sign-up emails, web pages, brochures and sales-chat transcripts.
  • Record the account activation date and exact plan details.
  • Download bills from before and after the increase.
  • Save T-Mobile texts, emails and letters about a price change or plan retirement.
  • Take account screenshots showing the plan and recurring charge.
  • Keep call and chat dates, representative names and confirmation numbers.
  • Save any arbitration opt-out notice or prior written dispute.
  • If you canceled, preserve the cancellation date and final bill.
  • Keep documentation for discounts and benefits.
  • Record your state of residence, since state-law rules may differ.

2. Audit the bill

Create a comparison with columns for the old amount, new amount and effective date. Separate the base recurring plan charge from taxes, fees, equipment, add-ons, discounts and line changes. This can reveal whether the disputed increase is actually within the applicable price-protection language.

3. Ask T-Mobile for specifics

T-Mobile’s FAQ directs customers to call 611 from a T-Mobile phone or 1-800-937-8997. Ask for a written explanation of:

  • The exact rate plan and activation date;
  • The price-protection program attached to the account;
  • The effective date and reason for the increase;
  • Whether the change affects the base rate, taxes, fees, discounts, add-ons or equipment; and
  • Any available cancellation, opt-out or final-month remedy.

Keep the response and confirmation number. Do not rely only on a verbal explanation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Consider escalation carefully

A complaint to the FCC, a state attorney general or a state consumer-protection agency may create a record and prompt a response. It is not the same as joining a class action and does not guarantee a refund. Consumers considering individual arbitration or litigation should review the governing terms and obtain advice from a qualified attorney.

What not to assume

  • A plan name alone proves eligibility.
  • Every T-Mobile price increase breached a promise.
  • “Lifetime” necessarily means every component of the bill can never change.
  • A proposed class has already been certified.
  • The lawsuit has settled or will produce checks.
  • An online attorney investigation means you joined the lawsuit.
  • Arbitration automatically eliminates every possible claim.
  • A 2026 plan retirement is automatically covered by the 2024 lawsuit.
  • Canceling service is harmless. Cancellation may affect eligibility, remedies or a final-month-payment benefit.
