The Galaxy Z Fold6 could reach a reported $599 effective price in July 2024, but Samsung did not simply slash $1,420 from the phone for everyone. The headline referred to a short-lived preorder stack involving a qualifying trade-in, promotional credits, a storage upgrade and, for the lowest reported price, a reservation made before Samsung Unpacked.
That promotion ran from July 10 through July 23, 2024, and is not verified as a current August 2026 offer. Droid Life reported the $599 and $699 figures on July 22, while Samsung’s official launch announcement confirmed the underlying preorder incentives.

Where the “$1,420 off” figure came from
Droid Life described a maximum effective saving based on a claimed $2,019 device value and a reported lowest effective price of $599:

That is promotional arithmetic, not proof of a universal $1,420 checkout discount. Samsung’s official U.S. starting price for the Fold6 was $1,899.99, so the $2,019 reference used by Droid Life should not be silently treated as the phone’s standard starting MSRP. The available terms do not provide a complete customer-by-customer checkout breakdown showing how every buyer could reproduce $599.

The most accurate description is: Droid Life calculated a maximum effective saving of $1,420 for a narrow group of preorder customers.
What Samsung officially offered
Samsung’s U.S. launch terms established the following:
- The Galaxy Z Fold6 started at $1,899.99.
- Preorders ran from July 10 through July 23, 2024.
- General availability began on July 24, 2024.
- Eligible buyers could receive up to $1,200 in trade-in value.
- Samsung offered higher storage at the price of the next-lower storage tier during the preorder period.
- Qualifying carrier-version preorders purchased from Samsung.com could receive the first year of Samsung Care+ at no charge, while supplies lasted.
The Fold6 was listed in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB configurations. Samsung also specified that promotions were subject to terms, limitations and available inventory. See the detailed Samsung announcement for the launch specifications and conditions.

According to Droid Life, eligible preorder shoppers who had not made the earlier reservation could reach a reported $699. Customers who had reserved before Unpacked could reach the reported $599 tier.
That distinction matters. The $599 figure was not the ordinary preorder price, and it was not available simply because someone visited Samsung.com during the preorder window. The reservation-related reduction and other instant credits were part of the promotional calculation, but the published report does not itemize every dollar sufficiently to guarantee the same result for every customer.
How the historical deal worked
A buyer pursuing the 2024 offer generally needed to complete a chain of conditions:
- Reserve before Unpacked if seeking the reported $599 level.
- Place the preorder between July 10 and July 23, 2024.
- Choose an eligible Fold6 configuration and confirm that the storage promotion appeared.
- Submit an eligible trade-in device in the condition Samsung required.
- Check the model and channel requirements. The Care+ offer, for example, was tied to a qualifying carrier version purchased from Samsung.com.
- Review the final checkout total rather than relying on the promotional banner.
- Read the return and inspection terms before sending in the old phone.
This is a reconstruction of the expired 2024 process, not a current purchase guide.

Samsung advertised up to $1,200 in trade-in value. “Up to” is the critical wording: the maximum was dependent on the model, condition and other eligibility details of the phone being surrendered.
A trade-in credit is not cash back. The old phone must meet Samsung’s requirements, and an inspection can reduce the expected credit or result in a charge if the device was damaged, locked, financed or inaccurately described. The buyer also gives up the option of selling that phone independently.
For a fair comparison, calculate both figures:
- Samsung route: the Fold6 price minus the confirmed trade-in credit, plus any applicable credits and fees.
- Private-sale route: the Fold6 price minus the realistic net sale proceeds after marketplace fees, shipping, risk and inconvenience.
The $1,200 maximum should never be assumed to be the value of an ordinary or damaged phone.

The storage upgrade increased value, but not necessarily cash savings
Samsung’s preorder promotion allowed a buyer to obtain a 512GB Fold6 for the price of the next-lower storage model, or a 1TB version for the price of the next-lower tier. That can be valuable if the buyer would have paid for the larger capacity anyway.

It should not automatically be counted as a cash discount. A free storage upgrade changes the configuration received; it does not necessarily lower the checkout price. Samsung’s terms also stated that the storage discount could be lost if the qualifying order was canceled or returned.
Was Samsung Care+ included?
For a qualifying carrier-version Fold6 preorder bought from Samsung.com during the July 10–23 window, Samsung offered the first year of Samsung Care+ at no charge, while supplies lasted. Coverage remained subject to deductibles, exclusions, limitations and service fees, and the customer was responsible for costs after the first year.
Droid Life valued that benefit at $156, but that is an attributed promotional valuation, not a guaranteed cash-equivalent saving. It is worth less to a buyer who would not otherwise purchase coverage or who already has suitable insurance.

These scenarios are not interchangeable. The first two depended on eligibility, timing and promotional stacking. The third cannot be filled in with the headline’s maximum saving.
Was it actually a good deal?
It was potentially excellent for someone who already wanted a Fold6 and owned a high-value eligible trade-in. That buyer could capture a large credit, receive more storage and possibly receive the first year of Care+.
It was less compelling for someone buying only because of the headline. A buyer without a valuable trade-in could face a much higher effective cost. Someone whose old phone was worth more on the private market might do better selling it independently. And anyone who does not need a foldable should compare the total cost and repair-risk trade-offs with a conventional flagship.
The Fold6’s appeal was its large inner display and multitasking format. Samsung listed a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, a 4,400mAh typical dual battery and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. Those features explain why the launch price was high, but they do not make every promotional combination financially sensible.
The important catches
- Trade-in revaluation: the final credit could change after Samsung inspected the submitted phone.
- Reservation restriction: the $599 figure was specifically reported for people who had reserved before Unpacked.
- Deadline: Samsung’s official promotion ended July 23, 2024, with general availability beginning July 24.
- Limited inventory: the terms applied while supplies lasted.
- Channel differences: Samsung.com, the Shop Samsung app, carriers, Amazon and Best Buy did not necessarily offer identical combinations of credits, trade-in values or storage terms.
- Carrier restrictions: the free first year of Care+ was not presented as a benefit for every unlocked purchase.
- Return consequences: canceling or returning the qualifying order could remove the storage discount.
- Storage-value inflation: extra storage is not the same as cash in the customer’s pocket.
- Model confusion: Fold6 terms should not be transferred to the Galaxy Z Flip6.
How to check a similar Samsung deal in the future
When Samsung advertises a dramatic foldable discount, verify the deal in this order:
- Identify the phone’s actual base price and storage tier.
- Check whether the headline price requires a reservation, preorder, carrier model or financing.
- Obtain the exact trade-in quote for the specific device and condition.
- Separate instant credits from the value of a free storage upgrade or insurance benefit.
- Confirm whether the deal is limited to Samsung.com, the Shop Samsung app or a particular carrier.
- Read what happens if the order is canceled, returned or the trade-in fails inspection.
- Use the final checkout total—not the advertised maximum saving—as the decision figure.
For a current inventory or promotion check, start with Samsung’s U.S. storefront. Do not assume it still honors the July 2024 terms.
