The Seattle climate-focused coworking space announced as “coming soon” in 2024 is now part of the Seattle Climate Innovation Hub, launched downtown on January 16, 2025. The hub is at 1215 4th Ave., Seattle, WA 98101. 9Zero provides its climate community and coworking component; University of Washington CoMotion Labs runs a separate startup incubator, and VertueLab supports climate entrepreneurs and funding connections.
What happened to the planned 9Zero Seattle space?
In July 2024, 9Zero described plans for a Seattle location, with an opening then projected as early as August. The Financial Center was under consideration. That was a proposal, not the final launch date or current name of the broader initiative. GeekWire’s 2024 report captured that early plan; the hub subsequently launched on January 16, 2025, as a partnership involving 9Zero, the City of Seattle’s Office of Economic Development, UW CoMotion Labs, and VertueLab.
So the short answer to “did it open?” is yes: 9Zero’s Seattle community and coworking operation became part of the Seattle Climate Innovation Hub. The hub is broader than a coworking office, combining workspace and events with startup incubation and ecosystem support. The City called it the first downtown Seattle space dedicated to investing in and designing technology to address climate change; that is the City’s characterization of the initiative.

Where is the hub, and what can people do there?
Current official materials list the address as 1215 4th Ave., Seattle, WA 98101, in the downtown Financial Center, in UW-owned space. The location under consideration in the 2024 announcement became the operating site. The City’s December 2025 account identifies the address.

9Zero describes membership benefits such as events and programming, a member directory, digital community tools, sector-specific clusters, and networking. Workspace access depends on the membership level; workspace options include desks, phone booths, conference rooms, and private offices. The hub’s stated climate scope spans fields such as energy, transportation, electric-vehicle charging, agriculture, construction, grid management, and efficiency—not just software startups.
Who might find membership worthwhile?
The intended community includes climate-tech founders, investors, scientists and researchers, operators, policymakers, service providers, and professionals working on climate solutions. The original Seattle concept also made room for people who want to contribute to climate work but are unsure how to start or whether their background qualifies. A member need not assume that only Ph.D. researchers or venture-backed founders belong there.
From a personal-finance perspective, the central question is whether the community and programming justify the cost over ordinary coworking. A climate-specific network may be valuable if you will attend events, seek introductions, or collaborate with people in related sectors. If you only need a low-cost desk and quiet internet access, a general coworking option may be a better value. The hub is not presented as a substitute for specialized laboratory, fabrication, or industrial-scale prototyping facilities.

What does 9Zero membership cost in Seattle?
9Zero’s current public materials do not provide a verified Seattle-specific price table. Its site says most people start with Club Membership, while 24/7 workspace memberships and private offices are available by contacting the organization. Ask for Seattle rates, what access is included, and any additional charges before budgeting or committing.
The public prices currently shown on 9Zero’s San Francisco membership page are useful only as a separate-market reference, not as Seattle quotes:

9Zero says prospective members can attend up to three events before joining, subject to its stated process. Its membership information describes an initial information or application step followed by a visit and conversation to assess fit. Check current event availability and access terms directly; the three-event allowance does not mean workspace is automatically available to nonmembers.

That trial can help you evaluate whether the events and connections suit your goals before taking on a recurring membership expense. For a useful comparison, consider how often you would attend and whether the relevant workspace access is included in the membership you are offered.
How is CoMotion’s incubator different from coworking?
CoMotion Labs’ Climate Tech Incubator is a separate program, not a coworking tier automatically included with 9Zero membership. Current CoMotion materials describe a six-month, cohort-based program for pre-seed to seed-stage companies ready to pilot or scale a product. It focuses on commercialization and startup development, including mentorship, professional networks, and help with selling, piloting, or manufacturing products. The program page also describes access to the 9Zero community and office space.
The original January 2025 launch announcement described an eight-month cohort; CoMotion’s current program page describes six months, so six months is the relevant present-tense duration. Where do VertueLab and public funding fit?
VertueLab’s role is climate entrepreneurship and ecosystem support, including funding, technical assistance, and connections between innovators and capital. It is not simply another coworking membership. The City’s launch announcement said Seattle’s Office of Economic Development provided $200,000 in seed funding and the Washington Department of Commerce provided $85,000. Those public investments helped support the hub’s creation; they do not establish that memberships are free or guarantee subsidized access.

Why put the hub in Seattle?
The partners point to a regional mix of technology and engineering talent, aerospace and manufacturing capabilities, University of Washington research, existing clean-energy and climate-tech companies, ports and industrial infrastructure, and local and state climate policies. The downtown location also aligns with the City’s goal of supporting economic activity and revitalization.
The concept responds to a practical challenge: climate work can be technically complex and isolating. A physical community is intended to make collaboration and informal connections easier. In the City’s December 2025 account, one first-time founder said the hub brought visibility, investor exposure, and access to startup and small-business resources. That is one participant’s experience, not a promised result for every member. The City’s 2025 year-in-review reported that the hub hosted its first cohort of six companies working in areas including biomaterials, digital energy, and aerospace.
How to choose an entry point
- Choose 9Zero membership if your main need is climate-specific community, events, networking, or flexible coworking. Confirm Seattle pricing and included access first.
- Explore CoMotion if you run an early-stage climate-tech startup seeking structured commercialization support and meet the program’s criteria.
- Look to VertueLab and related ecosystem programs if funding connections or technical assistance are your priority rather than desk space.
- Attend an event first if you are unsure whether the community fits; ask 9Zero about its current pre-membership event process.
Membership or program participation can provide access to people and resources, but it does not guarantee funding, customers, investment, employment, or measurable climate impact.
