Galaxy S25 owners can use Samsung Wallet’s Tap to Transfer to send small payments by tapping their phone against another phone or a contactless debit card. It is a U.S.-only feature, not exclusive to the S25, and its low limits mean it is best for quick reimbursements—not as a full replacement for Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App.
What Samsung Wallet’s Tap to Transfer does
Samsung announced Tap to Transfer in May 2025. It lets an eligible Samsung Wallet user send money from a debit card through a proximity tap, rather than asking both people to use the same peer-to-peer payment app. Samsung says the money goes to the bank account associated with the recipient’s eligible debit card. It may arrive within minutes, but availability depends on the receiving financial institution. Samsung’s announcement describes the launch and transfer experience.
Depending on eligibility, you can tap to send to another Samsung Wallet user, a person using Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, or a physical contactless Visa or Mastercard debit card. A recipient using another phone wallet may need to open it and approve the transaction. This is not the same as a native integration between Samsung Wallet and Apple or Google’s payment services.

Does it work on the Galaxy S25?
Yes. Samsung lists the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra as compatible. Tap to Transfer is a Samsung Wallet capability for eligible devices running Android 12 or later, so the S25 supports it but is not required. Other eligible Galaxy phones may qualify too. Availability can still vary by country, device, firmware, carrier, bank, and card issuer. See Samsung’s Tap to Transfer page and its device compatibility information.
For the U.S. service, the sender needs an eligible Samsung Wallet phone, an eligible U.S. debit card, NFC enabled, and Samsung Wallet set as the default contactless-payment service. The phone must not be rooted. Samsung’s current support documentation identifies Mastercard debit as the practical sender-card requirement; its original announcement described eligible Visa or Mastercard debit cards more broadly. Not every card that works for ordinary Samsung Wallet purchases is eligible for Tap to Transfer, so check the card in the app rather than assuming.

Credit cards cannot be used to send money. Some prepaid, rewards, Samsung Pay Cash, Samsung Rewards, or Apple Cash cards may also be excluded, and an issuer can restrict or decline a transaction.

How to send money in person
- Open Samsung Wallet and select the eligible debit card.
- Tap Tap to transfer beneath the card.
- Enter the amount.
- Tap the back or middle of your phone against the recipient’s phone or contactless debit card.
- Allow the recipient to authenticate or approve the transfer if prompted.
- Review the transfer and confirm with your fingerprint or Samsung Wallet PIN. Wait for the confirmation check mark.
Check the recipient and amount carefully before confirming. Samsung says a transfer cannot be canceled after it is sent.

How to send money remotely
Remote transfers are for a recipient who uses Samsung Wallet and has registered an eligible debit card:
- Open Samsung Wallet and select the eligible debit card.
- Tap Online transfer.
- Choose the recipient from your contacts, then enter the amount.
- Tap Next, review the details, and tap Send.
Samsung’s launch announcement described finding another Samsung Wallet user by phone number; the current support flow describes selecting a recipient from contacts. Verify the contact information and destination before sending.

Limits and fees
Samsung lists the following limits. They can change without notice and apply at both the Samsung account and debit-card levels. Check Samsung’s current support details before relying on them.

Those caps suit splitting a lunch bill, paying someone back for tickets, or covering a small shared expense. They rule out rent, tuition, large purchases, business payments, and international remittances.

Check the fee before confirming. Samsung’s Tap to Transfer page promotes a fee-free offer for a limited time, but its FAQ also states that the sender may pay a 1.75% fee with a $0.25 minimum. Samsung’s launch announcement warned that fees and limits could apply, and financial institutions or carriers may impose additional charges. Because the published information is inconsistent and offers can change, do not assume a transfer is free: review the fee shown in Samsung Wallet on the final confirmation screen.

Usually not. Tap to Transfer’s appeal is convenience: it is built into Samsung Wallet, makes nearby transfers simple, and can work with certain other wallets or a physical contactless debit card. It may be handy when both people are together and the payment is small.
Its trade-offs are substantial for anyone who needs a general-purpose payment service: U.S.-only availability, low dollar and transaction limits, card and issuer restrictions, possible fees, and no cancellation after sending. Remote transfers require the recipient to use Samsung Wallet. The feature is not designed for recurring payments or larger transfers, and it cannot send internationally. Choose another method if you need higher limits, scheduled payments, broad recipient access, or a clearer cancellation or dispute process.
If Tap to Transfer is missing or fails
- No Tap to Transfer button: The card may not qualify, or your account, card, country, device, or software may not meet the requirements. Samsung says eligible cards show Tap to Transfer controls beneath the card in Quick Access or on its details page. Confirm that Samsung Wallet is the default contactless-payment service and check the card’s eligibility with its issuer.
- Transfer declined: Samsung lists incomplete or inaccurate account details, a mismatch with bank records, card restrictions, or a recipient issuer decline as possible causes. Verify the legal name, address, and ZIP code in your Samsung account; check that the card qualifies; and ask the recipient to contact their issuer if the receiving side declined it. - NFC tap does not work: Make sure NFC is enabled and Samsung Wallet is the default contactless app. Align the phones, check that the recipient’s wallet is open when required, and try removing a thick case that may interfere. For a physical card, confirm it supports contactless payments. Samsung provides default-payment setup steps and NFC troubleshooting.
- Funds have not appeared: Samsung says transfers may arrive within minutes, but the receiving institution controls availability. Do not treat the estimate as a guarantee of instant access.
- Trying to start one from a watch: Tap to Transfer must be initiated from a phone; it cannot be started from a Galaxy Watch.
Who should use it?
Tap to Transfer is worth considering if you already use Samsung Wallet, have an eligible U.S. debit card, and often reimburse people in person for small amounts. The feature is not a reason by itself to buy or upgrade to a Galaxy S25: eligible older Samsung phones may support it, and the service’s limits and U.S.-only scope make it a narrow convenience rather than a major payment upgrade.
