The UK Premier League TV deal covers the 2025/26 to 2028/29 seasons and is worth a reported £6.7 billion in total. Sky Sports carries at least 215 live matches per season, TNT Sports at least 52, and the BBC continues to show highlights. Amazon has no live UK package under this deal, and the Saturday 3pm blackout remains.
Who shows Premier League matches in the UK?
The rights are split between two live broadcasters, a highlights provider and no longer include Amazon’s former UK live package. The match totals below are minimums unless marked otherwise.

Sky and TNT’s minimum allocations add up to 267 matches. The league’s five-package tender allows up to 270 live matches in a season; “up to 270” is the overall ceiling, not a claim that the broadcasters have each guaranteed that number. A normal 20-team Premier League season has 380 matches, so the UK deal does not put every match on live television. The BBC’s report on the deal sets out the package totals.

What the £6.7bn deal covers
The agreement is for UK domestic live and highlights rights over four seasons, from 2025/26 through 2028/29. The Premier League announced a total value of £6.7bn, or about £1.675bn per season if the headline total is divided evenly. That is an arithmetic average, not evidence that the rights are priced or paid in identical annual instalments. The figure is for the UK deal, not the league’s worldwide broadcast rights.

The Premier League described the deal as a roughly 4% increase in live-rights value against the previous domestic cycle and said it would provide clubs and professional football with financial certainty until at least 2029. Those are the league’s characterisations of the agreement. Its announcement coverage also reported that the deal was the largest sports-media rights agreement concluded in the UK at the time.
The previous domestic cycle covered 2022/23 to 2024/25 after an extension during the Covid-19 period. Its reported value was about £5bn. In that cycle, Sky had a 128-match minimum, TNT’s predecessor BT Sport had 52, and Amazon carried 20 matches per season. BBC highlights continued then and continue now.

What Sky Sports has under the new deal
Sky won four of the five live packages, lifting its minimum from 128 to 215 matches per season—an increase of 87. It says this amounts to approximately 80% of televised matches. Its schedule includes the listed weekend and evening slots, three midweek rounds and every match on the final day. Sky is the main option for viewers seeking the largest share of live Premier League coverage, but it does not have every live match.

TNT retains at least 52 matches each season. Its package includes every Saturday 12:30pm kick-off and two midweek rounds, making it especially relevant to viewers who prioritise those slots. TNT coverage is available through its sports service and distribution on major TV platforms, with discovery+ used as a streaming route. The rights allocation does not, by itself, specify which retail subscription or contract a particular viewer needs; check the current provider terms before buying.

What happened to Amazon Prime Video?
Amazon showed 20 UK Premier League matches per season in the previous cycle but did not secure a live package for 2025/26 to 2028/29. The rights announcement establishes the change in UK coverage; it does not establish a detailed reason for Amazon’s bidding decision. This statement concerns the UK package only, not Amazon’s rights in other countries.
What the BBC still offers
The BBC retains free-to-air highlights rights, including Match of the Day, Match of the Day 2, Football Focus and digital highlights. It does not show live Premier League matches under this deal. For the BBC’s account of its continuing highlights coverage, see its coverage explainer.

Does the Saturday 3pm blackout still apply?
Yes. Premier League matches scheduled for the traditional Saturday 3pm window generally cannot be shown live on UK television. The blackout is a longstanding UK broadcast and scheduling rule intended to protect attendance at lower-league and non-league matches; it was retained, not newly introduced by this deal.
The restriction concerns UK live television. It does not mean a match is unavailable worldwide, and it does not determine whether radio or audio commentary is available. Highlights may also be shown later.

Are all Sunday 2pm matches televised?
Every match scheduled for the designated Sunday 2pm slot is included in the new UK live-rights structure. This is a change in coverage, not a promise that every match expected to be played on a Sunday will remain in that slot: individual kick-offs can be moved.
Which subscriptions do viewers need?
- Highlights only: Use BBC Sport and its highlights programmes; this is not a way to watch live matches.
- The largest share of live matches: Sky Sports has the highest minimum allocation and all 10 final-day matches.
- Saturday lunchtime matches: TNT Sports carries every Saturday 12:30pm kick-off.
- Every UK live match available under the deal: Viewers generally need access to both Sky Sports and TNT Sports; neither service alone has the full live allocation.
- Occasional viewing: Check each provider’s current purchase options and contract terms. Rights ownership does not guarantee a particular rolling, short-term or device-specific plan.
Prices and package terms can change independently of the rights deal. Sky’s official Premier League page displayed a £22-per-month Sky Sports offer requiring a 24-month Sky TV contract, as well as a new-customer Sky TV, Netflix and Sky Sports offer at £35 per month, subject to terms. Sky stated those page details were correct as of 6 May 2026; they are dated offers, not permanent prices. Check the current Sky offer and terms before subscribing. No current TNT consumer price is established here, so consult TNT or discovery+ directly rather than relying on an old figure. TNT’s rights announcement describes its UK agreement, not a fixed retail price.
What about Ireland and other countries?
The £6.7bn figure and broadcaster breakdown above describe the UK domestic agreement. The Republic of Ireland has its own rights arrangements: the Premier League’s rights information lists Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Premier Sports among relevant Irish rights holders. Irish viewers should check the Irish schedule and subscription terms rather than assuming the UK split applies unchanged.
International rights are sold by territory, so UK broadcaster availability and match access should not be assumed elsewhere. The Premier League’s 2025–28 broadcast-rights list identifies providers across territories. US viewers, for example, need to check the current US rights holder and package rather than use the UK £6.7bn deal as a guide.
Can a match be heard if it is not on TV?
Yes, television and audio rights are separate. For 2025/26 through 2028/29, the Premier League sold six UK live-audio packages to the BBC and talkSPORT. Two matches within each Saturday 3pm window are selected for audio broadcast; check the current schedule for the match available. Audio rights provide commentary, not live pictures.
