Memorial Day 2025 brought reported discounts of up to $500 on selected Apple Mac mini models at Amazon and B&H Photo. The promotion was reported on May 21, 2025, and is historical—not a currently verified offer. The largest discount applied to a $3,899 M4 Pro configuration with 64GB of memory and 8TB of storage; mainstream M4 models received $50 to $100 discounts.

There is a discrepancy in the original report: its summary said prices started at $529, while its deal table listed the base 16GB/256GB Mac mini at $549. The table above uses the configuration and price shown in that reported deal table.

The headline maximum was accurate as a description of the largest reported dollar discount, but it was not representative of the typical buyer’s savings. The entry-level M4 was listed at $50 off, while the other mainstream M4 configurations were discounted by $70 and $100.

The $500 saving applied to an unusually expensive M4 Pro system with 64GB of unified memory and 8TB of internal storage. It was designed for specialized professional workloads, not ordinary browsing, office work, schoolwork, or streaming. A larger dollar discount does not automatically make that configuration the best value.
Which Mac mini configuration made the most sense?
Best for basic use: M4, 16GB/256GB
The base M4 is suitable for web browsing, office applications, schoolwork, coding, media playback, photo management, and general macOS use. It was the lowest-cost option in the reported promotion.
Its 256GB SSD is the main compromise. It can fill quickly with large photo libraries, video projects, games, or virtual machines. It makes the most sense for buyers who already have external storage or primarily use cloud services.

Best general-purpose upgrade: M4, 24GB/512GB
The reported $899 configuration offered more practical headroom for heavy multitasking, development tools, creative applications, and long desktop sessions. For many buyers, the additional memory and 512GB of storage were more useful than chasing the lowest possible entry price.

Because Apple silicon uses unified memory shared by the CPU, GPU, and system functions, memory should be chosen carefully. Buyers should not assume they can later install more RAM through a conventional upgrade.
Best for professional workloads: M4 Pro
The M4 Pro is aimed at video editors, 3D artists, developers compiling large projects, users running multiple virtual machines or containers, and other workflows that can use sustained CPU and GPU performance. It also provides faster Thunderbolt connectivity than the M4 model.
For ordinary productivity, the extra cost may not produce a noticeable benefit. The right choice depends on the applications and workload, not simply the presence of the “Pro” label.
Who needs 64GB and 8TB?
The $3,899 system is appropriate only when a workload can genuinely use both capacities—such as large local media libraries, high-end video production, large software projects, or professional graphics and 3D work. Most buyers should treat it as a specialist workstation configuration rather than a bargain.

What the M4 Mac mini includes
Apple introduced this Mac mini generation in 2024. According to Apple’s technical specifications, the M4 has a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, and 120GB/s memory bandwidth. The cited M4 Pro specification has a 12-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, and 273GB/s memory bandwidth.
The M4 starts with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage, with options up to 32GB and 2TB. The M4 Pro starts with 24GB and 512GB, with options up to 64GB and 8TB. The redesigned computer measures about five by five inches, according to Apple.
Ports include HDMI, Ethernet, a headphone jack, USB-C connections, and Thunderbolt ports. The M4 has three Thunderbolt 4 ports; M4 Pro models have three Thunderbolt 5 ports. USB-C does not automatically mean every port has identical display, transfer-speed, or Thunderbolt capabilities.

Display and connectivity checks
Before buying, verify the exact display arrangement Apple supports for the chosen model. Apple’s specifications cover combinations involving 6K, 5K, 8K, and 4K displays, but the number of screens, resolution, refresh rate, and connector type matter.

The Mac mini is not a complete computer setup
The Mac mini is a compact desktop, not an all-in-one. Buyers generally need a monitor, keyboard, mouse or trackpad, and possibly speakers or headphones. A webcam, hub, display adapter, and external SSD may also be necessary.
This matters for personal-finance decisions. A discounted Mac mini may be excellent value for someone who already owns a display and peripherals, but a laptop could be cheaper overall for a first-time computer buyer who also needs a screen, keyboard, camera, and portability.
Mac mini buying checklist
- Confirm the exact configuration. Check the chip, memory, storage, and model identifier.
- Check the condition. Make sure the listing is new rather than refurbished or open-box unless that is what you want.
- Check the seller. On Amazon, review the “sold by” and “shipped by” information, especially for marketplace listings.
- Review warranty and returns. Compare retailer policies, shipping charges, tax, and return deadlines.
- Verify the price at checkout. Promotional pricing can change with inventory, seller, configuration, or location.
- Budget for accessories. Include a display, input devices, adapters, storage, and any dock or hub.
Alternatives to consider
A new Mac mini from Apple offers direct support and the standard warranty, but Apple’s currently surfaced U.S. purchase pages showed M4 models from $799 and M4 Pro models from $1,399—not the historical Memorial Day prices above.

Apple Certified Refurbished can reduce the cost when the required configuration is available. The cited Apple refurbished listing included a one-year limited warranty and 14-day returns, though terms and inventory vary by product.
A MacBook Air is a better fit when portability, a built-in display, keyboard, battery, and webcam matter. A MacBook Pro suits buyers who need a built-in high-quality display and sustained professional performance. Windows mini PCs may be preferable for buyers who need Windows-only software, upgradeable components, broader gaming compatibility, or easier hardware servicing; specific prices and performance should be checked separately.

The Memorial Day 2025 promotion was a real reported deal, but the “up to $500 off” figure needs context. Most shoppers were looking at savings of $50 to $150, while the maximum discount applied to a $3,899, 64GB/8TB M4 Pro system. For ordinary use, the base M4 was the economical choice; buyers with heavier multitasking needs had a stronger case for 24GB of memory and 512GB of storage. Since Memorial Day 2025 has passed, check current retailer listings rather than assuming these prices remain available.
