A December 16, 2025 report found the lowest listed price for a new GeForce RTX 5070 Ti in Japan had risen by about ¥22,820 in one week—approximately $150 at the report’s exchange rate. That is a significant regional signal, but it is not evidence that every RTX 5070 Ti worldwide suddenly costs $150 more or that NVIDIA raised its official price.

The more defensible reading is that memory inflation is becoming a genuine cost pressure for graphics-card suppliers. Whether, when, and how much of that pressure reaches US buyers depends on inventory, contracts, currency, taxes, board design, distribution and retailer pricing.

What actually increased?

PC Guide reported a roughly ¥22,820 increase in the lowest tracked Japanese retail listing for an RTX 5070 Ti over a one-week period. The article converted that movement to approximately $150. The comparison does not establish that the same board-partner model, retailer, promotion or inventory condition was used at both points, and it does not represent a manufacturer MSRP change.

Figure What it means
¥22,820 Reported one-week increase in Japan’s lowest observed listing
About $150 Approximate currency conversion used by the report, not a US transaction price
$749 NVIDIA’s announced starting price for the RTX 5070 Ti
About 20% Illustrative comparison of $150 with $749; it does not prove a 20% increase in any market

The Japanese movement could reflect a sale ending, low-cost stock selling out, a distributor invoice changing, a different model becoming the cheapest listing, or a genuine replacement-cost increase. The available evidence does not identify which explanation accounts for the entire change.

Why memory costs can push up GPU prices

The RTX 5070 Ti uses 16GB of GDDR7 and delivers 896GB/sec of memory bandwidth. GDDR7 is only one component of a graphics card, but it is a meaningful bill-of-materials item, particularly on a 16GB product.

The supply chain is more complicated than “AI used all the GDDR7.” Memory manufacturers produce several related products and allocate advanced capacity among them:

  • HBM: High-bandwidth memory used heavily in AI accelerators and data-center hardware.
  • Server DRAM: Conventional memory for AI and cloud servers, also benefiting from strong infrastructure demand.
  • GDDR6 and GDDR7: Graphics memory installed on consumer and professional GPUs.
  • DDR5 and other PC DRAM: A separate product category that can still compete for manufacturing capacity and process resources.
  • NAND flash: Used in SSDs, not as the memory on an RTX 5070 Ti.

TrendForce said in January 2026 that manufacturers were reallocating capacity toward HBM and server products. It forecast conventional DRAM contract prices rising 55–60% quarter over quarter in the first quarter of 2026, with server DRAM potentially increasing by more than 60%. TrendForce also said graphics-DRAM demand had softened, yet supply remained constrained because production capacity overlaps with other DRAM products. Those are market forecasts and analysis, not a direct measurement of a retail RTX 5070 Ti price.

Why shelf prices do not move all at once

  1. Board partners may have bought memory under earlier contracts.
  2. Already assembled cards contain memory purchased at those older prices.
  3. Retailers may discount old inventory before charging more for replacement stock.
  4. Distributor and retailer inventories turn over at different speeds.
  5. Premium or low-volume models can show higher costs before mainstream cards do.
  6. Manufacturers may absorb some cost to defend market share.
  7. Retailers can raise prices in anticipation of more expensive replenishment, even while older stock remains.

That is why a price increase can appear first in one country, one retailer or one model instead of through a single worldwide announcement.

What the RTX 5070 Ti launched at

NVIDIA announced a $749 starting price for the RTX 5070 Ti. Official specifications list 16GB of GDDR7 on a 256-bit interface and 896GB/sec of bandwidth. The launch figure is an MSRP-style starting point, not a guarantee that every board partner’s card will sell for $749.

A graphics card’s final price also includes the GPU die, memory packages, PCB, voltage-regulation components, cooler, fans, structural hardware, assembly, testing, packaging, logistics, distributor margins and retailer margins. Currency movements, taxes, compliance costs and local supply can matter as much as a component change. A memory-cost increase therefore cannot be converted directly into the same dollar increase at checkout.

NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series announcement and its official specifications page provide the launch price and hardware details. NVIDIA also published a launch press release.

Has the US market already risen?

The December 2025 report described North American pricing as less severely affected at that time. It noted that some RTX 5070 cards remained below suggested pricing while RTX 5070 Ti availability at or below its launch level was becoming harder.

That is historical context, not a verified current US price snapshot. The evidence here does not establish a nationwide American increase. NVIDIA Marketplace pages have shown RTX 5070 Ti listings around $749.99 to $949.99, including a Gigabyte Windforce listing at $749.99, a Gigabyte Eagle OC at $799.99, an MSI Ventus listing at $829.99 and an MSI model at $949.99. The cited pages indicated out-of-stock status in the captured results, so these are listing snapshots rather than confirmed transaction prices.

The later AMD signal

A July 2026 TrendForce report said AMD was reportedly raising GPU-and-GDDR kit prices for add-in-board partners by about 10%, citing MyDrivers, VideoCardz and TechPowerUp. This was secondary reporting, not a direct AMD announcement in the available evidence. It also concerned a supplier kit, not a finished retail card.

A 10% increase in a GPU-and-memory kit would not automatically create a 10% retail increase. Cooler, PCB, assembly, freight, channel margins and retailer decisions determine how much reaches consumers.

Should you buy an RTX 5070 Ti now?

Buy now when the price is close to launch pricing

  • You need a replacement or a GPU for a system being built now.
  • The card is genuinely in stock at roughly $749–$800 before taxes and shipping.
  • You specifically need 16GB of VRAM, NVIDIA’s DLSS and frame-generation ecosystem, ray-tracing performance or CUDA compatibility.
  • The upgrade from your current GPU will provide an immediate, material benefit.

Wait when the premium is doing the work of the headline

  • The card is substantially above $749 without a clear cooler, warranty or availability benefit.
  • Your current GPU works and you have no urgent workload.
  • The increase appears only at one retailer or on one factory-overclocked model.
  • You can monitor several retailers and accept a future purchase.

Compare alternatives before paying scarcity pricing

Check the RTX 5070, similarly performing Radeon products, previous-generation cards with adequate VRAM, used cards with transferable warranties and prebuilt systems. Compare ray tracing, upscaling and frame generation, VRAM, power draw, noise, software compatibility, warranty, returns and the final delivered price—not just the model name.

What could happen next?

Prices could stabilize or fall if AI-memory demand moderates, manufacturers add capacity, GPU demand weakens, excess inventory builds, a newer generation arrives or retailers compete more aggressively. They could remain elevated if HBM and server DRAM continue receiving priority, graphics-memory supply stays constrained, currencies weaken, margins are protected, low-cost inventory runs out or demand remains strong for 16GB cards.

The evidence supports continued upward pressure as a possibility, not a permanent increase as a certainty. Track dated, in-stock prices and distinguish a base model from a premium factory-overclocked card.

Analytical traps to avoid

  • Calling a Japanese minimum-price change a global MSRP increase.
  • Turning ¥22,820 directly into a US retail premium.
  • Claiming AI demand alone caused a specific GDDR7 shortage.
  • Treating HBM, server DRAM, DDR5 and GDDR7 as interchangeable.
  • Assuming a supplier-kit increase passes through dollar for dollar.
  • Using out-of-stock marketplace listings as proof of sale prices.
  • Comparing a premium cooler model with a base MSRP card without adjustment.
  • Calling retailer behavior price gouging without invoice or margin evidence.
  • Presenting a forecast as a confirmed future price.
