MediaTek did not publicly launch a standalone Windows PC chip in late 2025 as Reuters sources had projected. The June 2024 report described an unconfirmed Arm-based processor for Windows AI laptops. MediaTek’s first clearly documented move into this market came later, through its collaboration with NVIDIA on the RTX Spark Windows 11 platform, announced in 2026.
That makes the original report directionally significant but not a confirmed 2025 product launch. RTX Spark may be the commercial outcome—or an evolution—of the earlier project, but neither company has said that it is the exact chip Reuters described.
What Reuters reported in 2024
On June 11, 2024, Reuters reported that MediaTek was developing an Arm-based chip for Microsoft Windows PCs. The report cited three people familiar with the project.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The key details were:
- It was a reported development project, not an official product announcement.
- The chip was intended for Windows PCs, particularly AI-focused laptops.
- Sources projected a launch in late 2025.
- MediaTek and Microsoft did not comment to Reuters.
- The timing was reportedly connected to the end of a Qualcomm exclusivity arrangement for Windows-compatible Arm PC chips.
Those distinctions matter. “MediaTek Windows chip launching in 2025” was shorthand for a reported plan—not evidence that a named processor, laptop model, price, or retail launch had been confirmed.

Why 2025 mattered
Windows on Arm had historically been closely associated with Qualcomm. Reuters reported that Microsoft had granted Qualcomm exclusivity until 2024, although the existence and precise terms of that arrangement were not officially confirmed in the sources reviewed.
If that reported arrangement ended or became less restrictive, other chip designers could compete for Windows-on-Arm hardware. For Microsoft, additional suppliers could reduce dependence on one platform partner. For PC manufacturers, it could create more choices in processor performance, pricing, connectivity, and power efficiency.
MediaTek was a logical potential entrant because its system-on-chip business already combines processing, graphics, connectivity, memory control, and power-management functions in smartphones, tablets, Chromebooks, and embedded products. An Arm-based Windows design could have offered PC makers another integrated platform, potentially including cellular and wireless connectivity.

However, Reuters did not confirm the rumored chip’s CPU cores, GPU, manufacturing process, modem support, NPU performance, battery life, or price. Those specifications should not be retroactively attributed to the 2024 project.
What happened to the expected late-2025 launch?
The reported late-2025 release did not appear in the reviewed official sources as a confirmed standalone MediaTek-branded Windows processor or retail product.
That does not prove the project was canceled. The available evidence is consistent with several possibilities: a delay, a change in branding, a restructuring of the design, or an evolution into a partnership with another company. There is no official confirmation that explains which of those occurred.
The next major public development arrived in 2026, when NVIDIA and Microsoft announced RTX Spark and MediaTek separately confirmed its role in the platform.

RTX Spark is the confirmed MediaTek Windows connection
On May 31, 2026, NVIDIA and Microsoft announced RTX Spark as a new Windows 11 PC platform. MediaTek described its collaboration with NVIDIA on June 1 in an official announcement.
RTX Spark combines an Arm-based CPU platform with NVIDIA Blackwell RTX graphics. It is designed for Windows 11 laptops and compact desktops, with an emphasis on local artificial intelligence, gaming, content creation, and other demanding workloads.
According to MediaTek’s product materials, RTX Spark supports up to:
- 20 CPU cores;
- 6,144 CUDA cores;
- 128GB of unified memory; and
- 1 petaflop of FP4 AI performance.
These are vendor-stated maximums, not independent benchmark results. The platform is also not positioned as a conventional low-cost laptop processor. Its combination of a high-end NVIDIA GPU, CUDA support, large unified-memory configurations, and local-AI capabilities makes it closer in concept to a premium creator PC, compact workstation, or AI development system.

What MediaTek contributes
MediaTek says its contributions include:
- Collaboration on the custom CPU design;
- the memory controller;
- power-management technology; and
- connectivity integration.
NVIDIA describes the processor as using a 20-core NVIDIA Grace CPU developed in collaboration with MediaTek. NVIDIA event materials also refer to the platform as N1X developed in partnership with MediaTek.
That confirms a substantial MediaTek role, but it does not establish that RTX Spark is the identical product Reuters’ sources discussed in 2024. The earlier report referred to a MediaTek PC chip, while the confirmed product is presented as an NVIDIA platform jointly developed with MediaTek and Microsoft. The 2025 timing also did not occur as publicly described, and the 2024 report did not identify NVIDIA as a confirmed partner.
When will RTX Spark PCs be available?
NVIDIA said the first RTX Spark laptops and desktops were expected in fall 2026. As of the latest information in the supplied reporting, that was a forward-looking availability statement, not proof that systems were already shipping.

