Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) really did launch free Generative AI training, but the first intake is over. The six-week online program began on December 1, 2024. PEC later reported results from its first cohort and activity for a third; the official material available here does not confirm that applications are open in 2026. Check PEC’s current notices before using an old registration link or paying anyone.
What PEC announced—and what happened next
PEC, Pakistan’s engineering regulator, launched the course with Pak Angels Silicon Valley USA, iCodeGuru and Aspire Pakistan. Its intended audience included PEC-registered engineers, engineering managers, university faculty and engineering students, as well as corporate sponsorship partners. The original announcement described six weeks of online training; this is a past program, not a newly announced 2026 intake. PEC’s completion notice confirms the first cohort took place.
PEC reported 18,000 applications for that first cohort, 5,000 participants and 1,258 people who qualified for certificates. Calculated from those reported figures, about 27.8% of applicants participated and about 25.2% of participants qualified. PEC does not define “qualified” in the cited notice, so that figure should not be treated as a published pass rate.
PEC’s chairman said the plan was to train 15,000 engineers across three cohorts within a year, with the second cohort expected to begin in March 2025. PEC later published an announcement about the third cohort, reporting 5,000 engineers registered. A target and later cohort notice are not proof that a new registration window is open now.

Was the course free?
PEC’s chairman said the Council would cover backend costs for the first three cohorts, making the training free for engineers. That describes the course fee under that arrangement; it does not remove the participant’s possible costs for internet access, a suitable device, time or any third-party tools used during training. Nor does it establish that every future cohort, if offered, will also be free. The chairman’s address provides the funding context.
What the training covered
PEC’s course promotional material described an applied introduction to Generative AI, generative models, hands-on projects, real-world case studies and live mentorship. It also emphasized using AI to improve efficiency, automate time-consuming work and build engineering applications with less traditional programming.

That description supports viewing the course as practical Generative AI and engineering-productivity training. The published material cited here does not establish that it was a comprehensive machine-learning engineering curriculum covering, for example, model pretraining or production-grade AI deployment. Anyone seeking deep technical specialization should check for a detailed syllabus, prerequisites, assessment method and instructor information before choosing a course.

Who was it for?
PEC’s description was broader than “Pakistani engineers” alone: it named PEC-registered engineers, engineering managers, university faculty and engineering students, and referred to corporate sponsorship partners. That does not mean every applicant in those groups was guaranteed a place; the first cohort had 5,000 participants from 18,000 applications. Confirm eligibility for any new intake in its own official notice rather than assuming the 2024 rules carry forward.
What did the certificate mean?
PEC said successful participants received a certificate with a unique, traceable QR code and described it as international or Silicon Valley-linked. It is best understood as a course-completion credential. It is not a university degree, a PEC engineering licence or evidence of guaranteed employment. The “internationally recognized” description is PEC’s characterization, not a guarantee that every employer or institution will accept it.
The available sources also do not establish that this particular course awards PEC CPD points. PEC’s general CPD portal describes Council training activity, but that alone does not confirm CPD credit for this course. Ask PEC or check the specific course notice if credit matters to you.
How to check whether a new intake is open
The official pages cited here confirm the launch, completion of the first cohort and later cohort activity, but do not establish a live 2026 registration form, deadline, fee schedule or eligibility notice. To check for a new opportunity:
- Start at the PEC website and review its current news and CPD information.
- Look for a notice that names the cohort, dates, deadline, eligibility requirements and organizer. Do not assume a page or QR code from a 2024 announcement is still valid.
- Use a registration link hosted on
pec.org.pkor a service PEC clearly identifies as official, such as cpd.pec.org.pk. If a partner-hosted form is used, verify it through a current PEC notice first. - Confirm whether sessions are live, recorded or mixed; what equipment and accounts are needed; and what attendance or assessment is required for a certificate.
- If anyone requests payment, identity documents or other sensitive information, verify the request directly through PEC’s official channels before proceeding. The original free offer does not authenticate a third-party page or a later fee request.
Is this course the right fit?
The stated focus makes the program relevant to engineers who want a practical introduction to Generative AI tools and possible productivity uses in engineering work. Online delivery can make training accessible beyond one campus or city, but participants still need reliable connectivity and a suitable device. The first cohort’s applicant and participant totals also show that demand exceeded available places.
