Samsung added the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra to its U.S. Certified Re-Newed program on April 22, 2024, alongside a limited-time promotion promising at least $300 in trade-in value. That was not an unconditional $300 coupon: buyers had to trade in an eligible phone. The launch prices and promotion are historical; check Samsung’s live store and checkout terms for current prices and trade-in values.
What the 2024 offer actually was
Samsung’s April 22, 2024 announcement brought all three Galaxy S23 models into its U.S. Certified Re-Newed lineup, sold through Samsung.com and the Shop Samsung app. To mark Earth Day, Samsung offered a minimum guaranteed $300 trade-in value toward an eligible Certified Re-Newed smartphone for a limited time and while supplies lasted.
In other words, the headline’s “$300 off instantly” referred to a trade-in credit applied during purchase—not $300 off for every customer with no trade-in. Eligibility, the phone’s condition, and the offer’s dates were subject to Samsung’s terms. A buyer still needed to send in the trade-in device if instructed, and should have checked that the credit appeared in the order summary before placing the order.
Launch prices versus current listed prices
Droid Life reported the following launch-period prices and effective amounts after applying the $300 trade-in credit. These are April 2024 figures, not a current offer.

Droid Life’s launch coverage is the source for these reported prices. The net figures assume the buyer qualified for the full promotional credit; they do not include tax, shipping, or the value of the phone surrendered.
Samsung’s U.S. Certified Re-Newed S23 product page was observed listing the 128GB model at $439 and 256GB at $469, with trade-in value displayed up to $340. Those are page observations, not guaranteed prices for every buyer or a promise that inventory and offers will remain available. Prices, colors, storage, and trade-in quotes can change; confirm the configuration and final total in the live cart. The original $300 promotion should not be assumed active.

What Certified Re-Newed means
Certified Re-Newed is Samsung’s own refurbished-device channel, which offers more manufacturer oversight than buying from an unknown private seller, but it does not make an older phone factory-new. Samsung describes the program as including inspection and restoration, a new battery, genuine Samsung components where needed, and a one-year warranty. Droid Life reported a 147-point inspection for the S23 launch. These are program claims and reported details, not an independent assessment of an individual device.

The U.S. S23 listing identifies the phone as unlocked. Check the specific listing and your carrier’s compatibility before ordering, especially if you rely on a particular network or feature.

The one-year warranty is not the same as accidental-damage insurance. Samsung displayed Care+ as an optional add-on on the product page; observed options were $5 per month or $119 for two years, and $10 per month or $199 for two years with theft and loss coverage. Check current coverage, exclusions, and pricing before buying. Do not add Care+ or financing to the phone’s advertised price when comparing cash prices: both affect total cost, and financing terms and eligibility should be reviewed at checkout.
Before you submit a trade-in
- Choose the exact phone. Confirm model, storage, color, unlocked status, and current price. The cheapest listing may be a lower-storage version.
- Enter the trade-in honestly. Review Samsung’s current device list, condition questions, and promotion terms. A displayed “up to” amount is not a guaranteed quote for every phone.
- Check the order summary. Make sure the trade-in value or promotional credit appears before you buy. If the expected credit is missing, do not assume it will be added later.
- Prepare the old phone carefully. Samsung’s listing says a device in good condition should power on, have a working screen and charging port, hold a charge, and have no cracks to the display, body, or camera lens. Activation locks must be disabled, accounts removed, and the phone factory-reset; a banned device is not eligible.
- Follow shipping and inspection instructions. If Samsung requires the phone to be mailed in, meet the deadline and keep proof of shipment. A condition mismatch, lock, damage, or other eligibility problem can jeopardize the quoted value under the applicable terms.
- Calculate the full cost. Include tax, shipping, optional protection, and any financing costs or conditions. Tax treatment can vary by jurisdiction and checkout configuration.
Never send a phone with an account lock still enabled or personal data on it. Back it up, sign out of accounts, disable device-finding locks, remove the SIM or eSIM as appropriate, and reset it after confirming that the backup is usable.

Is Certified Re-Newed better than new or used?

The S23 makes sense when its final price is meaningfully below a comparable new phone and you value Samsung’s refurbishment channel and warranty. If the difference is small, compare a newer Galaxy—Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed catalog may offer newer models—or a carrier deal, while accounting for bill-credit conditions and the ownership period you expect. Choose a private used listing only if its savings justify the extra work of checking condition, seller reputation, network compatibility, and return protection.
Which S23 model fits?
- Galaxy S23: The lowest entry price and the compact option among the three. Consider it if size and cost matter more than a larger display.
- Galaxy S23+: A larger-screen choice for buyers who want more room and battery capacity than the standard S23.
- Galaxy S23 Ultra: The largest and most feature-rich option, with the more advanced camera system and built-in S Pen; it also costs more and takes up more space.
Do not choose on model name alone: compare the storage, condition and price actually offered, and decide whether the larger screen, camera capabilities, and S Pen justify the extra cost for your use.

Bottom line on the $300 headline
The Galaxy S23 series did join Samsung Certified Re-Newed, and the 2024 launch promotion could reduce the purchase price by at least $300 for buyers who traded in an eligible phone. It was not a no-trade-in discount, and its reported $369–$619 effective prices are historical. Today, judge the deal by Samsung’s live price and confirmed cart credit—not the old headline—and compare that total with a newer phone or a protected used option.
