These were historical Memorial Day 2024 deals, not verified August 2026 offers. On May 20, 2024, Amazon reportedly discounted the 13-inch M3 MacBook Air with 16GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD to $1,349.99 shipped, with an on-page coupon. The same configuration was reportedly $1,399 at Best Buy and B&H. The roundup also included M2 Mac mini prices starting at $499.
For the period, the 16GB/512GB MacBook Air was the stronger all-in computer deal, while the $499 Mac mini was the lower-cost option for people who already owned a monitor and peripherals.

These figures came from a May 20, 2024 deal report. Memorial Day fell on May 27 that year. Unless a retailer independently confirms the same price, treat every figure above as archival.
The featured MacBook Air deal
The headline offer was a 13-inch MacBook Air with Apple’s M3 chip, 16GB of unified memory, and a 512GB SSD. The reported Amazon price was $1,349.99 shipped after applying an on-page coupon. The deal was listed in Silver, Starlight, Space Gray, and Midnight, although color and configuration availability was retailer-specific.

Best Buy and B&H were reported at $1,399 for the same configuration. The source described Amazon’s price as the lowest it had tracked at that time—not necessarily the lowest price ever across every seller or later promotion.
Why the 16GB/512GB configuration mattered
This was not the entry-level Air. The base model’s 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage can be adequate for light web, office, and school use, but 16GB gives more headroom for many browser tabs, development tools, photo workloads, and demanding multitasking. A 512GB SSD also leaves substantially more room for applications, documents, photos, and local project files.
Apple’s specifications for the 2024 13-inch Air include a 13.6-inch, 2560-by-1664 display rated at 500 nits, an eight-core M3 CPU, configurable eight- or 10-core graphics, MagSafe 3, two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, and a headphone jack. The 512GB configuration included Apple’s 35W dual-port USB-C power adapter. Apple rates the battery for up to 15 hours of wireless web use or 18 hours of Apple TV app movie playback under its test conditions; those are not independent real-world measurements. The M3 generation also added hardware-accelerated ray tracing, AV1 decode, and support for up to two external displays when the built-in display is closed, according to Apple’s launch announcement.
A note about the claimed savings
The original report contains conflicting reference prices. Its headline called the regular price $1,499, while its body called it $1,599 and referred to $149 in savings. Those figures do not reconcile. The defensible facts are the reported $1,349.99 sale price and the retailer comparisons; do not repeat a specific discount amount without identifying this inconsistency.
M2 Mac mini deals: cheaper, but not a complete setup
The M2 Mac mini deals started at $499 for the 8GB/256GB model. The 8GB/512GB model was reported at $699, down from $799. The M2 Pro Mac mini was listed at $1,199 against a stated $1,299 standard price.

The standard M2 Mac mini has an eight-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 8GB of unified memory, and a 256GB SSD. Apple offered 16GB or 24GB memory and up to 2TB of storage as configurations. It supports two displays in the configurations described by Apple’s specifications: one up to 6K over Thunderbolt and another up to 5K over Thunderbolt or 4K over HDMI.

A buyer starting from nothing may also need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, webcam, speakers, cables, and perhaps a hub. Once those costs are included, the gap between a Mac mini and a MacBook Air can shrink considerably.
Which Mac mini storage option made more sense?
The 256GB model was the lowest-cost entry point, but the 512GB version was more practical for buyers keeping photos, large applications, development environments, games, or creative files locally. Neither memory nor internal storage is conventionally user-upgradable, so the $200 difference in the reported sale prices bought meaningful long-term headroom.

The base 8GB model was less suitable for virtual machines, memory-heavy professional software, large creative projects, or people who expect to keep numerous applications open for years. The M2 Pro version should be treated as a separate performance tier rather than simply another M2 Mac mini.
MacBook Air or Mac mini?

The Mac mini is not automatically cheaper after accessories. Conversely, the Air’s higher price includes hardware that a desktop buyer must provide separately. The right comparison is the total cost of the working setup, not the computer prices alone.

What “early Memorial Day deals” meant
This was a retailer-led pre-holiday roundup, not proof of a matching Apple Store sale. The report said Amazon had begun promoting early Memorial Day offers, while Best Buy was advertising major gift-card promotions on appliances. It also mentioned discounts across smart-home products, televisions, e-bikes, tools, accessories, and apparel.

Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H were selling Apple products at their own prices and under their own coupon, inventory, shipping, return, and warranty terms. Readers should not assume that a third-party retailer’s cash discount was available directly from Apple. Apple’s official buying pages remain MacBook Air and Mac mini.
Other Apple discounts mentioned
The same roundup reported an Apple Watch Series 9 GPS + Cellular 45mm with a Midnight Sport Loop at $399, described as $129 below a $529 regular price. Other band configurations were listed at $429, and a silver Milanese Loop configuration at $699. The report also mentioned discounts on the M4 iPad Pro, M2 iPad Air, and newly launched iPad cases and sleeves.
Those offers were also tied to the 2024 promotion and should not be treated as live prices in 2026.

Checklist before buying a similar deal
- Confirm the exact configuration: “16GB MacBook Air” may still mean a 256GB SSD. Check memory and storage separately.
- Check the coupon: The reported $1,349.99 Air price required clipping an Amazon on-page coupon.
- Verify condition and seller: Confirm that the listing is new rather than refurbished, open-box, or marketplace-sold.
- Review warranty and returns: Retailer policies and Apple coverage can differ by seller and condition.
- Check stock by color: A deal page may remain indexed after a specific color or configuration sells out.
- Calculate the Mac mini total: Add the monitor, input devices, camera, speakers, cables, and any hub you need.
- Use current listings: A 2024 article cannot establish an August 2026 price or whether the M3 Air and M2 Mac mini remain current-generation products.
For refurbished alternatives, Apple’s official refurbished Mac store may offer different models and configurations, but each listing still requires a check of memory, storage, warranty, and return terms. When comparing Amazon, Best Buy, or B&H, use the retailer’s live product page rather than an old deal article.
