Shopsy was a Pakistani shopping-search and price-comparison platform: it gathered product listings from online retailers, let shoppers compare options, then sent them to a retailer to complete the purchase. It was not a conventional marketplace handling every order itself. In October 2022, the company announced that Shopsy was becoming Prislo; the old Shopsy.pk domain was later reported offline, so Shopsy is best understood as a former brand rather than a currently verified standalone service.
The story is useful beyond its “Google for shopping” shorthand. Shopsy tried to make a fragmented retail market easier to search, while building a business around referrals rather than inventory. Its evolution also shows why a comparison engine’s product count is only part of the challenge: prices, stock, product variants, and retailer terms must be accurate enough to make a comparison trustworthy.
What Shopsy did
Shopsy set out to solve a familiar shopping problem: a customer looking for one product might have to search several Pakistani online stores separately, compare different listings, and work out whether they were actually looking at the same model. Shopsy aimed to put those listings into one searchable interface. Its original profile used a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge search as an example, showing versions from multiple stores together. TechJuice’s 2017 profile described the service as a way to discover products across partner websites.
“Google for online shopping” is a catchy analogy, not a literal description. Shopsy was a vertical shopping-search and price-comparison service focused on retail partners, not a general web search engine. Nor was it necessarily the seller: the usual journey was:

- Search for a product on Shopsy.
- Browse aggregated listings drawn from partner retailers.
- Compare prices and available product options, with filters such as a price range.
- Click through to a retailer’s listing.
- Buy from the retailer, which handled checkout and, in general, the transaction’s fulfillment.
That handoff matters. Shopsy could help a shopper find and compare an offer, but the retailer—not Shopsy—was typically responsible for payment, delivery, returns, and after-sales service. Shopsy therefore acted as a discovery and referral layer between consumers and stores.
How its search technology was supposed to work
The 2017 account said Shopsy used a web crawler to collect product information from partner sites and a ranking algorithm that considered more than 14 factors. In practical terms, a shopping-search system has to do more than find pages. It must extract details such as product names, prices, images, categories, and specifications; normalize inconsistent descriptions; match listings that refer to the same item; and rank results so a useful option appears near the top.
Later descriptions from the company emphasized machine learning, artificial intelligence, and unsupervised algorithms for structuring product data from the web. Those are company descriptions of its approach, not independently verified technical evaluations. The 2017 profile specifically refers to partner sites; it would be an overstatement to say Shopsy crawled the entire Pakistani internet.
For shoppers, the difficult part is not just finding a low price. One retailer may describe a phone by its model number, another by its marketing name, and a third by a shortened title. A listing can also differ in storage, color, warranty, condition, or regional variant. If a search engine groups non-identical products or fails to update a price after it changes, its comparison can mislead even when the page looks polished. Retailer websites can change their layouts too, disrupting automated extraction. Keeping listings matched and current is an ongoing data-quality problem, not a one-time indexing task.

TechJuice reported that Shopsy’s beta launched in November 2016—the profile, published in May 2017, says November of the previous year. It identified the original co-founders as Usama Arjumand, Akhter, and Saad; it did not give full names for Akhter or Saad. Later company and press accounts describe Arjumand as co-founder and CEO and identify Faraz Khalid and Sanjay Kumar as co-founders involved in a later scaling phase. These descriptions point to an evolving team narrative, so the later names should not silently replace the names reported at launch.
Rank #2
A later company-history profile says Arjumand studied mechanical engineering at the University of Nottingham, worked in the UK, then returned to Islamabad. He has described conceiving Shopsy after finding the range of online products in Pakistan limited compared with what he had experienced in the UK. That origin story fits the product’s central premise: online shopping needed a better discovery layer if customers were to find the range already spread across local stores.
The early numbers and affiliate business model
At the time of the 2017 profile, Shopsy was described as having more than 100,000 products from 20 partner sites and close to 10,000 monthly visitors. The article also said orders worth more than PKR 1.4 million had been generated through two exclusive deals. These are historical figures reported at the time, not current metrics or independently audited results.
The initial revenue model was affiliate marketing. Shopsy referred a shopper to a participating retailer; if the referral resulted in a purchase, Shopsy could receive a commission or cut. Retailers gained a potential customer-acquisition channel, while Shopsy could offer broad selection without buying stock, running warehouses, or managing deliveries itself.
The trade-off is that a referral platform depends on the businesses it lists. Retailers control commission terms and checkout, and Shopsy could not guarantee what happened after a customer clicked through. A comparison site also has to pay for crawling, product matching, and data maintenance, while referral revenue depends on shoppers actually buying and on the retailer correctly attributing the sale. The 2017 profile included future targets of 2.8 million annual visitors and 300,000 monthly visitors after investment; those were goals, not evidence that the targets were achieved. The profile does not establish conversion rates, profitability, customer retention, or commission revenue.
Telenor Velocity’s role
Shopsy took part in the second cohort of Telenor Velocity, an accelerator. Accounts of the program describe mentoring, access to online-payment solutions, and the possibility of reaching Telenor Pakistan’s subscriber base. The 2017 Shopsy profile says the startup used Telenor channels, including SMS promotions and the Wowbox lifestyle app, to promote exclusive deals. It also credited the program with increasing site activity and providing analytics useful for customer profiling and marketing.
This was an accelerator and distribution relationship, not evidence that Telenor owned Shopsy or guaranteed its success. For an early shopping-search startup, access to a large promotional channel could help attract shoppers; it could not, by itself, ensure that those shoppers returned or that referrals became profitable purchases.
From a small beta to a larger platform
Later figures suggest the platform expanded substantially, although the numbers come largely from company materials and secondary reporting rather than audited disclosures. They should be read as claims attributed to their dates, not as a perfectly comparable series: product counts can change with how duplicates and variants are counted, while “users” may be measured in different ways.