Microsoft listed Surface, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and MSI among the ecosystem partners, with Acer and GIGABYTE mentioned as following later. Microsoft also announced a Surface RTX Spark Dev Box aimed at developers, but the reviewed announcement did not establish a confirmed public price or purchase path.
No verified retail price should be assumed until manufacturers publish final configurations, regional availability, warranty terms, and shipping information.
Why Windows on Arm compatibility still matters
An Arm processor can run Windows, but that does not guarantee that every Windows application, game, driver, or peripheral will work identically to an x86 PC.
Windows on Arm supports applications compiled natively for Arm and can emulate many 32-bit and 64-bit x86 applications. Microsoft said Prism would be optimized for RTX Spark-powered PCs.
Compatibility nevertheless depends on:
- whether the application is native Arm or emulated;
- driver availability;
- plug-ins and VPN clients;
- enterprise-management tools;
- specialized peripherals;
- game launchers; and
- anti-cheat software.
A game may launch under emulation but fail because its anti-cheat system does not support the platform. A professional application may run while a required plug-in or hardware driver does not. A powerful NVIDIA GPU can improve graphics and AI workloads, but it cannot automatically solve CPU, driver, or application-compatibility limitations.

Qualcomm
A shipping MediaTek-backed Windows platform would give Qualcomm a more direct Arm competitor. Qualcomm remains the established Windows-on-Arm supplier in the available context, but additional silicon options could give PC makers more negotiating leverage and more freedom to target different price and performance segments.
Intel and AMD
Intel and AMD continue to anchor the traditional x86 Windows market. Arm platforms challenge them primarily on performance per watt, integrated system design, connectivity, and local AI—not simply on headline processor speed. The real competitive effect will depend on shipping products, software support, pricing, and independent testing.

NVIDIA
RTX Spark gives NVIDIA a route into a more complete Windows PC platform. Rather than supplying only discrete graphics, NVIDIA is combining its Blackwell GPU technology with an Arm CPU design and a partner ecosystem. That could strengthen NVIDIA’s position among AI developers, creators, and high-end PC users, although actual market impact cannot be determined from announcements alone.
Apple
Apple’s vertically integrated Arm Macs remain an important reference point for efficiency and software coordination. RTX Spark is different: it is intended for the broader Windows ecosystem, where compatibility across many OEMs, applications, peripherals, and enterprise environments is a central challenge.
Microsoft
Microsoft benefits from having more potential silicon suppliers for Windows on Arm. Its role extends beyond licensing Windows: it must coordinate operating-system support, Prism emulation, drivers, security, developer tools, and OEM optimization. Microsoft’s participation in RTX Spark suggests that platform-level software integration will be as important as the silicon itself.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.What buyers should check before considering an RTX Spark PC
Until systems ship and independent reviews are available, buyers should treat RTX Spark as an announced platform rather than a proven purchase recommendation.
- Confirm availability. Check whether a specific model is shipping in your country or is only listed as coming soon.
- Check the exact software stack. Verify that essential applications, plug-ins, VPNs, drivers, peripherals, and enterprise tools support Arm Windows.
- Check games individually. Confirm launcher, anti-cheat, controller, and driver compatibility for the titles you actually play.
- Understand unified memory. The advertised memory is shared by the CPU and GPU. It is not equivalent to conventional system RAM plus separate dedicated VRAM.
- Demand independent testing. Vendor claims such as AI performance or all-day battery life are not substitutes for measured battery, thermal, application, and gaming results.
- Compare the total system cost. A compact desktop may require a separate display, keyboard, storage, and other accessories. A high-memory workstation may be unnecessary for ordinary office work.
What the original report got right—and wrong
The 2024 report appears to have been directionally correct that MediaTek was exploring a role in Windows PCs and that the market could broaden beyond Qualcomm. It was not confirmed as a product announcement, however, and the projected late-2025 launch did not materialize publicly as described.
The later RTX Spark announcement provides a plausible real-world continuation of that story: MediaTek is officially involved in an Arm-based Windows PC platform. But the evidence does not support saying that MediaTek launched its rumored chip in 2025, that the project was canceled, or that RTX Spark is definitely the same chip.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: MediaTek’s reported 2025 Windows chip was a credible but unconfirmed Reuters report, not a verified launch. The public development that followed was the 2026 NVIDIA RTX Spark platform, where MediaTek contributes to the CPU design, memory controller, power management, and connectivity. RTX Spark may be related to the earlier project, but its final availability, pricing, compatibility, and real-world performance must be judged from shipping systems and independent reviews.
