Public Mobile introduced a $34-per-month, 60GB 5G plan on April 7, 2025. It includes data at reported speeds of up to 250Mbps, then continues at up to 512Kbps after the 60GB allowance is used. In other words, the plan offers unlimited data, but not unlimited full-speed 5G data. Launch coverage described it as Canada-only, with unlimited Canada-wide talk and text (MobileSyrup; iPhone in Canada).
The exact offer is not independently confirmed as a publicly available plan in 2026. Check Public Mobile’s live plans page and your logged-in account before treating $34 as a current price.

The plan was positioned as a cheaper domestic alternative to a then-available $35 Canada–U.S.–Mexico option. Similar prices can refer to different Public Mobile plans, so compare geography, speed policy and eligibility—not just the monthly number.
What “unlimited” means after 60GB
Once 60GB is consumed, service does not stop and the carrier does not charge an overage in the launch description. Instead, the connection is reduced to a maximum of 512Kbps. Public Mobile community discussions also describe reduced-speed data applying when a phone is on LTE rather than 5G, but that is community guidance rather than a substitute for current plan terms (community discussion; another community discussion).

At 512Kbps, the fallback can be adequate for:
- Text messaging and email
- Basic maps and navigation
- Lightweight web pages
- Some audio streaming at conservative quality
It is likely to be frustrating or impractical for HD video, video calls, large downloads, app updates, photo backups, high-resolution social feeds, laptop tethering and cloud-heavy work. Do not describe this as unlimited high-speed data.
Canada-only is the central trade-off
The $34 offer was described as Canada-only. Unlimited Canada-wide calling is not the same as international calling, and domestic service is not the same as roaming abroad. The launch material confirms Canada-wide talk and text but does not establish a universal allowance of international minutes, international SMS/MMS or U.S./Mexico use.
If you regularly cross the border, compare a current Canada–U.S.–Mexico plan, a roaming add-on, a travel eSIM or a local SIM. A slightly higher monthly bill can be better value than losing service or paying roaming charges. Cross-border commuters should not choose this plan solely because 60GB looks generous.

Is it still available?
The offer was reported as a launch plan on April 7, 2025, and was not described as explicitly limited-time. That does not guarantee that it remains available indefinitely. Public Mobile has changed its lineup, and customers can see different offers depending on whether they are activating a new line or managing an existing account.
- Open the current Public Mobile plans page and look for the exact $34, 60GB terms.
- Sign in and check Change Subscription; an existing-customer offer may differ from the public activation page.
- Confirm whether the displayed price is for a new activation, a renewal or a targeted account offer.
- Read the plan’s roaming, international-calling, hotspot and speed wording before checkout.
- Check when a change takes effect and whether switching would remove a grandfathered plan or promotion.
Anecdotal 2026 customer posts suggest some users retained or received related $34 offers, but those reports do not establish universal availability (Reddit report; another report).
Who gets value from it?
- Light users (about 5–15GB): 60GB may be more capacity than you need unless the verified price is unusually competitive.
- Typical smartphone users (15–40GB): The allowance provides a substantial cushion.
- Heavy domestic users (40–60GB): The plan can prevent a hard cutoff, provided you can tolerate slow fallback data.
- Users above 60GB: The unlimited portion is mainly an emergency connection, not a replacement for full-speed service.
- Hotspot users: Check tethering rules; 512Kbps is especially poor for laptops and tablets.
Other practical limitations
Public Mobile is a prepaid, primarily self-serve brand. BYOD customers should verify that their phone is unlocked, compatible with the network and eligible for eSIM if needed. Account, activation, payment, cancellation and renewal rules can change, so consult current terms. Community posts describe limited conventional phone support and missing features such as Wi-Fi calling, but verify those points against current official documentation before switching (community discussion).

A “5G plan” also does not guarantee a 5G signal. Coverage, device compatibility and local congestion determine the radio connection; the advertised speed cap is not a promise of a particular real-world speed.
How to compare alternatives
Check current offers from Freedom Mobile, Fido, Koodo, Virgin Plus, Lucky Mobile and chatr. Compare:
- Canada-only versus Canada–U.S.–Mexico coverage
- High-speed data amount and post-cap speed
- Hotspot allowances
- International calling minutes
- Support model and account features
- Eligibility for new versus existing customers
Do not use historical competitor prices as current 2026 quotes. The best alternative is the one that fixes this plan’s weakness—roaming, support, international calling or insufficient high-speed data—rather than simply offering another headline gigabyte figure.

Bottom line
Choose the $34 plan only if the exact offer is visible to you, you spend most of your time in Canada, your phone is compatible, and 60GB at full speed is enough. Treat post-cap data as a basic 512Kbps safety net. Frequent U.S. or Mexico travelers, heavy hotspot users and customers who need live support should compare other plans before switching.