For the 2021 voice-search feature, reporting said users could speak searches through Chrome on desktop and Android, and that the feature was designed to recognize different local accents. The same report described partial Urdu understanding, with full native Urdu support as a future goal. This is a snapshot of what was announced then; it does not establish that the feature remains available today.
The October 2021 influencer program reportedly let people with more than 1,000 followers create product collections or stores, share personalized links, and earn commissions when those links generated sales. The company said it would handle logistics and customer service through partner stores, while influencers could view expected earnings and receive monthly bank payments. Those statements describe the announced program; available reporting does not independently verify payout reliability, commission rates, or typical influencer earnings.

A lower displayed price is only one part of the purchase. Before clicking through, a shopper should check that the listing is for the exact product and variant—including storage, color, condition, and warranty—and compare the full cost and terms. In particular, check:
Rank #4
- delivery charges and whether the retailer delivers to your location;
- cash-on-delivery availability, if that matters to you;
- the warranty and whether the seller is an authorized dealer;
- the retailer’s return and exchange policy;
- seller reputation and product authenticity;
- delivery estimates, and whether the displayed price depends on a promotion or payment method.
Prices and stock can change between indexing and checkout. A comparison engine can reduce the work of finding options, but it cannot make every partner listing current or guarantee each retailer’s service quality. That limitation is inherent in the handoff model: shoppers still need to assess the store they are buying from.

On October 19, 2022, Shopsy announced it was rebranding as Prislo.com as part of a plan to expand into international markets. The announcement said the Shopsy.com name was unavailable and presented Prislo as a new identity for technology intended to scale beyond Pakistan. It reported 1.2 million monthly users, 8.5 million products, and 360 Pakistani online stores at the time. These were company-reported scale figures.
The available evidence supports describing Shopsy as Prislo’s predecessor brand, not as a separate service currently confirmed to be operating. A third-party domain-status report said Shopsy.pk was offline on July 2, 2026; AppBrain records indicate the Shopsy Android app was removed from Google Play in October 2022. Prislo’s LinkedIn company profile remained publicly associated with Usama Arjumand and shopping search and price comparison. Together with the 2022 rebrand announcement, these clues point to a transition of brand, but they do not establish that Prislo is operating at its former scale today—or that the company has definitively closed.
Why the experiment matters
Shopsy’s history illustrates the opportunity and the hard part of building a marketplace-adjacent business in a fragmented retail market. Aggregation can make scattered choices easier to discover and give retailers another route to customers without requiring the aggregator to own inventory. But a large product index alone does not make comparisons useful: the platform also needs retailer coverage, accurate matching, fresh prices and stock, relevant ranking, and enough consumer trust to turn search into qualified referrals.
It also clarifies what comparison platforms do—and do not—control. Shopsy could organize discovery, potentially monetize referrals, and later experiment with voice search or influencer collections. The retailer remained central to the transaction. The old “Google for shopping” description captured the ambition of searchable, centralized discovery; the more precise description is a shopping-search and price-comparison layer whose value depended on the quality of its data and the reliability of its retail partners.
Historical figures in this account are attributed to contemporaneous profiles, company descriptions, or reporting. Later scale and user totals were not presented with an independent audit or consistent measurement methodology.
