Microsoft’s U.S. store lists the ROG Xbox Ally X as sold out, but that does not mean the handheld is unavailable everywhere. The ASUS U.S. eShop listed the 24GB/1TB model in stock at $999.99, while Xbox’s official product page also identified Best Buy as a “BUY NOW” option. Because inventory can change during checkout—and Best Buy availability may depend on your ZIP code—treat these as availability signals, not guaranteed stock.
This assessment applies to the U.S. ROG Xbox Ally X (2025), model RC73XA. It does not apply to the older ROG Ally X (2024) or the less expensive ROG Xbox Ally.
Where the ROG Xbox Ally X is available
The strongest evidence does not support saying that all official stores are sold out. It supports a narrower conclusion: Microsoft is sold out, while ASUS and Best Buy still list legitimate purchase routes.

The availability evidence was gathered from pages crawled in late July and early August 2026, not from a guaranteed live checkout result on every date or in every location. Stock can disappear between opening a product page and completing payment.

Make sure you are buying the right model
Retailer pages often group several ROG handhelds together. Search for the complete name ROG Xbox Ally X (2025) and, where displayed, model RC73XA.
- AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor
- 24GB LPDDR5X memory
- 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage
- 7-inch 1920×1080 display with a 120Hz refresh rate
- Windows 11 Home
- 715g listed weight
The X model is not the ROG Ally X (2024), which uses the Ryzen Z1 Extreme platform, and it is not the base ROG Xbox Ally (2025). Xbox lists the base model at $599.99 with 16GB memory and a Ryzen Z2 A processor. The $400 difference is therefore tied to a different processor, memory configuration, and product specification—not merely a retailer markup.
ASUS and Best Buy materials also highlight an 80Wh-class battery, while ASUS lists an NPU rated up to 50 TOPS and a processor boost of up to 5.0GHz. Those specifications do not, by themselves, establish how much faster the X will be in every game or whether it is worth $999.99 for every buyer.

Yes. ASUS is the manufacturer and operates the ASUS eShop, so it should not be described as merely an unrelated retailer. If ASUS is showing the RC73XA at $999.99, that is a manufacturer-direct buying option.

Best Buy may be the remaining major third-party retailer at a particular moment, but it is not accurate to call Best Buy the only legitimate way to buy the device while ASUS is also listing stock.
What “in stock” does—and does not—mean
A product page can show a “Buy now” button even when fulfillment is limited. Before paying, check:
- Whether the item is new rather than open-box, refurbished, or used.
- Whether it is sold directly by ASUS or Best Buy rather than a marketplace seller.
- The final price after shipping, taxes, protection plans, and accessories.
- The promised ship date or a specific store-pickup location.
- Whether the listing is for the RC73XA rather than the base Ally or 2024 Ally X.
- The return policy and warranty coverage, especially for imported or gray-market units.
Best Buy inventory can vary by ZIP code, shipping method, and store. A listing may also remain visible after the last units have been allocated. Save the order confirmation if checkout succeeds, but do not treat a product-page label as proof of same-day dispatch.
Should you buy now or wait?
Buying now makes sense if:
- You specifically want the X model’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of memory, and 1TB storage.
- The seller is ASUS, Microsoft, or Best Buy itself.
- Checkout provides a credible delivery date or confirmed pickup.
- You accept the $999.99 price and the possibility that inventory may disappear before payment clears.
Waiting makes more sense if:
- You do not need a Windows handheld immediately.
- The only available unit is sold by an unknown marketplace seller.
- The listing has no firm fulfillment estimate.
- Your budget is closer to $600, making the base ROG Xbox Ally a more relevant comparison.
- You want to compare Windows handhelds or Steam Deck models before spending $1,000.
Do not pay a large premium simply because Microsoft is sold out. A price materially above $999.99 should be treated as a markup unless the listing clearly includes a legitimate bundle. An unusually low price may indicate open-box, refurbished, incomplete, imported, or gray-market inventory.

If the listing fails at checkout
Try the retailer’s other fulfillment options, including shipping and genuine local pickup. Recheck the product page after signing in, since availability can change by location. Then check the Xbox/Microsoft page and the ASUS product page rather than moving immediately to a marketplace listing.
If every first-party option disappears, consider waiting for a restock, choosing the $599.99 base ROG Xbox Ally, or comparing another handheld. The three-month Xbox Game Pass Premium offer mentioned for eligible markets is subject to activation terms, regional catalog limits, and possible automatic renewal; it should not be treated as $45 of guaranteed cash value.
Bottom line
Microsoft’s sellout is real, but the broader claim that the ROG Xbox Ally X is sold out at all official stores is not established. The ASUS U.S. eShop listed the RC73XA in stock at $999.99, and Best Buy remained an official retailer option in the available evidence. Buy only after confirming the exact model, seller, final price, and delivery or pickup promise at checkout.
