Short answer: a new, unlocked Google Pixel 9 Pro at $749 is still a good phone deal—but it is not automatically the best Pixel value in August 2026. Before buying, compare it with the Pixel 10 Pro, verify the offer is an instant discount, and confirm that the handset is new, unlocked, correctly configured, and fully warranted.
The advertised $250 saving implies a drop from the Pixel 9 Pro’s original $999 starting price to $749, or roughly 25% off. That is attractive for a compact flagship with a genuine Pro camera system. But the Pixel 9 Pro launched in 2024, and Google has since introduced newer Pixel generations.

The $749 price has been reported in earlier Best Buy deal coverage, but that article is not current enough to prove that the offer is active now. Treat $749 as a price target until you see the exact listing and checkout terms.

Why the Pixel 9 Pro is still a compelling phone
The Pixel 9 Pro’s strongest argument is the combination of a relatively small body and a full three-camera setup. It has a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED Super Actua display with a 1–120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. It also includes 16GB of RAM and Google’s Tensor G4 processor.
Its rear cameras comprise:
- 50MP wide camera
- 48MP ultrawide camera with Macro Focus
- 48MP 5x telephoto camera
- Super Res Zoom up to 30x
That telephoto camera is the feature that most clearly separates the Pro from cheaper Pixel models. For shoppers who prefer a smaller phone but still want optical zoom, the Pixel 9 Pro remains distinctive.
The phone has a 4,700mAh typical-capacity battery, Qi-certified wireless charging, Battery Share, and storage options ranging from 128GB to 1TB depending on configuration and market. Google says it can provide more than 24 hours of battery life and up to 100 hours with Extreme Battery Saver; those are Google’s claims, not guaranteed real-world runtimes.

Google also states that the Pixel 9 Pro can reach up to 55% charge in about 30 minutes when used with its 45W USB-C charger. The charger is sold separately, so include that cost if you need one.

Do not confuse it with the Pixel 9 Pro XL
The discounted phone should be identified carefully. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL share the Tensor G4 processor, 16GB of RAM, and triple-camera system, but they are not the same size.

The smaller model is arguably the more interesting bargain because it delivers the Pro camera hardware without requiring a large phone. If a listing is for the XL, calculate its value separately rather than assuming the same deal applies.
The Pixel 10 Pro is the comparison that matters
Google’s official Pixel 10 Pro page has displayed a $699 price against a $999 reference price, implying a $300 saving. However, that page has also shown a promotion end marker dated July 2026, which conflicts with the August buying context. Confirm the price at checkout before relying on it.
Use this practical rule:
- Pixel 10 Pro at $699 to $749, new and unlocked: it is generally the better purchase because it is newer and may have a longer remaining support runway.
- Pixel 10 Pro at $799 or more: the Pixel 9 Pro at $749 becomes more defensible, especially if the older phone has more storage or the smaller form factor is important.
- Pixel 10 Pro offered only through a carrier: calculate the total cost of the required service plan, trade-in, activation, and bill credits before comparing it with an unlocked Pixel.
Compare like-for-like storage. A 256GB Pixel 9 Pro at $749 may be more attractive than a 128GB newer model at nearly the same price, while a 128GB phone may be poor value for someone who records lots of 4K video or stores large offline libraries.

Pixel 11 makes the timing less straightforward
Google’s Pixel 11 generation launched in August 2026. Secondary launch coverage reported US starting prices of $899 for the Pixel 11 and $1,099 for the Pixel 11 Pro, with higher prices for the Pro XL and Pro Fold. See the reported launch context from TechRadar and Tom’s Guide.
That launch cuts both ways. Retailers may reduce remaining Pixel 9 Pro inventory, creating deeper clearance prices. But new Pixel 11 preorder incentives, trade-in bonuses, and store credits can narrow the effective gap between an older discounted phone and a current model. Compare actual cash prices and the value of promotions separately; a trade-in credit or future gift card is not the same as an instant $250 reduction.

What you give up by buying the older model
The Pixel 9 Pro first became available in 2024. Google promises seven years of updates from when the device first became available on the US Google Store, according to its Pixel update policy. That is a substantial commitment, but a phone purchased in 2026 naturally has fewer remaining years than a Pixel 10 or Pixel 11.

Other age-related trade-offs include:
- An older Tensor G4 platform and potentially less support for future hardware-dependent AI features.
- Lower likely resale or trade-in value later.
- Higher risk that remaining retail stock is open-box, refurbished, returned, or has unclear warranty coverage.
- Potentially older battery inventory, depending on manufacture date and storage conditions.
- Less future-proofing than a current-generation model.
None of this makes the Pixel 9 Pro obsolete. It means the discount must compensate you for buying a generation—or, after the Pixel 11 launch, two generations—behind.

- The handset is brand-new and sold by Google or an authorized retailer.
- It is unlocked and does not require activation or a service commitment.
- The $749 price is an immediate reduction before tax, not a rebate or future credit.
- The storage capacity fits your needs.
- The Pixel 10 Pro is not available new and unlocked for roughly the same price.
- You specifically value a compact 6.3-inch phone and Pixel camera processing.
- You are comfortable with a shorter remaining support horizon than newer Pixels provide.
Who should skip it?
Pass on the deal when:
- A new unlocked Pixel 10 Pro is available for $699–$749 with comparable storage.
- The listing is refurbished or open-box without a strong warranty and clear return policy.
- The phone is carrier-locked or requires a multi-month plan.
- The advertised saving arrives as bill credits, store credit, or a gift card.
- You prioritize gaming performance, the newest processor, or the longest possible support life.
- You need 512GB or 1TB but the discounted model has only 128GB.
- You already own a recent Pixel 10 Pro or Pixel 11.
Use this checklist before paying
- Confirm the model: verify that the listing says Pixel 9 Pro, not Pixel 9, Pixel 9a, or Pixel 9 Pro XL.
- Check condition: look for “new,” not renewed, refurbished, open-box, or marketplace stock.
- Check the seller: confirm who fulfills the order and who provides the warranty.
- Check lock status: look for unlocked status and confirm that activation is not required.
