Palo Alto Networks reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $2.54 billion, up 16% year over year, while Next-Generation Security annual recurring revenue (ARR) rose 32% to $5.58 billion and remaining performance obligation (RPO) increased 24% to $15.8 billion. CEO Nikesh Arora credited the momentum in part to “platformization”—selling customers a broader, integrated set of security products. He also pointed to enterprise browsers as a potential control point for AI use at work. The results support the company’s growth case, but do not yet prove that browser security or AI products have become large standalone revenue engines.
What Palo Alto Networks reported for Q4 FY2025
The quarter ended July 31, 2025, and the company announced results on August 18. Revenue, recurring-revenue indicators, and contracted future business all grew, and each exceeded the company’s prior quarterly guidance range.

For the quarter, Palo Alto Networks reported GAAP net income of $253.8 million, or $0.36 per diluted share, and non-GAAP net income of $673.0 million, or $0.95 per diluted share. The earnings presentation also reported product revenue of $574 million and adjusted free cash flow of $954 million. Full-year FY2025 revenue was $9.2 billion, up 15%. These measures describe different things. Revenue is recognized sales for the period. ARR is a company-defined measure of recurring subscription revenue at an annualized rate; it is not revenue recognized in the quarter or cash collected. RPO represents contracted revenue yet to be recognized, rather than a promise that the whole balance will turn into revenue immediately. Bookings are another measure, reflecting business sold over a period, and should not be confused with revenue or profit.

Non-GAAP earnings exclude specified expenses under the company’s adjustments, so they are not interchangeable with GAAP results. The gap between $0.36 GAAP and $0.95 non-GAAP diluted EPS is material context for investors comparing profitability across companies or periods.
What “platformization” means—and what the quarter establishes
Platformization is a commercial and product strategy, not one product. Palo Alto Networks aims to sell multiple parts of its security portfolio to the same customer: network security and SASE, cloud security, security operations, AI security, and, as a strategic ambition, identity security. The pitch is that connected products can share data, controls, and workflows, while a customer manages fewer vendors and integrations. For the supplier, broader account coverage can mean larger contracts and more opportunity to expand or renew business.
Arora’s explanation was that enterprises increasingly want to consolidate fragmented security purchases into integrated platforms. The quarter’s strong revenue, ARR, RPO, and product-area indicators are consistent with that thesis. They do not, by themselves, establish that consolidation caused the growth, that every product is deeply integrated in customer environments, or that the strategy will deliver durable market-share gains and better margins. Those are longer-term propositions.

Evidence of demand across the portfolio
Palo Alto Networks’ earnings presentation offered several indicators of breadth. They are company-reported metrics, and they measure different things—bookings, revenue, ARR, customer counts, and operational results—so they should not be added together or treated as equivalent proof of adoption.
- Network security and SASE: Network Security product revenue grew 19% year over year. More than 60% of Q4 Network Security bookings came from SASE and software products. Network Security ARR was about $3.9 billion, up roughly 35%; SASE ARR grew 35%. The company reported approximately 6,350 SASE customers, up 18%, and said about one-third of Fortune 500 companies were customers.
- Large SASE transactions: The company cited deals exceeding $60 million, $55 million, and $40 million. These illustrate the scale of some wins, but a few large contracts do not show how typical customer economics or deployment outcomes look.
- Security operations and cloud: Combined Cortex and Prisma Cloud ARR was approximately $1.7 billion, up about 25%. XSIAM customers reached approximately 400, more than doubling year over year. Palo Alto Networks said more than 60% of XSIAM customers had median time to resolution below 10 minutes, based on company customer interviews and product telemetry.
- Software mix: The company linked network-security growth to a higher mix of software and SASE. This is relevant because a shift in product mix can affect the growth profile and economics, but the presentation’s figures do not isolate the resulting margin contribution.
For a customer, the practical test is not simply how many products appear on an invoice. It is whether telemetry and policies actually work across them, whether the products replace existing tools rather than sit alongside them, and whether implementation and operating costs fall without sacrificing specialist capability.
Why an enterprise browser could matter for AI security
Employees already use browsers to reach SaaS services, cloud consoles, internal web applications, and generative-AI tools. If AI agents increasingly operate through those same applications or browser sessions, the browser can become a useful place to enforce policy close to the user and the data interaction. Depending on the product and configuration, browser controls may govern access to applications, uploads and downloads, copying or printing, and interaction with AI services.

