Short answer: The Galaxy A16 5G has sold for about $175, but the available price evidence does not establish that a new, unlocked U.S. model is in stock at that price now. A Best Buy result showed $174.74 but marked the listing sold out; Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. price sheet lists the unlocked 128GB model at $169.99. Treat $175 as a price to verify—not a guaranteed live deal or an obvious discount. If you find the right version new and unlocked, it can still make sense for basic use, especially if you value Samsung’s long update commitment and an AMOLED screen.
Is the $175 Galaxy A16 5G price live?
There is a real history behind the headline: Phandroid reported a $174.99 price in September 2025. A later indexed Best Buy result showed the unlocked 128GB phone at $174.74, but also marked it sold out. Neither record proves that the phone is available at checkout for $175 today. Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet lists the unlocked 128GB Galaxy A16 5G at $169.99, so $175 is not necessarily a discount against the current manufacturer price reference.
Before buying, check the price, stock, seller, condition, shipping, return terms and any activation requirement on the actual checkout page. The cited [Best Buy unlocked listing](https://www.bestbuy.com/product/samsung-galaxy-a16-5g-128gb-unlocked-blue-black/6607858) is distinct from its [Verizon version](https://www.bestbuy.com/product/samsung-galaxy-a16-5g-128-gb-blue-black-verizon/J3ZYG25PF9/) and [AT&T Prepaid version](https://www.bestbuy.com/product/at-t-prepaid-samsung-galaxy-a16-5g-128gb-prepaid-blue-black/J3ZYG25SRL). A carrier-specific price may come with eligibility or service conditions and is not the same deal as an unlocked phone.

Practical price test: Around $175 is reasonable if the phone is new, unlocked, the U.S. 128GB model, in stock and compatible with your carrier. It is less compelling if the price requires a plan you do not want, if the listing is refurbished or from an unfamiliar marketplace seller, or if a newer model costs only a little more.

What you get for the money
The U.S. unlocked 128GB model is identified as SM-A166UZKAXAA. Best Buy lists a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, 5G, expandable storage, IP54 resistance and support for 25W wired charging. The U.S. configuration is commonly listed with 4GB of RAM and Samsung’s Exynos 1330 processor; specifications can vary by country and carrier variant, so check the exact model rather than relying on a generic A16 listing.
- Display: AMOLED gives you deep blacks and strong contrast, a real advantage over many LCD phones in this price range. The large screen suits video, reading and everyday browsing. It is not a premium outdoor display, however, and visible bezels and comparatively limited brightness are trade-offs.
- Storage: 128GB is workable for ordinary use, and microSD expansion can help with photos and other files. A memory card does not replace internal storage for every app, so people who install many large games should plan accordingly.
- Battery and charging: The phone has a 5,000mAh-class battery and supports 25W wired charging. Charging is serviceable, not especially fast by newer midrange standards. A compatible charger may be sold separately; check the box contents and include a charger in your real cost if you need one.
- Durability and payments: The U.S. listing includes an IP54 resistance rating and NFC/Samsung Wallet support. IP54 is not a promise that the phone is waterproof; avoid treating it as protection against immersion.
- Camera: The main camera is commonly listed at 50MP, but megapixels alone do not predict results. Expect useful daylight photos for messages and social posts, not dependable low-light performance or image quality on a par with more expensive phones.
Performance: fine for basics, not a speed bargain
The Exynos 1330 and 4GB RAM are aimed at everyday tasks: calls, messaging, web browsing, maps, streaming and light multitasking. App switching may feel less immediate than on phones with more memory, and demanding games are likely to need reduced settings. That does not make the A16 unusable; it means buyers should not mistake 5G or a large AMOLED screen for high-end performance.

If you game heavily, edit video, keep many apps open or want a phone that feels fast under demanding workloads, spend more or compare faster alternatives. For a student, a first-phone user or someone buying a backup device for routine tasks, the A16’s compromises may be acceptable.
Its strongest case is software support
Samsung announced six generations of Android and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates for the U.S. Galaxy A16 5G. That unusually long commitment for a low-cost phone makes it attractive to people who would rather keep a basic handset for several years than replace it quickly. Read this as Samsung’s announced policy, not a guarantee that every update arrives at the same time for every carrier variant. Samsung notes that update policies can be subject to change.

Long software support also does not guarantee long battery health: the battery may wear with use while the phone remains eligible for updates. Check the total cost and compatibility
A low sticker price is only useful if the phone works on your network and does not trigger costs you did not plan to pay. Before ordering:
- Confirm the exact model and condition. For the U.S. unlocked 128GB version, check for model SM-A166UZKAXAA. Make sure the listing says new and unlocked—not renewed, open-box, imported or carrier-locked unless that is what you intend to buy.
- Check carrier compatibility before payment. Ask your carrier to confirm the exact model supports its network, including required VoLTE and 5G bands. Coverage, congestion, plan limits and supported bands determine real service; the 5G label alone does not guarantee faster or more reliable connections.
- Read activation terms. Separate Verizon and AT&T Prepaid listings are not interchangeable with the unlocked listing. Check whether activation, a qualifying plan or a lock period applies.
- Add necessary extras. Confirm whether a compatible USB-C charger is included. Add its cost, shipping and sales tax to the phone price, and check storage-card compatibility if you expect to expand storage.
- Keep a return path. Review the seller’s return policy and warranty, particularly for marketplace or imported devices. If the phone cannot be activated on your carrier, a clear return policy matters.
Who should buy it—and who should pass?
Buy the A16 5G around $175 if you want a new, unlocked U.S. Samsung phone for everyday basics, value AMOLED and expandable storage, and expect to keep it for years. It is a sensible fit for many parents, students and backup-phone buyers who do not need demanding gaming or top-tier photography.
Look elsewhere if speed, gaming, low-light photography, very fast charging or a particularly bright display is your priority. Also skip a cheap listing if it is tied to unwanted service, its model is uncertain, or your carrier cannot confirm compatibility.
Wait or compare first if the $175 offer is sold out or the unlocked phone is priced close to the newer A17. At a small price gap, compare their actual specifications, support terms and return conditions. The A16 is not automatically the best budget phone: its value comes from a particular combination of long announced support, an AMOLED screen and a low price, not from leading every category.
