Microsoft’s partner ecosystem is now called the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program (MAICPP). It is an umbrella for several different routes: partner benefit packages, capability-based Solutions Partner designations, software-company programs such as ISV Success, and the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program for reselling Microsoft cloud subscriptions.

Joining does not automatically authorize a company to resell subscriptions, earn incentives, or claim a designation. Those require separate offers, approvals, or eligibility. For a services partner, Microsoft currently documents US annual prices of $4,125 for Partner Success Expanded Benefits and $4,875 for a Solutions Partner designation, before applicable taxes. CSP has separate operational and revenue requirements. The sensible first step is to identify the route that matches your business, then check its current eligibility and offer details in Partner Center.

Microsoft’s partner program, in one view

MAICPP is the umbrella ecosystem for organizations that build, sell, support, train on, or develop software for Microsoft technologies. Its connected programs are not interchangeable:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Partner Launch Benefits: an entry-level benefits package for organizations starting a Microsoft cloud and AI practice.
  • Partner Success Core and Expanded Benefits: packages for services partners developing or expanding that practice.
  • Solutions Partner designations: recognition for demonstrated capability in one or more defined solution areas.
  • Specializations and certified software designations: more specific recognition layered on top of applicable designations or software eligibility.
  • ISV Success and related software programs: routes for companies building, publishing, and growing commercial software on Microsoft platforms.
  • Cloud Solution Provider (CSP): the commercial program for selling Microsoft cloud subscriptions, either through a distributor as an indirect reseller or directly as a direct-bill partner.

Microsoft describes the program and its current offers in its MAICPP membership overview and benefits guide. Benefits, prices, product editions, and eligibility can depend on geography, the offer, and its expiry terms.

Membership, benefits, designation and CSP authorization are different

Membership is the company’s participation in MAICPP. A benefits package supplies the particular software, cloud credits, support, training, or marketing entitlements attached to an offer. A Solutions Partner designation recognizes demonstrated capability in a solution area. A specialization is more specific expertise with additional requirements. CSP authorization is the separate status needed to transact Microsoft cloud subscriptions under CSP.

A company can be a MAICPP member without a designation, and it can hold a designation without being a direct-bill CSP partner. Buying partner benefits is also not the same as receiving customer-production licenses or permission to resell subscriptions. Check the terms for each offer and authorization rather than treating “Microsoft partner” as a single entitlement.

Choose the route that fits your business

Organization or goal Likely starting point What to evaluate
New or growing services practice Partner Launch or Partner Success Core Whether the internal-use software, credits, training, and go-to-market resources will actually be used.
Established services or training partner Partner Success Expanded; potentially a Solutions Partner designation Benefit value versus fee, customer evidence, staff certifications, and ability to maintain designation requirements.
Managed service provider, reseller, or systems integrator CSP indirect reseller if reselling cloud subscriptions Distributor terms and support, customer obligations, revenue threshold, security, and agreement requirements.
Large, mature CSP operator Assess direct bill only after meeting its prerequisites Revenue, indirect-reseller tenure, designation, support, security, billing, and operational capacity.
Commercial software company ISV Success and relevant software designation routes Product development and publishing needs, certification criteria, and software-specific benefits.
Training provider Partner Success offers and relevant partner requirements Whether the package and recognition fit the training business; Expanded Benefits is documented for services partners, including training partners.

A firm that only wants cheaper Microsoft licenses, without developing, selling, supporting, or publishing Microsoft-based solutions, may not be a good candidate. Do not buy a package just because its stated catalog value looks high: unused, irrelevant, or expiring entitlements do not create business value.

What the benefits packages provide

Partner Launch Benefits

Launch is positioned for smaller or newer partners beginning to build Microsoft cloud and AI capabilities. The FY26 benefits guide lists examples including Partner Marketing Center Pro, a Geo Expansion Readiness Assessment, $700 in annual Azure bulk credits, and specified entitlements for Microsoft 365 Business Premium, Entra ID P2, Microsoft Defender products, Dynamics 365, Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, Project, Visio, and Visual Studio.

  • With 16 GB of memory, runs as many programs as you want without losing the execution
  • The 13.5" 2256 x 1504 screen provides a great movie watching experience
  • 512 GB SSD is enough to store your essential documents and files, favorite songs, movies and pictures
  • 8 Hours battery run time helps you stay unwired and work longer non-stop

Those are examples, not a promise that every product or quantity applies to every member. License quantities, regional editions, activation rules, and expiry dates vary by offer. Consult the current benefits guide and the offer displayed for your Partner Center account before budgeting.