Arora’s argument was forward-looking: as enterprise computing becomes more browser-mediated, a secure browser can be an important part of the security stack. The company’s earnings-call remarks connected the browser opportunity to cloud workflows and AI agents. That is a strategic thesis, not evidence that the browser is replacing the operating system or that all AI activity will pass through a managed browser.
A browser is best understood as a complementary enforcement point, not a complete AI-security solution. It cannot alone fix compromised identities, overprivileged agents, vulnerable models or plugins, insecure APIs, cloud misconfigurations, or endpoint compromise outside its control. Nor can it reliably govern activity that moves to native applications, unmanaged devices, backend services, or APIs. The browser thesis is strongest where an organization can manage the browsers employees actually use and needs granular control over web-based work; it is weaker where those conditions do not hold or where controls create unacceptable usability or privacy friction.
What the six-million-seat disclosure does—and does not—show
The company said Prisma Access Browser had more than 6 million license seats, more than doubling sequentially, and cited continued browser traction as an FY2026 growth driver. Its presentation also discussed a large SASE deal covering 180,000 seats with Prisma Access Browser included.

These are license-seat figures, not a disclosed count of active users. The materials do not provide standalone browser revenue, paid-versus-trial status, renewal rates, customer concentration, or security-outcome data. Seat growth is a meaningful adoption signal, but it does not establish how intensively customers use the browser or how much it contributes financially.

Palo Alto Networks launched Prisma AIRS during Q4 and presented it as part of an emerging AI-security opportunity. It also cited a strong AIRS pipeline among expected FY2026 growth drivers, without disclosing a standalone AI-security revenue figure. - Security for AI: protecting AI applications, models, data, prompts, and agents, and governing the actions they take.
- Security for people using AI: controlling access to AI services and limiting sensitive-data exposure through browsers or other controls.
- AI for security: applying analytics and automation to detection and response, including security-operations tools such as XSIAM.
These capabilities have different products and maturity levels. AI-related risks include prompt injection, data exfiltration through assistants, overbroad agent permissions, compromised browser extensions, malicious file transfers, shadow AI use, model supply-chain weaknesses, and inadequate records of agent actions. Controls also need to avoid false positives that block legitimate work, and detection is not enough if a system cannot prevent or contain the underlying action.

Management also connected the proposed CyberArk acquisition, announced July 30, 2025, to a planned expansion into identity security. At the time of the Q4 report, the companies were described as independent until closing, and identity was framed as a next chapter rather than a completed integration. The earnings guidance did not include an anticipated acquisition impact. The company’s rationale was that AI agents and machine identities could make identity controls more important; that is a strategic argument, not proof of transaction completion or integration results. Details about the proposal appeared in the company’s SEC-filed materials.
What management expected in FY2026
As of the August 18, 2025 earnings announcement, Palo Alto Networks guided to the following FY2026 ranges. The guidance did not include any anticipated impact from the proposed CyberArk acquisition.

For Q1 FY2026, the company guided to revenue of $2.45B–$2.47B, Next-Generation Security ARR of $5.82B–$5.84B, RPO of $15.4B–$15.5B, and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $0.88–$0.90. These were forecasts, not reported results. The earnings-call event page provides the associated company materials.
What investors and security buyers should watch next
The Q4 results were strong, but the quality and durability of the platform story depend on what happens after bookings and licenses are reported. Useful evidence to watch includes:
- Cross-platform adoption: whether existing customers expand across product categories and whether deals replace competing tools rather than simply add a bundle.
- Conversion into durable business: how ARR and RPO growth translate into recognized revenue, renewals, and cash generation over time.
- Customer economics: whether fewer vendors and shared telemetry reduce operating costs enough to offset migration, implementation, and training burdens.
- Product integration and execution: whether controls and workflows genuinely connect, and whether sales, support, and integration keep pace with the breadth of the portfolio.
- Adoption beyond seat counts: active browser usage, renewals, revenue contribution, and demonstrable outcomes would clarify what the six-million-seat figure means in practice.
- AI demand and competition: whether AI-security demand becomes repeatable business, and whether customers prefer a broad platform or specialized best-of-breed tools.
Consolidation can reduce vendor count and simplify operations, but it can also increase lock-in and concentration risk, make it harder to select the strongest specialist in each category, and enlarge the impact of a configuration error or platform outage. A broad suite may also create complex migrations or hide the standalone competitiveness of products behind bundle terms. For buyers, the decision turns on existing infrastructure, device and browser coverage, AI-workload maturity, integration needs, and migration tolerance—not on platform breadth alone.
The reported growth and guidance beat demonstrate momentum, not causation. Palo Alto Networks’ platformization strategy has several supporting indicators, while the enterprise-browser opportunity remains more of a strategic bet than a separately measured business in these disclosures. For both investors and buyers, the key evidence will be sustained cross-product adoption and measurable customer outcomes, rather than larger contracts or license counts alone.
