On February 6, 2025, fintech company Ramp announced that Saquon Barkley had invested in the company and would star in its first Super Bowl commercial. The announcement combined an undisclosed private investment, an athlete partnership and a major brand campaign ahead of Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025.
What Ramp announced
Ramp presented Barkley’s involvement as more than a conventional celebrity endorsement. The Philadelphia Eagles running back became an investor in Ramp and appeared as the central figure in a 15-second commercial scheduled to air during the Eagles’ Super Bowl matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The investment amount, ownership percentage, valuation used for the transaction, deal structure and any separate compensation for the commercial were not publicly disclosed in the available reporting. Ramp also said the investment was Barkley’s largest private technology investment to date, but that characterization should be attributed to the company rather than treated as independently verified financial data. How Barkley became involved
According to Ramp CEO Eric Glyman’s account, Barkley—not Ramp—initiated the conversation about investing. The reported origin story involved Barkley reading Peter Thiel’s Zero to One, a book about startups, and receiving recommendations about Ramp from mutual investor contacts.

That explains how the relationship began, but it does not establish the full basis for Barkley’s investment decision. The available announcement does not describe his financial analysis, due diligence, ownership stake or ongoing responsibilities at Ramp. It also should not be read as proof that Barkley uses Ramp’s products in his own business or has an operational role at the company.
What appeared in the commercial
The ad used a simple visual metaphor for the problem Ramp says its software addresses: Barkley is shown buried beneath a mountain of expense reports. The image turns a back-office finance task into a scene that can be understood instantly by a broad television audience.
Glyman said the commercial was conceived, filmed and completed in seven days. It was Ramp’s first Super Bowl commercial. The official spot is available through Ramp’s YouTube video, subject to the platform’s availability and any applicable publication rights.

Why the partnership mattered to Ramp
The partnership gave Ramp several forms of visibility at once. Barkley brought athlete recognition, Eagles relevance and a direct connection to one of the year’s largest advertising events. His investment also allowed Ramp to present him as a financial participant in the company rather than merely a person paid to read an endorsement.
That distinction can strengthen the credibility of the campaign’s story: Barkley had “skin in the game,” at least in the sense that he invested capital. It does not mean he advised Ramp, serves on its board, helped run the company or has independently verified the product’s performance.
The creative choice also addressed a marketing challenge. Ramp primarily sells to businesses and finance teams, while the Super Bowl audience is much broader than the potential customer base for corporate cards and expense software. The expense-report pile made the product category visually legible to that mass audience, even if viewers remembered Barkley more readily than the details of Ramp’s platform.

There is no publicly established evidence in the announcement coverage of the campaign’s viewership, brand lift, website traffic, customer signups, revenue impact or return on advertising spend. The partnership’s strategic logic is clear, but its business results should not be inferred from the announcement alone.

Founded in 2019, Ramp began with corporate cards and business expense management. Its broader finance-operations offering has included tools related to business spending, expense control, payments, accounting, reporting, travel and bill pay. Ramp describes the platform in more detail on its company background page and enterprise product page.
In practical terms, Ramp is aimed at helping companies manage how employees spend money, document expenses and connect spending information with finance and accounting workflows. That makes expense reports a product-relevant subject for the commercial rather than a random celebrity gag.

Ramp’s financial backdrop in February 2025
TechCrunch reported that Ramp’s most recent valuation at the time was $7.65 billion. That is a historical figure tied to the February 2025 announcement—not a current valuation as of 2026. Ramp’s press page contains later company announcements, so figures from subsequent financing or valuation events should not be retroactively applied to Barkley’s investment.
The reported valuation also does not reveal what Barkley paid or what percentage of Ramp he received. A company’s headline valuation cannot be used to calculate the economics of an individual investment without the transaction amount and terms.

Barkley’s other reported startup investments
TechCrunch, citing PitchBook, reported that Barkley had also backed Monad Labs, Sequin and X2 Performance. The list was not presented as a complete portfolio, and the available coverage does not disclose the dates, amounts, ownership stakes or terms of those investments.

His participation in Ramp therefore fits a broader reported interest in technology investing, but the public record available for this announcement is not detailed enough to compare the size or importance of his different holdings.
What remains unknown
- The amount Barkley invested.
- His ownership percentage and the valuation applied to his investment.
- Whether he received separate compensation for appearing in the commercial.
- Whether he has advisory, governance or other formal rights at Ramp.
- Whether he has any ongoing operational role.
- Any measurable effect on Ramp’s customers, revenue, traffic or brand awareness.
The bottom line
Ramp’s February 2025 announcement was notable because it combined venture investing, athlete marketing and B2B brand-building. Barkley became both an investor and the face of Ramp’s first Super Bowl commercial, while the expense-report concept translated the company’s finance-operations pitch into a quick, broadly understandable image.
The announcement establishes the partnership, but not its economics or performance. The investment amount and terms remained private, and the available sources do not show whether the campaign produced measurable commercial results.
