Public Mobile did launch $40/month and $50/month plans with 150GB and 250GB of data, respectively, but only as a short-term promotion announced March 13, 2026. The advertised window ended March 16. They should not be treated as part of Public Mobile’s current lineup without checking the live plans page.

MobileSyrup reported that both were no-contract subscription plans and were available only for a few days. The advertised prices may not include taxes, and any applicable SIM, eSIM or activation charges depended on the offer terms.
Why Public launched them
The timing was a direct response to Freedom Mobile bringing back a promotional $40/250GB plan on March 13. Public’s $40 option had 100GB less data, while its $50 option matched Freedom’s 250GB allowance for $10 more. Public’s plans added a different mix of value: Canada-U.S.-Mexico service and 1,000 or 2,000 international calling minutes.

Are the plans still available?
The reported promotion ended March 16, 2026. A later captured result for Public’s official plans page showed different offers, including a $50/month 175GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico plan. Because plan pages change by campaign, province and date, check the checkout screen and current terms rather than relying on an old screenshot, cached page or referral post.
For a current offer, verify:
- the monthly price before taxes;
- the exact data allowance and any reduced-speed policy;
- Canada-only versus Canada-U.S.-Mexico coverage;
- international-call destinations and minute limits;
- hotspot rules, eSIM availability and activation costs; and
- whether the offer is for new activations, existing customers or targeted accounts.
Could existing Public Mobile customers switch?
Not necessarily. Community reports said some existing subscribers could not see the promotional plans in their normal plan-change area. Those reports show that account visibility varied, but they do not establish a universal official eligibility rule. A plan available to a new activation might not be offered to an existing line, or might be scheduled only for a future renewal.

Do not cancel an existing line or change immediately until the replacement plan, effective date and billing consequences are displayed in your account.
What “Canada-U.S.-Mexico” does—and does not—mean
The label identifies the included service territories; it is not a promise of identical service everywhere. Public’s service terms state that roaming depends on compatible technology and partner agreements, and that bandwidth allocation can affect availability or speed.

Before subscribing, confirm whether the allowance is usable in each country, whether voice and text are included while roaming, which destinations the international minutes cover, and whether calls made while roaming qualify. Also check Mexico partner coverage, device-band compatibility, hotspot limits, fair-use rules and what happens after the data bucket is consumed. The headline figures alone do not prove unlimited full-speed data or unlimited roaming.
Which plan would have suited which user?
- $40/150GB: a strong fit for heavy users who regularly cross the Canada-U.S.-Mexico border, need international calling and are unlikely to exceed 150GB.
- $50/250GB: better for very high data use, frequent hotspot use (if permitted by the terms) or anyone using mobile data as a home-internet substitute.
- Neither: sensible if you use little data, travel outside the three included countries, need guaranteed retail support or cannot obtain the promotion on your account.
What to do now
- Open Public Mobile’s current plans page and record the offer’s price, data, territories and included calling.
- Enter your province and device details, if requested, to expose any location or compatibility restrictions.
- At checkout, verify taxes, eSIM/SIM or activation charges and the first renewal date.
- Compare the result with Freedom and other prepaid providers using the same criteria—not just the data headline.
Remember that 5G indicates the advertised network tier, not a guaranteed speed. Coverage, congestion, device compatibility, indoor conditions and roaming partners all affect actual performance.

The Bottom Line
Public’s $40/150GB and $50/250GB plans were real but fleeting March 2026 promotions, introduced amid a Freedom Mobile price war. They expired March 16, and access was not clearly universal for existing customers. Judge any decision by the current Public Mobile offer and its detailed roaming, speed, calling and fee terms—not by archived headlines.
