NVIDIA has not yet reported the results implied by the headline. Its fiscal second-quarter 2027 report is scheduled for August 26, 2026, covering the quarter ended July 26. The real pre-earnings question is whether Blackwell systems can sustain the company’s extraordinary growth while NVIDIA holds roughly 75% gross margins and manages China restrictions, supply constraints and the transition toward Vera Rubin.
NVIDIA’s official benchmark is $91.0 billion in revenue, plus or minus 2%. Investors will need to see more than a year-over-year increase: a convincing “smash” would require a beat to that outlook, strong next-quarter guidance and credible evidence that Blackwell-related demand is broad and durable.
What NVIDIA is reporting and when
NVIDIA’s fiscal Q2 2027 results are scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The quarter ended July 26, 2026; NVIDIA’s fiscal calendar does not match calendar quarters. The company’s conference call is set for 2 p.m. Pacific time (5 p.m. Eastern). NVIDIA says it will provide its press release, financial commentary, presentation, webcast and analyst question-and-answer session through its investor-relations site.

The last reported quarter set an unusually high bar
Fiscal Q1 2027 already showed exceptional momentum:
| Metric | Q1 FY27 | Year over year | Sequentially |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $81.615 billion | +85% | +20% |
| Data Center revenue | $75.2 billion | +92% | +21% |
| GAAP gross margin | 74.9% | — | — |
| Non-GAAP gross margin | 75.0% | — | — |
| GAAP diluted EPS | $2.39 | +214% | +36% |
| Non-GAAP diluted EPS | $1.87 | +140% | +18% |
These figures come from NVIDIA’s Q1 fiscal 2027 release. Because the comparison base is so large, another major year-over-year gain would not by itself prove that the company exceeded expectations. The key tests are the company’s own forecast, the outlook for the following quarter and the quality of the revenue mix.
NVIDIA’s official Q2 targets
NVIDIA guided to:
- Revenue: $91.0 billion, with a 2% range. That implies approximately $89.18 billion to $92.82 billion.
- Gross margin: about 74.9% GAAP and 75.0% non-GAAP, each with a 50-basis-point range.
- Operating expenses: approximately $8.5 billion GAAP and $8.3 billion non-GAAP.
- China assumption: no Data Center compute revenue from China was included in the outlook.
The $91 billion midpoint is the cleanest pre-results benchmark. After the report, calculate the revenue beat or miss against that midpoint, compare margins with the guide and examine whether fiscal Q3 guidance accelerates or decelerates.
What Blackwell can—and cannot—tell us
Blackwell is central to the growth story, but “Blackwell sales” is not automatically the same thing as NVIDIA’s total Data Center revenue. The platform can include:
- Data Center compute products and integrated Grace Blackwell systems;
- NVLink interconnects and InfiniBand;
- Spectrum-X Ethernet networking;
- Enterprise RTX PRO Blackwell systems; and
- related software, systems and rack-scale integration.
In Q1, NVIDIA said Data Center growth was driven by the ramp of its Blackwell 300 products as well as InfiniBand, Spectrum-X Ethernet and NVLink. Data Center compute revenue was $60.4 billion, up 77% year over year and 18% sequentially. Data Center networking revenue was $14.8 billion, up 199% year over year and 35% sequentially, under the company’s then-current reporting framework.

- WINDFORCE cooling system
Those numbers demonstrate powerful demand for NVIDIA’s broader infrastructure platform, but they do not prove that every dollar was generated by Blackwell GPUs. The new release should be read carefully for whether NVIDIA provides a discrete Blackwell figure, and whether that figure covers chips, complete systems, networking or the entire platform. If the company does not disclose a standalone number, a precise Blackwell revenue estimate cannot be responsibly reverse-engineered from total Data Center sales.
Why demand remains strong
NVIDIA and its customers are investing in several overlapping workloads:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- training increasingly capable foundation models;
- inference, including reasoning models that use more compute per answer;
- agentic AI and enterprise deployments;
- hyperscaler and cloud-service-provider expansion;
- sovereign AI projects; and
- the networking needed to connect very large GPU clusters.
These are demand drivers, not guarantees of future returns. Management’s statements about a long runway should be distinguished from independently verified evidence such as customer capital-expenditure plans, shipped systems and recognized revenue.
The margin test matters as much as revenue
A large revenue number is less impressive if it requires a sharp sacrifice in profitability. NVIDIA’s roughly 75% Q2 gross-margin target gives investors a way to test the economics of the ramp.
Watch product mix between compute, networking and complete rack-scale systems; advanced packaging and memory costs; supply-chain premiums; and any pricing concessions needed to accelerate shipments. Integrated systems can increase revenue per deployment while carrying a different cost profile from an individual accelerator.

