Spotify Premium price increases: UK and Australia rates, plus what subscribers pay now

Spotify’s 2025 Premium price increases are no longer “coming” in the UK and Australia: they have already taken effect. UK prices were reported to rise from October 2025, while Spotify’s Australian page currently lists Individual at A$15.99 a month. The amount and first higher-payment date depend on your country, plan and billing arrangement. Spotify also announced a separate increase for the US, Estonia and Latvia in January 2026.

UK Spotify Premium prices: reported October 2025 changes

MoneySavingExpert reported that UK subscribers on Individual, Duo and Family plans would pay more from their next billing date after October 22, 2025. Student, Basic and Free prices were reported as unchanged. The UK figures below are reported prices, rather than a complete price table published in Spotify’s newsroom; check your account and billing email for the amount attached to your subscription. “Basic” plans may not be offered to every subscriber. The availability of a plan or offer can vary by market and account, so do not assume you can switch to one simply because it appears in this table.

Australia: current listed monthly prices

Spotify’s Australian Premium page currently lists the following standard monthly prices. These are current listed prices, not a before-and-after comparison; the page does not establish the precise earlier price for each plan.

Confirm the price and plan terms on Spotify’s Australian Premium page. Audiobook access is included with some Premium offerings, but the entitlement depends on the plan and account role; check the specific plan details rather than assuming every member gets the same allowance.

What Spotify announced in other markets

On August 4, 2025, Spotify announced price changes for subscribers in multiple markets across Europe, South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. It said affected existing subscribers would be notified by email and directed new subscribers to their local Premium page. The announcement did not provide a definitive country-by-country list or prices for every plan. It is therefore not accurate to say every country in those regions was affected. A separate announcement on January 15, 2026, covered subscribers in the United States, Estonia and Latvia. Spotify said affected subscribers would receive an email over the following month; new subscribers were directed to local Premium pages for current rates. When will your bill change?

There is no single effective date for every subscriber. For the reported UK change, the new rate applied from a subscriber’s next billing date after October 22, 2025. More generally, Spotify says affected subscribers are notified by email and a grace period may apply; the first higher payment depends on the plan and billing date. In Australia, Spotify’s support guidance describes a one-month grace period for affected subscribers. Trial users may receive one month at the original price after the trial ends before the new price applies. These are not guarantees of one universal date for every country or account.

1. Sign in at Spotify’s account page and check your active plan and next billing date.
2. Look for a price-change email from Spotify and verify the date and amount stated there.
3. Compare that information with the local Premium page, keeping in mind that promotions and partner billing may produce a different charge from the standard listed price.
4. If Apple, a mobile carrier or another partner bills you, check that provider’s subscription settings and cancellation terms as well; the partner may control billing.

For Duo and Family, the plan manager is generally the person who controls the subscription and billing. If you are a member rather than the manager, ask them to check the account before making a decision.

Why does Spotify say it is changing prices?

Spotify’s explanation is that periodic price updates help it continue to innovate, deliver audio content and provide a personalized experience. At its May 2026 investor day, Spotify executives also discussed pricing as part of the company’s monetization strategy and referred to feature expansion and customer retention. That context does not prove that a particular increase was caused by artist royalties, licensing costs, inflation or audiobooks; Spotify’s public explanation is broader. Spotify introduced its Audiobooks+ add-on in several countries, including the UK and Australia, in July 2025, offering eligible Premium subscribers additional audiobook listening time. That may matter when assessing the value of a plan, but Spotify did not say audiobook access caused the price changes. See Spotify’s Audiobooks+ announcement.

How to lower the bill or stop the next charge

• Check the cost per active user. If fewer people use a Duo or Family subscription, compare its total cost with an eligible Individual plan. If several people use it, divide the monthly price by the active members before deciding that a single-user plan is cheaper.
• Check Student eligibility. Student pricing can be substantially lower, but eligibility rules apply and prices are market-specific. A Student price reported as unchanged in the UK does not mean the same price or rules apply elsewhere.
• Look for a Basic option in your account. Where available, a Basic tier may suit someone who does not use audiobook benefits. Availability and features vary; check the plan’s terms before switching.
• Use Spotify Free. Cancelling Premium does not generally erase the Spotify account, playlists or saved tracks. Free is ad-supported and removes Premium features. Spotify’s Australian support page says saved tracks, playlists and podcasts remain accessible through Free, subject to its restrictions.
• Cancel before the next billing date if you want to avoid another renewal. Check the cancellation confirmation and the billing provider’s terms. Premium offline downloads stop being available when the paid plan ends.

In Australia, Spotify says gift cards can still be redeemed but can be used only for Premium Individual. Check the Australian price-update support page for the applicable guidance. Promotions and trials are not the same as a standard recurring rate: verify when an offer ends and what price follows it.

Stay, switch plans or leave?

The best choice depends on what you use, not just the headline price. Staying may make sense if Spotify’s playlists, recommendations, integrations or bundled audio features are valuable to you, or if multiple household members make Duo or Family economical per person. A cheaper eligible plan may work better if you rarely use audiobook benefits or have fewer active users. Leaving is reasonable if you mainly want ad-free music, do not use Spotify-specific features and find another service’s local plan better suited to your budget.

Before switching, compare official plan pages for your country. Consider family and student eligibility, audio quality, offline listening, audiobook inclusion, device support and how much effort playlist migration would take. Prices should not be compared by converting currencies alone: local taxes, plan structures and market pricing differ. Do not rely on a VPN to obtain another country’s price; use the plan and payment options permitted for your account country.
