Yes—but Raspberry Pi did not just become public. Raspberry Pi Holdings plc listed on the London Stock Exchange in June 2024. Its shares trade as RPI on the LSE Main Market. The listing applies to the commercial parent company, not to the Raspberry Pi Foundation as a charity.

When did Raspberry Pi go public?

The IPO took place in May and June 2024. Raspberry Pi announced on June 11 that it had listed as Raspberry Pi Holdings plc, with an offer price of 280 pence per share. The company’s IPO archive includes an admission-to-trading announcement dated June 14. The London Stock Exchange lists June 11, 2024 as the issue date. Raspberry Pi’s IPO announcement and its IPO document archive record the milestones.

  • May 15, 2024: registration-document materials were published.
  • May 22, 2024: the company announced its intention to float.
  • June 11, 2024: offer price set at 280p per share; listing announced.
  • June 14, 2024: the company’s archive records an admission-to-trading announcement.

Which Raspberry Pi entity is listed?

“Raspberry Pi” can refer to a brand, products and several connected organizations. For investors, the relevant legal entity is Raspberry Pi Holdings plc, the publicly listed parent. Raspberry Pi Ltd is the operating company associated with the products and commercial business. The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a separate charity focused on computing education and social impact. The FCA-hosted prospectus identifies Raspberry Pi Holdings plc as the company admitted to the FCA Official List and LSE Main Market.

The Foundation has a significant relationship with the commercial group, but it did not become an ordinary for-profit public company. Raspberry Pi said the IPO would provide capital to the business and that money raised by the Foundation through the IPO would support its long-term ambitions. That does not mean all IPO proceeds went to the charity.

Raspberry Pi stock: ticker, exchange and currency

The shares trade as RPI on the London Stock Exchange Main Market. The instrument’s ISIN is GB00BS3DYQ52. Prices are quoted in pence sterling; 280p, the original offer price, is £2.80 per share. The LSE company page provides listing and instrument information, but a quoted price changes over time and may be delayed.

The 280p IPO price is a historical fact, not a current price, forecast or valuation target. A share’s market price is separate from the retail price of a Raspberry Pi board. Buying a board does not make you a shareholder, and owning shares does not entitle you to products, discounts or Foundation programs.

Why did Raspberry Pi list?

Raspberry Pi said public-market access could help it build more products and accelerate its next phase. Its investor materials also describe a higher public profile as useful for opening doors with potential original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers. A listing can also provide access to equity capital, a publicly traded share currency for employee incentives or transactions, and a market where some existing shareholders can sell shares.

Those potential advantages come with obligations and trade-offs: a listed company must report publicly and answer to shareholders, and its performance receives more scrutiny. Investors will watch matters such as growth, margins, supply-chain exposure and execution. The listing creates those mechanisms; it does not guarantee a particular product, price or business outcome.

What does the listing mean for users?

For people using Raspberry Pi computers, the IPO did not turn hardware into shares or make the Foundation a commercial company. Raspberry Pi products remain hardware and software sold through commercial channels. Public ownership also does not guarantee lower board prices, better support or consistent availability.

The commercial business serves more than hobbyists and schools. Raspberry Pi’s investor materials describe industrial and embedded computing, OEM design-ins and semiconductors—including the RP2040 microcontroller—as important parts of its business. Its reported applications span areas such as automotive, medical, retail point-of-sale, industrial automation, smart home, gaming and the Internet of Things.

In IPO-era materials, the company reported that industrial and embedded markets made up 72% of unit sales in 2023, compared with 28% for enthusiast and education markets. That is a historical 2023 split, not a current breakdown. A greater focus on industrial customers could influence business priorities, but the listing alone does not establish that the company has reduced support for hobbyists or education.

Nor does public ownership solve supply problems. Semiconductor shortages, memory costs, manufacturing limits, reseller allocations and regional differences can still affect whether a board is available and at what price.

What the company reports about its size

Raspberry Pi’s investor-relations homepage reports FY2025 revenue of $323.2 million and gross profit of $77.8 million. These are company-reported figures for the financial year, not a live measure of performance. The company’s homepage also displays more than 73 million units sold, while another company page describes more than 67 million units shipped. The displayed figures may reflect different dates or definitions; the available materials do not fully reconcile them, so they should not be treated as directly comparable. See the company’s investor-relations site and reports archive.

What should prospective investors consider?

RPI is a UK-listed share, not a US-listed stock by default. Whether you can trade it depends on your brokerage, account type, market access and local rules. A UK quote in pence is not a dollar price, and currency movements can affect a non-UK investor’s return.

Like other company shares, RPI can rise or fall. Relevant risks include execution, changing demand, component costs and availability, currency movements, customer concentration, competition and broad market conditions. The fact that Raspberry Pi sells popular products does not guarantee future profits or share-price gains. This is general information, not investment advice; research the company’s filings and consider your own circumstances before making an investment decision.

The question behind the listing

The commercial company has shareholder and financial-performance obligations, while the Foundation’s stated mission centers on computing education. Raspberry Pi presents commercial ambition and social purpose as compatible, but public-company status can create pressure to prioritize growth and margins. Whether that ever conflicts with low-cost educational access or product allocation is something to assess from the company’s subsequent decisions and reporting—not something the IPO itself proves.