Partner Success Core and Expanded Benefits

Core is intended for partners developing a Microsoft practice; Expanded is a broader package for more established services partners seeking a larger portfolio of licenses, support, and related benefits. Microsoft currently documents the US annual price of Expanded as $4,125. Applicable taxes and local-currency pricing may change the amount, and Microsoft says only one Expanded package can be purchased per Partner Global account. See the Partner Success Expanded Benefits details for current terms.

Core pricing and availability should be checked in Partner Center for your geography rather than assumed from another market or an older article. Neither package by itself grants CSP resale authorization or a Solutions Partner designation.

Designation-linked benefits

Solutions Partner benefits are associated with the designation a company earns and can be additive to common benefits, subject to Microsoft’s offer rules. The current guide includes software licenses, Azure credits, support, marketing resources, and other benefits; the exact mix depends on designation and specialization. These entitlements have activation and expiry rules, so record the dates and use what is relevant while it is available.

Solutions Partner designations: six areas and a 70-point threshold

Microsoft has six Solutions Partner areas:

  • Data & AI
  • Digital & App Innovation
  • Infrastructure
  • Business Applications
  • Modern Work
  • Security

The model assesses performance, skilling, and customer success in the selected area. Microsoft’s stated threshold is a capability score of at least 70 out of 100, but 70 overall is not sufficient if the company misses a required category or subcategory minimum. The relevant measures and requirements are solution-area-specific; review the live score and eligibility details in the Solutions Partner FAQ and Partner Center dashboard.

Practical path to a designation

  1. Join MAICPP and complete company verification. Make sure legal information and the relevant Partner Location Account (PLA) are correct.
  2. Assign the appropriate Partner Center administrative roles so staff can view and manage membership and eligibility.
  3. Choose the solution area that matches actual customer work, not merely the label that sounds most attractive.
  4. Open the Solutions Partner dashboard and review performance, skilling, customer-success points, and any category-level gaps.
  5. Build the missing evidence: relevant certifications, customer deployments and outcomes, and usage or performance metrics as applicable.
  6. Monitor the eligibility window and score. Once eligible, purchase the associated designation benefits within the applicable process and fee terms.
  7. Calendar renewal. A designation is not a one-time badge: the company must continue to meet the requirements and complete renewal and payment within the renewal window.

Microsoft currently documents a US annual Solutions Partner Designation price of $4,875, plus applicable taxes; local currency and offer terms may differ. Its FAQ says that a partner meeting the requirements for subsequent Solutions Partner designations does not pay the designation fee again. That does not mean all designations have identical benefits or that requirements can be skipped. Confirm the amount and renewal status in Partner Center before purchase. Microsoft’s current information is in its designation FAQ.

Specializations are deeper proof, not just extra badges

A specialization generally requires an applicable Solutions Partner designation plus additional evidence. Depending on the specialization, requirements can include certifications, customer deployments, usage or consumption evidence, technical assessments or audits, security and operational controls, and continuing renewals. Microsoft-defined specializations cover particular workloads and capabilities; review the relevant requirements rather than assuming that holding a broad designation is enough. Certified software designations are a related but distinct route for eligible software products. See Microsoft’s overview of Solutions Partner and certified software designations.

CSP: how selling Microsoft cloud subscriptions works

CSP is the commercial-resale route, not a synonym for MAICPP membership. Its two models have materially different economics and obligations.

Indirect reseller: work through a distributor

An indirect reseller sells through a Microsoft-authorized distributor in a two-tier provider-reseller arrangement. The reseller retains the customer relationship; the distributor may provide billing, pricing and credit support, provisioning assistance, operational help, training, or marketing, depending on the provider. These services and commercial terms vary, so compare providers in your market rather than assuming they are interchangeable.

For FY26, Microsoft’s documented indirect-reseller requirements include:

  • Active MAICPP membership and a correctly associated Partner Location Account.
  • At least $1,000 in CSP transactional revenue in the preceding 12 months, measured at the reseller PLA level.
  • A designated security contact and compliance with mandatory Partner Center security requirements.
  • Acceptance of the Microsoft Partner Agreement (MPA).

These conditions do not amount to a general requirement that every indirect reseller hold a Solutions Partner designation. Check Microsoft’s current indirect reseller eligibility requirements and enrollment steps. The $1,000 figure is specific to the documented indirect-reseller requirement and should not be confused with the much higher direct-bill threshold.

Direct bill: substantially higher scale and responsibility

A direct-bill partner manages the end-to-end Microsoft and customer relationship rather than relying on an indirect provider for the same intermediary role. Microsoft’s current requirements include at least 12 months of prior CSP indirect-reseller experience, at least $1 million in eligible CSP revenue during the preceding 12 months at the Partner Global Account level, mandatory security compliance, at least one Solutions Partner designation, premium support, and other capability or assessment requirements.

