Norwegian cybersecurity startup Pistachio announced a $7 million Series A on April 29, 2025. Walter Ventures led the round, joined by Angel Invest, Idékapital, J12 Ventures, and MP Pensjon. SecurityWeek reported that the financing brought Pistachio’s total raised to $10.5 million.
The company plans to use the funding to expand in Europe and North America, including opening an office in Valencia, Spain. Pistachio sells software designed to train employees through realistic, personalized security scenarios delivered inside workplace tools.
Funding details
The funding announcement was made in 2025, so it should not be treated as a new 2026 financing event. The reported round details are:

What Pistachio sells
Pistachio’s original funding coverage focused on automated security-awareness training and simulated cyberattacks. Its current product presentation is broader and centers on two products: Practice and Presence.
Pistachio Practice
Practice provides security-awareness training, phishing simulations, scenario-based exercises, and learning feedback. The company says its system personalizes scenarios according to employee behavior and learning patterns, then delivers content through familiar workplace applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and Slack.
That approach is intended to replace occasional, standardized compliance courses with repeated practice in the tools employees already use. Pistachio positions the product as automated and requiring less manual campaign management than traditional platforms. Those are vendor positioning claims, not independent proof that the system produces better security outcomes.

Pistachio Presence
Presence is the company’s newer insider-threat-detection offering. Pistachio says it looks for unusual activity across connected cloud services and lists integrations including Microsoft 365, GitHub, Gong, and HubSpot.
Presence should not be treated as a replacement for endpoint detection, a SIEM, data-loss prevention, or incident-response tooling. Buyers need to verify whether its cloud integrations and detection coverage meet their specific requirements.
Why investors are funding this category
Employees remain exposed to phishing and social-engineering attempts, while attackers can use automation and personalization to create convincing messages at scale. That has pushed security teams toward human-risk programs that combine training, simulations, reporting, and behavioral measurement.
Pistachio CEO Joe Jones framed the round around the limits of traditional training as social-engineering attacks become easier to produce. The argument is commercially relevant, but it remains the company’s rationale for the financing. A phishing simulation or completed lesson is not the same as a prevented breach, and the available funding coverage does not establish independent efficacy results.
How the platform is deployed
Pistachio’s current FAQ says Microsoft Entra ID is required and that users authenticate with Microsoft SSO. Google support is described as planned rather than currently available. That makes the identity-provider requirement a major consideration for Google Workspace-only organizations.
The vendor describes a typical setup as:
- Connect Microsoft Entra ID.
- Authenticate through Microsoft SSO.
- Select or create the relevant Entra security groups.
- Synchronize users.
- Choose the communication channel for Practice content.
- Activate the product and review results.
According to the vendor FAQ, Practice users can be assigned through an Entra security group containing pistachio-sat, while Presence uses a group containing pistachio-itd. The administrative group convention is pistachio-admin. These are current vendor instructions and may change.

Pistachio says setup can take under ten minutes and requires little ongoing administration. That timing has not been independently verified. The FAQ lists compliance PDF reports, management-summary PDF reports, and full CSV exports of employee activity.
Expansion plans and company status
Pistachio said the Series A would support expansion across Europe and into North America, as well as the opening of a Valencia office.

As of August 18, 2026, the company’s website listed Oslo as its base, with offices in London and Valencia, and reported more than 60 employees. At the time of the funding announcement, Pistachio said it served more than 600 companies in 16 countries and conducted more than two million simulations annually. Those operating figures were company-provided metrics reported by SecurityWeek, not independently audited figures.
Pistachio says it was founded in 2019. The company’s current product scope is therefore broader than the awareness-training description attached to the 2025 funding announcement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What buyers should evaluate
Potentially strong fit
- Organizations already using Microsoft Entra ID.
- Teams seeking automated awareness training and phishing simulations.
- Companies that want training delivered through Outlook, Teams, or Slack.
- Security teams with limited staff for manually managing campaigns.
- Organizations willing to pilot the platform before making a longer commitment.
Potentially poor fit
- Google Workspace-only organizations that need support immediately.
- Companies requiring self-hosted or on-premises software.
- Buyers looking for a full learning-management system with extensive course authoring.
- Organizations that require a published numerical price before procurement.
- Teams that need independent evidence of behavior-change effectiveness.
Pistachio’s pricing page describes a fixed price per user. Online signup can be billed monthly according to synchronized users, while annual contracts use tailored pricing and generally involve a one-year commitment. The company advertises a full product trial after Microsoft Entra ID is connected, but no numerical public list price was visible in the available pricing material.
Before deployment, security and procurement teams should ask what employee events are collected, where data is processed and stored, how long records are retained, who can view behavior data, how false positives are handled, and whether employee notice or works-council consultation is required. Pistachio says Presence does not inspect devices, track productivity, or report normal activity; that policy should still be reviewed against applicable privacy, labor, and data-protection obligations.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The competitive question
Pistachio’s stated differentiation is the combination of automation, personalization, repeated scenarios, workplace-app delivery, and behavioral feedback. Conventional awareness platforms may offer more standardized compliance controls, broader directory or LMS compatibility, and greater curriculum-management flexibility.
The practical trade-off is not simply “AI versus old training.” It is workflow integration and lower administration on one side, versus ecosystem breadth, curriculum control, deployment flexibility, and independently demonstrated outcomes on the other. Funding from established investors can help Pistachio expand, but it does not by itself validate product efficacy, return on investment, or procurement suitability.
Bottom line
Pistachio’s $7 million Series A gives the Norwegian startup capital to expand a workflow-integrated approach to human cybersecurity risk in Europe and North America. The product may interest Microsoft-centered organizations seeking automated training and simulations, but buyers should verify the Entra ID dependency, privacy controls, integration coverage, pricing, and measurable evidence of behavior change before treating it as a fit.
