Microsoft announced two separate shopping features on November 13, 2023: Copilot in Microsoft Shopping, which helps shoppers discover products through a conversation, and AI Review Summaries, which condense themes from online product reviews. The shopping assistant was rolling out on PC first; Microsoft said mobile access would follow. Review Summaries were described as widely available and accessible through the Copilot icon in Edge’s sidebar.
Date note: The details below describe Microsoft’s November 2023 announcement. That announcement does not confirm that the same URL, interface, or availability remains in place in 2026.
What Copilot in Microsoft Shopping does
Copilot in Microsoft Shopping was designed to make product discovery conversational. Instead of starting with a string of keywords, a shopper could describe what they wanted, receive suggestions, and answer follow-up questions to narrow the options. Microsoft’s example was “what are some gift ideas for teenage boys?” The company said Copilot could ask questions to refine its ideas.
For example, a shopper might try prompts such as “Find noise-canceling headphones under $200 for commuting” or “What is a good beginner camera for travel?” These are illustrative prompts, not examples Microsoft verified in its announcement. As with any search, clear constraints—budget, intended use, size, or device compatibility—can help make results more relevant.

Microsoft announced the rollout as a way to help people find products, not as a guarantee that recommendations would be complete, suitable, or the lowest-priced. Product listings, availability, and prices can change; confirm the details with the retailer before buying.
How to access the shopping assistant
At launch, Microsoft directed users to bing.com/shop/ai. It said the experience could be used in any browser, while recommending Edge for the best combination of shopping features. The rollout began on PC, with mobile availability described as coming later; Microsoft did not give a specific mobile release date in the announcement.
Rank #2
- With 16 GB of memory, runs as many programs as you want without losing the execution
- The 13.5" 2256 x 1504 screen provides a great movie watching experience
- 512 GB SSD is enough to store your essential documents and files, favorite songs, movies and pictures
- 8 Hours battery run time helps you stay unwired and work longer non-stop
Treat that URL and device information as launch-time details, not confirmation of the current product. If the link no longer opens the same experience, start at Bing Shopping and check what is currently offered in your region.
What AI Review Summaries do—and do not do
Review Summaries are a separate feature from the conversational shopping assistant. Their purpose is to give shoppers a quick overview of recurring opinions and notable themes in online product reviews, rather than requiring them to read every review individually. Microsoft said users could select the Copilot icon in the Edge sidebar and ask it to summarize what people were saying about a product online.

A summary is a shortcut to the underlying feedback, not an independent product assessment. Microsoft’s announcement did not say that the feature verified whether reviews were genuine, representative, recent, or technically accurate. A summary can also make a common complaint sound more important—or less important—than it is for your particular needs. Read original reviews when details matter, especially where reviewers disagree or describe a problem relevant to your use.
Do not use a review summary as a substitute for star ratings, manufacturer specifications, independent testing, safety notices or recalls, or a retailer’s return and warranty terms. Check specifications against the manufacturer and confirm seller identity and the full cost at checkout, including shipping and taxes.

Why Microsoft recommended Edge
Edge was recommended, not required, for Copilot in Microsoft Shopping. Microsoft’s positioning was that Edge brought its broader shopping features together for a better experience and potential savings. That was promotional language, not a promise that Edge would find the lowest price or that every shopping tool would be available to every user.
The distinction matters: Microsoft said the shopping assistant itself could be used in any browser, while Edge offered the company’s preferred setting for combining its browser and shopping features. The announcement did not explain how product rankings, advertising, merchant placement, or any commercial relationships affected results.

Image-based shopping was still forthcoming
Microsoft said users would soon be able to share a picture of a product they were looking for. In the November 13, 2023 announcement, image input was presented as a future capability, not as a feature confirmed to be included in the initial rollout.
Practical checks before buying
- For irrelevant suggestions: Restate the request with a firm budget, use case, compatibility requirement, or other non-negotiable constraint.
- For missing products: Try a different description or search the product category directly; conversational results may not include every suitable option.
- For questionable specifications: Verify them on the manufacturer’s product page rather than relying on an AI answer or review summary.
- For conflicting review themes: Open original reviews and look for recent, specific accounts that match how you plan to use the product.
- For prices and availability: Confirm the live listing, seller, shipping, taxes, and total checkout price. A displayed price or answer can become stale.
- For an unavailable feature: Availability may differ by region, account, device, or later product changes. The 2023 announcement does not establish current access.
Microsoft’s primary announcement provides the verified launch details: its November 13, 2023 Edge blog post. Contemporary coverage also described the rollout as partial and PC-first: Thurrott’s report.
