The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra was reportedly discounted by $200 at Amazon and Best Buy on April 23, 2024. The deal applied to the unlocked 256GB model, reducing its roughly $1,299.99 list price to about $1,100. Engadget described it as the lowest outright price it had seen at the time, excluding trade-in credits and carrier promotions.
This is a historical deal, not a currently verified promotion. Samsung’s US product page now marks the Galaxy S24 Ultra as sold out and directs shoppers toward newer Galaxy phones. Current Amazon and Best Buy pricing and inventory should be checked directly before buying.

Engadget reported the promotion at the time. A retailer’s exact display could have been $1,099.99 rather than a rounded $1,100, and prices could vary by color, inventory, seller, taxes, and fulfillment.

Only within a specific definition. Engadget called the price the lowest outright price it had seen for the unlocked 256GB Galaxy S24 Ultra as of April 23, 2024. That is not the same as an independently verified all-time low.

The comparison excluded several ways shoppers can reduce a phone’s effective cost, including:
- Trade-in credits
- Carrier subsidies and bill credits
- Samsung promotional credits
- Student or membership discounts
- Bundles and activation offers
Later sales may also have undercut $1,100 as newer Galaxy generations replaced the S24 Ultra. The historical claim should therefore be read as: the lowest outright price Engadget had observed at that point for that particular unlocked storage configuration.
Why the discount mattered
A $200 reduction was meaningful because the S24 Ultra launched as Samsung’s highest-end conventional smartphone, with a starting price near $1,300. Unlike many carrier promotions, the reported Amazon and Best Buy price did not depend on trading in another phone, opening a new wireless line, accepting a multiyear installment plan, or waiting for bill credits.

That made the deal especially relevant to shoppers who wanted an unlocked phone and the freedom to choose or change carriers. It also made the phone easier to budget for as a one-time purchase, although sales tax and accessories still increased the final cost.
What buyers got in the S24 Ultra
The S24 Ultra paired flagship hardware with features aimed at buyers who wanted more than basic Android functionality. According to Samsung’s official product information and the original coverage, its notable features included:
- A titanium frame and large, high-resolution OLED display
- Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor
- A built-in S Pen stylus
- A 200MP primary rear camera
- A 50MP 5x optical telephoto camera
- Additional ultrawide and telephoto cameras
- Galaxy AI features integrated into supported software experiences
- A large battery and long battery life, as noted in Engadget’s coverage
- Samsung’s announced seven-year software-support commitment for the S24 series
The camera setup represented a notable change from the S23 Ultra’s 10x telephoto approach. A 5x optical camera can be more useful for many everyday subjects, but it is not an unconditional upgrade for photographers who regularly shoot distant wildlife, sports, or other long-range scenes.

Galaxy AI features can vary according to region, language, Samsung account status, software version, and Samsung’s policies. Buyers should not assume every feature will work identically in every market or remain free indefinitely.
Who should consider an S24 Ultra at the right price?
The phone remains most compelling for a buyer who specifically values its combination of features:
- S Pen functionality: Useful for handwritten notes, markup, remote-control functions, and precise editing.
- A large display: Well suited to reading, video, multitasking, and productivity.
- Camera flexibility: The multiple rear cameras provide more shooting options than a typical phone.
- Performance: The processor is designed for demanding apps, games, and long-term use.
- Samsung’s ecosystem: Features such as DeX, Galaxy AI integration, and connections with other Galaxy devices may matter to existing Samsung users.
- Unlocked ownership: An unlocked phone avoids dependence on a particular carrier promotion.
- Long support: The announced seven-year support policy improves the phone’s potential useful life.
For these buyers, a discounted new unit or a carefully vetted open-box model can make more sense than paying full price for a newer phone whose extra features they may not need.

Who should skip it?
The S24 Ultra is not a universal bargain simply because it once received a $200 discount. Consider another phone if you:
- Want a compact or lightweight device; the Ultra is large and heavy.
- Do not need a stylus or advanced zoom cameras.
- Prefer a cleaner, more minimal Android interface.
- Care more about value than maximum hardware.
- Already own a recent flagship with satisfactory performance and cameras.
- Can receive a substantially better carrier or trade-in offer.
- Want the newest Galaxy processor, camera hardware, and longest remaining support window.
The Pixel 8 Pro comparison in the original 2024 coverage is now dated. A current value decision should compare the S24 Ultra with today’s Samsung and Google flagships, cheaper Galaxy models, and verified refurbished inventory—not rely on a two-year-old price comparison.

How to check an S24 Ultra listing before buying
- Confirm storage: Make sure the listing is for the 256GB version if that is the price being discussed. The 512GB and 1TB models should not be assumed to share the same discount.
- Confirm condition: “New,” “open-box,” “renewed,” and “refurbished” are different categories. Check battery, accessories, cosmetic condition, and warranty terms.
- Confirm seller and fulfillment: On Amazon, inspect whether the phone is sold and shipped by Amazon or by a marketplace seller. On Best Buy, distinguish standard retail, open-box, refurbished, and marketplace listings.
- Confirm it is a US unlocked model: “Unlocked” does not necessarily mean guaranteed compatibility with every network. Check supported LTE and 5G bands and whether the device is an imported regional model.
- Check warranty eligibility: Imported or previously activated phones may not receive the same US manufacturer support as an authorized retail unit.
- Read the return policy: Verify the return window, restocking rules, and who handles returns.
- Check the exact color and stock: A lower price may apply only to one color or disappear when inventory changes.
- Review checkout: Confirm whether a coupon, membership, activation, trade-in, or financing requirement is responsible for the advertised price. Compare the final pre-tax total.
Amazon, Best Buy, or Samsung?
Amazon
Amazon’s Galaxy S24 Ultra listings may offer broad inventory and convenient shipping, but product pages can combine multiple colors, storage tiers, sellers, conditions, and carrier versions. Inspect the specific offer rather than relying on the headline price.

Best Buy
Best Buy’s listings may provide store pickup and open-box options. Availability can vary by ZIP code, and unlocked, carrier, open-box, and refurbished products may appear together. Make sure the selected SKU matches the desired condition and activation status.
Samsung
Samsung’s US product page currently says the S24 Ultra is sold out and promotes newer Galaxy hardware. That does not prove Amazon or Best Buy have no remaining stock, but it indicates Samsung is no longer treating the S24 Ultra as its current flagship product. Samsung’s direct channel can still be useful for warranty support and trade-in programs when inventory is available.
What is the sensible buying decision now?
Do not use the April 2024 $1,100 figure as a live price or as proof that every S24 Ultra listing is a good deal. First compare the exact phone’s cash price with a current-generation Samsung flagship, a current Pixel flagship, a less expensive Galaxy S-series model, and reputable open-box or refurbished alternatives.

If the price is close to a newer Galaxy model, the newer phone’s current hardware and longer remaining support period may justify paying more.
