Pre-launch Amazon.nl listings reported on July 22, 2024 showed the AMD Ryzen 9 9900X at approximately €508, including the Netherlands’ 21% VAT. The Ryzen 7 9700X appeared at €406 and the Ryzen 5 9600X at €319. These were early marketplace listings associated with Azerty.nl—not confirmed permanent European prices or current August 2026 prices.
The reported Dutch prices
Guru3D reported that Amazon.nl product pages, identified by Tweakers as being supplied by Dutch retailer Azerty.nl, listed three Ryzen 9000 processors for pre-order:

The evidence supports describing €508 as a reported retail or pre-order price. It does not establish that AMD officially set €508 as the Ryzen 9 9900X’s long-term European price.

The listing reportedly showed expected delivery beginning August 1, 2024, but pre-launch marketplace prices can be placeholders. Sellers may revise prices, remove listings, change stock status, or update delivery estimates when inventory arrives. Azerty.nl was identified as the supplying retailer at the time; Amazon.nl was the marketplace page where the listing appeared.
Why €508 cannot be compared directly with $549
The Dutch prices included 21% VAT, while a U.S. processor price is generally advertised before any state or local sales tax. European pricing also reflects distribution costs, retailer margins, shipping, currency risk, and regional tax treatment.

For that reason, €508 was not a straight currency conversion of $549. The dollar figures were reported alongside the listings as expected U.S. launch prices, not as exchange-rate calculations made from the Dutch prices.

Ryzen 9 9900X specifications
AMD lists the Ryzen 9 9900X as a Zen 5 desktop processor for the AM5 platform. Its key specifications are:

AMD’s product page recommends liquid cooling for optimal performance, although that does not mean every system must use a liquid cooler. Cooling choice should account for the case, noise target, workload, and cooler compatibility. See AMD’s official Ryzen 9 9900X specifications.

The Ryzen 9 9950X was absent from the reported Dutch pages, so the 9900X listing cannot be used to infer the flagship’s European price. AMD also claimed an average 16% IPC improvement over Zen 4, but that was an AMD claim based on AMD’s testing methodology—not an independent performance result.

Launch-date discrepancy
The contemporaneous pricing report referenced a July 31, 2024 release. AMD’s current product page lists August 15, 2024 as the Ryzen 9 9900X launch date. The two dates should therefore be treated as inconsistent reporting or changed timing, rather than presenting July 31 as an uncontested official date.

The processor price represented only one part of an AM5 build. A buyer would also need:

- An AM5 motherboard, such as a B650-class or higher board, with appropriate BIOS support
- DDR5 memory, ideally selected for capacity, compatibility, and the system’s workload
- A compatible CPU cooler, because no stock cooler was included
- Storage, case, power supply, and operating-system costs
- Usually a discrete graphics card for serious gaming, since the integrated Radeon graphics are limited
That total matters financially. An expensive motherboard with features you will not use can waste money, while an undersized cooler or power supply can create additional upgrade costs. Buyers upgrading an existing AM5 machine could have a better cost case than buyers purchasing every platform component from scratch.
Was the 9900X a good value at €508?
There was not enough evidence in the listing alone to make a definitive value judgment. The 9900X could make sense for buyers who needed substantial multi-threaded performance and already owned an AM5 platform. It was less automatically compelling for gaming-only buyers, who might compare it with an X3D processor or discounted Ryzen 7000 model.
A sound buying decision would compare the final street price, independent gaming and productivity benchmarks, cooling cost, motherboard cost, and the price of alternatives. The historical €508 listing should not be treated as a current offer or as proof that the processor was the best value in every system.
Bottom line
The Netherlands listing was a credible early retail indication: approximately €508 for the Ryzen 9 9900X, €406 for the Ryzen 7 9700X, and €319 for the Ryzen 5 9600X, all including 21% Dutch VAT. But €508 was a pre-launch marketplace price associated with Azerty.nl, not a confirmed permanent European MSRP, and it should not be presented as the processor’s current 2026 price.