Direct bill is therefore not simply an upgraded reseller switch. A company must be equipped to manage the operational, support, billing, security, and compliance burden. Review Microsoft’s new direct-partner requirements and direct-bill eligibility details before building a business case.

CSP security obligations are operational

CSP participation involves controls intended to protect partner and customer environments. Requirements include multifactor authentication for administrative users, a designated security contact, acceptance of the MPA, and annual validation of relevant requirements. Direct-bill documentation specifically requires responding to security alerts within 24 hours or less. Treat alerts and access controls as day-to-day operations, not a one-time enrollment form. See Microsoft’s MPA information and the current indirect and direct-bill requirements for the obligations that apply to your route.

Costs, incentives and whether the program pays off

Offer or route Current price information Best evaluated against
Partner Success Expanded Benefits $4,125 per year in the US, before applicable taxes Actual use of included software, support, and other benefits by an eligible services partner.
Solutions Partner designation $4,875 per year in the US, plus applicable taxes Eligibility, customer and skilling investment, designation-linked benefits, and ability to renew.

CSP indirect reseller Distributor-specific commercial terms Margin and provider services alongside customer-support and compliance costs.
CSP direct bill No simple membership-fee comparison Revenue scale and the cost of operating billing, support, security, and compliance directly.

The US prices are documented signals, not universal global quotes. Local currency, taxes, fiscal-year changes, and Partner Center offers matter. Microsoft’s FY26 benefits refresh took effect February 13, 2026; Microsoft says it added AI, cloud, and security benefits, changed some older benefits, and increased pricing by approximately 1% to 3.5% across several offers. Check the current benefits FAQ and guide before relying on older license lists or price claims.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Also separate benefits from incentives. Benefits are resources such as licenses, credits, support, or training. Incentives are commercial payments or program rewards tied to specific requirements that can depend on partner eligibility, location, product, solution area, customer activity, performance, and fiscal year. Buying benefits does not guarantee rebates or incentives. Check the current incentive core requirements and your Partner Center status instead of relying on old “rebate” summaries.

To estimate value, count only entitlements your staff will activate and use. Compare the fee with the cost of the relevant products or support you would otherwise buy, while accounting for eligibility, activation limits, expirations, and any regional product-edition differences. Do not value every license at list price if the company has no use for it, cannot use it for customer production, or will let it expire unused.

What older Microsoft partner advice gets wrong

  • Silver and gold are not the current entry route. Microsoft retired legacy competencies on September 30, 2022, and stopped selling or renewing legacy silver/gold benefits after January 21, 2025. Use current Partner Success and Solutions Partner terms instead.
  • Membership is not a bundle of free licenses. Entitlements depend on the benefit offer purchased or earned and its terms.
  • A designation does not automatically generate leads or rebates. Referrals and incentives depend on current programs, eligibility, geography, solution fit, and other rules.
  • Seventy points alone do not guarantee a designation. Required category and subcategory thresholds also apply.
  • Not every designation has a separate fee. Microsoft says subsequent designations can be attained without paying the fee again after requirements are met; check current benefit and renewal rules.
  • Indirect and direct bill are not comparable thresholds. The cited FY26 figures are $1,000 of trailing-12-month CSP transactional revenue at the reseller PLA for indirect eligibility and $1 million of eligible trailing-12-month CSP revenue at the Partner Global Account for direct bill, which also requires prior indirect tenure and other criteria.
  • Benefits are not static. Product editions, regional availability, activation deadlines, prices, and expiry dates can change. Benefits are tied to membership or specialization expiry, and Microsoft says software benefits are not retrofitted in the same way as some new or increased benefits for eligible active memberships.

Starting checklist in Partner Center

  1. Create or verify the organization’s work account and complete business verification.
  2. Confirm legal information, Partner Global Account details, and the correct Partner Location Account for the intended market and CSP activity.
  3. Assign the right Partner Center admin roles; verify who can manage benefits, agreements, security, and membership.
  4. Choose the relevant path: benefits package, Solutions Partner solution area, software program, or CSP enrollment. These can coexist, but one does not automatically grant the others.
  5. If pursuing a designation, inspect the score dashboard and map gaps in performance, skilling, customer success, and subcategory requirements before paying.
  6. If pursuing CSP, compare authorized distributors if starting indirectly, validate the relevant revenue and security requirements, and accept the MPA in Partner Center.
  7. Record fees, renewal windows, benefit activation and expiry dates, and annual security validations. Recheck requirements and incentive eligibility as Microsoft updates them.

For official enrollment and account basics, use Microsoft’s membership overview and the current Partner Center program pages. Because CSP requirements, benefit catalogs, and incentives may change independently, check the exact offer and authorization status in your account before committing budget or promising a customer a capability.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
