Best verified U.S. long-term offer checked August 16, 2026: Surfshark Starter was listed at $67.23 upfront for 27 months, or an effective $2.49 per month. Surfshark One was $75.33 for 27 months, or $2.79 per month. The “up to 87% off” claim appears to apply to certain partner or student promotions—not every shopper or plan—so verify the final checkout price, bonus months, taxes, and renewal terms before paying.

The first three prices came from a Surfshark pricing-page snapshot using a 27-month promotion. A separate official pricing variant showed 28 months and different totals. Check the official Surfshark pricing page and treat the checkout screen—not a headline percentage—as the controlling price.
What “up to 87% off” means
“Up to 87% off” is a maximum promotional claim, not a guaranteed discount for every customer. The figure was associated with an August 2026 partner promotion reported by WIRED and with a Student Beans student offer. It may combine a long-term-plan discount, free bonus months, and a student discount.

Discount percentages can be calculated against a standard monthly price, an undiscounted plan price, or the nominal value of a longer bundle. They do not necessarily mean that 87% is removed from the amount shown at checkout, and the claim does not establish that every Surfshark tier receives the same reduction.
Use the effective cost instead. For example:
$67.23 ÷ 27 months = $2.49 per monthThe $67.23 is generally charged upfront; it is not a series of 27 monthly payments of $2.49.
Which Surfshark plan should you choose?
Starter: lowest VPN-only price
Starter is the sensible default if you mainly want a VPN and do not need bundled antivirus or data-removal services. Surfshark describes Starter as including its VPN along with Alternative ID, Alert, and Search.
One: best broader-value bundle
One adds Antivirus to the Starter features. It can make financial sense if you would otherwise pay separately for antivirus and the small price increase is justified by features you will actually use. The August snapshot placed One at $75.33 for 27 months.
One+: choose it for data removal
One+ includes the One bundle and Incogni-related personal-data-removal functionality. Its higher price is for a broader privacy bundle, not evidence that its VPN connection is inherently better. Choose it when data-removal service is a real requirement or would otherwise be purchased separately.
Surfshark’s current lineup and available one-, 12-, and 24-month terms are described in its plan-options support article. An optional Alternative Number feature may also be available, but add-ons can have separate terms and refund treatment.
Do you need a Surfshark coupon code?
Not necessarily. Current offers can work in three ways:
- Automatic promotion: the discounted price and extra months are already reflected on Surfshark’s pricing page.
- Partner link: a publisher or eligibility partner activates a special offer when you click through its deal page.
- Manual coupon: you enter a code in the checkout coupon field.
No universal, reusable public code was verified for the U.S. offer covered here. Do not rely on a code merely because it appears on a coupon aggregator or social-media post.
How to apply and verify a code
- Open Surfshark’s official plans and pricing page.
- Select the plan and subscription term.
- Review the number of paid and bonus months and the upfront total.
- If Surfshark or an eligible partner supplies a code, enter it in the checkout coupon field and select the apply option. Surfshark’s instructions are available in its coupon-code support guide.
- Confirm that the total visibly changes or that the advertised bonus is present.
- Check taxes or VAT, currency, payment method, renewal price, and add-ons before completing payment.
If a code is rejected or produces no change, it may be expired, restricted to another country, plan, term, or account type, or incompatible with an automatic promotion.
Surfshark student discount
Students can begin through Surfshark’s student discount page and complete verification with Student Beans. The offer captured in August 2026 showed 15% off after verification, while partner copy referenced savings of up to 87% on Surfshark One.

That does not mean every student receives exactly 87% off. Confirm your eligibility, country, plan, stacking rules, bonus months, and final checkout total. Do not assume graduate-student eligibility without checking the current Student Beans terms.

Seven-day free trial
Surfshark’s support documentation says eligible new customers can receive a seven-day VPN trial when purchasing a qualifying 12- or 24-month plan through the Surfshark website with PayPal, Apple Pay, or a credit card. A payment method is required. The trial is limited to up to three devices, after which the subscription becomes available on an unlimited-device basis.
Set a reminder to cancel before the trial ends or disable auto-renewal if you do not want the subscription to continue and charge.
30-day money-back guarantee
Surfshark says eligible initial purchases made directly or through qualifying billing partners may qualify for a full refund within 30 days. The guarantee is generally for the first purchase and does not automatically cover recurring renewal payments. Alternative Number, anonymous Dedicated IP, app-store purchases, and other add-ons or reseller transactions may have exclusions or separate procedures. See the refund policy and terms of service.
For an eligible direct purchase, contact Surfshark through live chat, state that the request is within 30 days of the initial purchase, and provide the requested account or payment details. If you bought through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, or another reseller, start with that platform’s refund process when required.

Promotional introductory pricing is not necessarily the renewal price. Surfshark subscriptions generally renew automatically, and Surfshark says recurring prices may change with advance notice.
For a direct Surfshark purchase, the cancellation path is:
- Sign in to your Surfshark account.
- Click your email address or profile control in the top-right corner.
- Select Subscription.
- Open Payments.
- Choose Cancel auto-renewal or Cancel renewal.
- Confirm the cancellation and retain the confirmation.
Disabling auto-renewal normally stops future charges but does not end current access immediately and does not itself refund unused time. For subscriptions purchased through an app store, cancellation controls can be different; use Apple or Google Play subscription management when applicable. Do not assume that a new-customer promotion applies to an existing subscription. Surfshark’s public pages do not establish a universal renewal rule for every promotion.

If you are already subscribed, sign in and check for an account-specific offer. You can also contact Surfshark support before renewal and ask whether a retention offer is available. Compare that price with any new eligible plan, but avoid creating duplicate accounts until you understand how the subscriptions, email addresses, and billing periods would interact.
Website purchase versus app-store purchase
Surfshark supports purchases through Apple’s App Store and Google Play, but app-store prices, cancellation controls, and refund procedures can differ. If price is your priority, compare the official website’s final total with the applicable app-store price. The cheapest advertised website equivalent may not be the amount charged through an app store.
When Surfshark is—and is not—the right deal
Surfshark is most compelling for shoppers who want a low effective long-term VPN price and value unlimited simultaneous-device use. Starter is the clearest fit for VPN-only buyers; One and One+ become more defensible when their antivirus or data-removal features replace services you would otherwise buy separately.
It is less suitable if you need only a short-term subscription, cannot comfortably pay a long-term plan upfront, or do not want to monitor automatic renewal. Monthly billing offers flexibility but is usually much more expensive. A dated Surfshark comparison from February 2, 2026 listed $15.45 per month for its monthly plan versus $2.49 per month for the lowest long-term promotional rate; treat that as historical context, not an August 2026 price guarantee.

Surfshark alternatives to compare
If Surfshark’s renewal terms, bundled features, or current checkout price do not suit you, compare the live offer and refund policy for:
A February 2026 Surfshark comparison listed historical lowest monthly equivalents of $2.99 for NordVPN, $2.44 for ExpressVPN, $2.03 for CyberGhost, $1.98 for Private Internet Access, $1.11 for PrivadoVPN, $2.99 for Proton VPN, and $5.93 for Mullvad. Those figures should not be treated as verified September 2026 prices. Mullvad’s straightforward monthly approach may appeal to readers who prefer less promotional pricing, while Proton VPN may suit users already in Proton’s ecosystem. Compare like for like: total upfront cost, service months, simultaneous-device limits, features, taxes, and renewal price.
