More than 250,000 signatures were reported on a Change.org petition calling for Roblox co-founder and CEO David Baszucki to resign on August 27–28, 2025. The campaign grew out of criticism over child safety, moderation and the banning of creator Schlep. It was a public pressure campaign—not a shareholder vote—and the available reporting does not show that Baszucki stepped down.
What the 250,000-signature figure means
Media reports said a Change.org petition seeking Baszucki’s resignation had passed 250,000 signatures in late August 2025. MediaPost reported the milestone on August 27, while the Times of India covered it on August 28.
That is a reported petition total at a particular time, not an independently audited count of Roblox users. The signers’ ages, countries and relationship with Roblox were not established by those reports, so “more than 250,000 petition signatures” is more precise than “250,000 fans.” Petition totals can also change or become inaccessible.

The petition and its supporters argued that the chief executive bears ultimate responsibility for Roblox’s safety and integrity. Their criticisms included:

- Claims that dangerous or sexually explicit material continued to circulate.
- Criticism that users and creators who raised safety concerns were punished rather than protected.
- The view that Roblox’s public explanations were too vague or corporate for a platform used heavily by children.
These are allegations and opinions attributed to petition organizers and critics, not judicial findings. A lawsuit or petition can document accusations and public anger without proving that every allegation is true.
How Schlep became central to the backlash
The campaign was closely associated with Schlep, a creator who said he was exposing alleged predators on Roblox. The Capitol Forum reported that the petition was posted on August 9, 2025, and that the Schlep controversy helped drive attention to it. Its account is available at The Capitol Forum.

Critics portrayed Schlep’s ban or threatened enforcement as evidence that Roblox was targeting people who exposed safety problems. Roblox’s rules create a competing explanation: the platform restricts sexually explicit conversations, impersonation-related conduct and some attempts to move users to outside services. The Capitol Forum described vigilante investigations that could involve impersonating children or taking conversations off-platform—activities Roblox could regard as rule violations and as creating additional risks.
The dispute therefore involves two separate questions. Roblox can be criticized for failing to detect or act on abuse while still enforcing rules against private investigations that may expose minors or spread prohibited content. The available reporting does not establish that Schlep’s allegations led to confirmed criminal findings, nor does it settle whether Roblox applied its rules fairly in that case.
Legal and regulatory pressure around Roblox
Contemporary coverage also linked the petition to lawsuits and broader scrutiny. One prominent action was a lawsuit filed by Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill in August 2025. Reports described allegations that Roblox lacked adequate safeguards and could be exploited by adults targeting minors.
A complaint is an allegation, not a verdict. Multiple lawsuits or complaints likewise do not automatically create a single, company-wide legal finding. The legal pressure explains why the petition attracted attention, but it does not independently prove the petition’s claims.

What Roblox has said and changed about safety
Roblox has continued to announce product and policy measures intended to reduce risks, including content ratings, age-related restrictions, moderation systems and voice-safety technology. In a 2026 newsroom announcement, Roblox said version 3 of its voice-safety classifier added policy-violation categories and expanded language support to 22 languages: Roblox newsroom.
Those announcements show ongoing investment, not proof that every safety problem was solved or that reports are handled promptly and consistently. Automated detection can supplement human review, but a technical feature does not by itself answer the concerns raised by petitioners.

The available coverage does not verify a detailed Roblox or Baszucki statement responding directly to the resignation petition. It is therefore more accurate to say that Roblox continued publishing safety initiatives than to say the company ignored the campaign.

No. Change.org signatures have no direct legal power to remove a chief executive. They can increase reputational pressure, attract media attention, influence regulators or investors and encourage a board to review management, but they do not constitute a binding corporate vote.
CEO employment is ordinarily governed by the company’s board, with shareholders exercising rights under corporate law and the company’s charter. Roblox’s 2025 SEC filing identifies Baszucki as the founder and CEO and describes founder-related governance provisions: SEC filing. Those provisions make governance context important, but the cited filing alone should not be read as a complete analysis of every current voting right.

Did Baszucki step down?
The available reporting does not show Baszucki resigning because of the petition. The cited 2025 corporate filing continued to identify him as Roblox’s founder and CEO, and Roblox was still issuing corporate and safety communications in 2026. No board decision, regulatory announcement or company statement in the supplied coverage confirms a leadership change resulting from the campaign.
The safest reading is that the petition demonstrated substantial online anger during a specific August 2025 controversy. It did not remove the CEO, prove every accusation against Roblox or establish that its signers represented the company’s entire user base.
