Outtake announced a $40 million Series B on January 28, 2026, led by ICONIQ, to expand its platform for detecting and disrupting online impersonation and other identity-based threats. The New York startup says the funding will support hiring across engineering, product, and go-to-market teams as it responds to demand for digital-risk protection.

What the $40 million round includes

The Series B was led by ICONIQ, with CRV and S32 also participating. The announcement named a group of individual investors that includes Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora, Pershing Square CEO Bill Ackman, Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar, Anduril co-founder Trae Stephens, former OpenAI research executive Bob McGrew, Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch, and former AT&T CEO John Donovan. ICONIQ General Partner Murali Joshi is joining Outtake’s board, according to the company’s funding announcement.

The company has not disclosed a valuation, total capital raised, revenue, customer count, or a specific allocation of the new funds. It says the money will go toward product development and expansion of its engineering and go-to-market teams, including support for international demand.

What Outtake does

Outtake focuses on threats outside an organization’s own network: fake domains, cloned websites and apps, impersonation accounts, fraudulent advertisements, executive targeting, unauthorized resale, and other forms of online abuse. It is not an endpoint-security, identity-and-access-management, or SIEM provider. Its stated focus is protecting the identities and reputation of organizations and the people, products, and locations associated with them across the public internet.

The company describes its product as an “agentic” digital-risk-protection platform. Its proposed approach is to monitor online sources, connect suspicious artifacts to an organization’s brands and related entities, investigate links between them, and support response and takedown workflows. For example, a fake social account may be one element of a broader campaign that also includes a lookalike domain and fraudulent ads. Outtake’s pitch is that connecting those signals can be more useful than handling every alert as a separate incident.

Outtake’s platform materials describe an Entity Registry for mapping an organization’s brands, people, products, and locations; Agentic Search for monitoring digital surfaces; and a “Digital Reservoir” for suspicious assets, context, evidence, and takedown history. The company also describes threat graphing, narrative intelligence, adaptive workflows, and Recon Agent, which is intended to expand an investigation from an initial signal to related activity. These are company-described capabilities; they do not establish that every threat can be identified, linked to an operator, or removed.

Why AI is part of the investment thesis

Generative AI can make it easier to produce convincing text, images, audio, video, websites, and social profiles at scale. That can lower the effort needed to impersonate a person or organization, though it does not mean AI is responsible for every fraud or increase in online abuse. Outtake’s thesis is that organizations need to recognize coordinated campaigns across multiple digital surfaces, not just find individual fakes.

The company is also selling consolidation: a platform intended to bring together monitoring, investigation, threat context, and response that may otherwise be spread across specialist tools and internal teams. That is a commercial positioning claim, not independent proof that one platform will replace a buyer’s existing providers. A unified view may help reduce tool sprawl, but it also concentrates operational dependence on one vendor.

Reported activity and what the numbers show

Outtake says it processed more than 17 million alerts and completed more than 4 million investigations in 2025. It also reports a median takedown time of 18–36 hours for a “credible threat,” along with sixfold year-over-year annual recurring revenue growth, more than tenfold growth in enterprise customers, and headcount growth above 250%. The company has named OpenAI, Pershing Square, Fortescue, AppLovin, Fortune 500 companies, and federal agencies among its customers or institutions served; the announcement does not clarify the nature of every relationship.

These are company-reported figures, not independently benchmarked results. The announcement does not define what qualifies as an alert, an investigation, a credible threat, or a completed takedown, nor does it state when the takedown clock starts. A median also leaves out the slowest and most difficult cases. Outtake’s website separately says more than 90% of social takedowns are completed in under 24 hours. That narrower claim is not necessarily inconsistent with the 18–36-hour median, but the materials reviewed do not explain the populations or measurement methods behind the figures. Removing an account, ad, or domain also does not necessarily eliminate the operator, infrastructure, stolen credentials, or related campaign.

There is also an unresolved difference in the company’s reported alert volume: the formal funding announcement says more than 17 million alerts in 2025, while founder Alex Dhillon’s LinkedIn post says more than 20 million. Without a definition or reconciliation, the two figures should not be combined or treated as equivalent.

Where Outtake fits in an enterprise security program

Outtake appears to sit across digital-risk protection, brand protection, fraud intelligence, trust and safety, executive protection, and external attack-surface monitoring. A buyer might place it alongside IAM, EDR/XDR, SIEM/SOAR, fraud systems, security-awareness programs, domain monitoring, and legal or platform-enforcement processes—not assume it automatically replaces them.

For security and risk leaders, the operational question is whether a vendor can support the full response chain: discover an asset, determine whether it is malicious, relate it to other activity, prioritize the risk, preserve evidence, submit an effective removal request, escalate a rejection, confirm what was removed, and monitor for reappearance. Detection and attribution are distinct: finding a fake profile is not the same as proving who operates it.

Coverage also has limits. Public-web monitoring cannot be assumed to reach private groups, closed messaging channels, compromised internal systems, or every dark-web source. Buyers should verify which social networks, marketplaces, app stores, advertising channels, languages, and regions are included in their specific plan. The reviewed Outtake pages do not publish standard pricing and direct prospective customers to book a demo, so smaller organizations with a single narrow issue may find a focused monitoring or managed takedown service more proportionate.

Questions to ask before buying

  • Coverage: Which platforms, countries, languages, and threat types are monitored? Are executives, subsidiaries, products, and locations included?
  • Detection quality: What are the false-positive and false-negative rates, and how quickly are threats typically discovered? Can the system handle image, audio, and video impersonation as well as text?
  • Investigation: How does it connect related domains, accounts, ads, or infrastructure? What evidence supports a suspected campaign or attribution?
  • Response controls: Which takedowns can be submitted automatically, which require customer approval, and how are rejected requests escalated? Are actions logged and auditable?
  • Governance: What privacy, retention, data-location, access-control, and model-governance options are available? How are legitimate parody, criticism, fan activity, or reseller activity distinguished from abuse?
  • Operations and cost: What integrations, service levels, implementation work, and support are included? What is the subscription price, minimum commitment, and any volume or managed-service fee?

Prominent investors may draw attention to the category, but their participation does not establish product effectiveness, customer return on investment, or technical superiority. Those judgments require evidence such as independently verifiable customer outcomes, clearly defined service metrics, and testing against the organization’s actual threat environment.