Comparisons of adjusted earnings also require care. NVIDIA said that beginning in fiscal 2027 it would include stock-based compensation expense in its non-GAAP measures. Readers comparing adjusted EPS or margins with earlier periods should confirm that the accounting presentation is comparable. See the company’s fiscal 2026 results release for the policy change.

The signals to watch beyond the headline
- Fiscal Q3 guidance. A completed-quarter beat with weak forward guidance would not support an unqualified “smash” narrative.
- Supply and capacity. Listen for advanced-packaging availability, production rates, lead times and customer allocation.
- What customers are buying. Complete systems and racks may indicate a broader infrastructure build-out than isolated component orders.
- Training versus inference. A rising inference mix could broaden demand, but management’s characterization should not be treated as proof of application-level profitability.
- Blackwell Ultra and Vera Rubin timing. NVIDIA has introduced the Vera Rubin platform. That creates a normal product-transition question: are customers delaying orders, or are they continuing to buy Blackwell while adding next-generation capacity?
- Balance-sheet quality. Check inventory, receivables, customer commitments and concentration in the 10-Q rather than relying only on a backlog description.
Risks that could weaken the bullish interpretation
China and export controls
The Q2 outlook already excluded China Data Center compute revenue. The report should show whether that assumption changed, whether licenses or policy developments affected shipments and whether restrictions caused inventory or write-down risk. “No China revenue in the forecast” does not mean export controls have no financial effect.
Customer concentration
Large cloud providers account for a significant portion of accelerator demand. Strong sales can therefore reflect very high spending by a relatively small group of buyers. Concentration, receivables and purchase commitments matter when judging how diversified the boom is.
Supply-chain execution
NVIDIA depends on external manufacturing, advanced packaging, memory, assembly and system-integration partners. Orders become recognized revenue only when products can be produced, delivered and accepted.
Returns on AI infrastructure
GPU demand today, cloud capital expenditure, revenue from AI services and long-term return on invested capital are different measures. Strong orders do not establish that every AI infrastructure project will earn attractive returns.

Competition and custom silicon
AMD, hyperscaler-designed accelerators and custom inference chips remain strategic alternatives. NVIDIA’s CUDA software ecosystem and integrated platform can create switching costs, but those advantages should not be confused with proof that competitors cannot gain share.

A strong report would combine a clear revenue beat to the $91 billion midpoint, an EPS beat on a comparable basis, gross margins near or above guidance, positive fiscal Q3 guidance and specific evidence of Blackwell-related demand. It would be stronger still if supply is expanding without a significant margin sacrifice and demand is spread across compute, networking and systems rather than one unusually large order.
The headline would be misleading if it counted all Data Center revenue as Blackwell, treated a backlog as sales, repeated promotional demand claims as independent evidence, ignored China restrictions or celebrated a quarterly beat while next-quarter guidance fell below expectations.
Bull case and bear case
Bull case: Blackwell systems ramp on schedule, networking grows with each deployment, hyperscalers continue raising capital expenditure and NVIDIA maintains pricing power near 75% gross margins. A higher Q3 guide would suggest that demand is not merely a one-quarter catch-up.
Bear case: Revenue meets the guide only because of a concentrated order, margins compress as rack-scale costs rise, supply limits shipments, China restrictions create additional charges or customers defer purchases ahead of Vera Rubin. Longer term, custom silicon and uncertain AI monetization could challenge the spending cycle even if this quarter is strong.

Bottom line
Before August 26, the defensible conclusion is that NVIDIA is entering its next report with extraordinary momentum—not that it has already smashed earnings. Q1 revenue reached $81.615 billion, Data Center revenue reached $75.2 billion and management set a $91 billion Q2 target while assuming no China Data Center compute revenue. The report will validate the Blackwell thesis only if it shows that growth is translating into recognized revenue, stable margins and stronger forward guidance, with enough disclosure to separate Blackwell from NVIDIA’s wider Data Center platform.
