The deal was real, but it is not current. On February 1, 2025, HotHardware reported a one-day Best Buy promotion pricing the 77-inch LG C3 OLED at $1,499.99—$800 below the retailer’s cited $2,299.99 reference price and 47% below the television’s original $3,599 MSRP. LG now lists the C3 as discontinued, so that price should be treated as historical rather than a live offer.
For shoppers finding remaining, open-box, refurbished, or marketplace stock in 2026, the C3 can still be compelling. The right decision depends on seller, condition, warranty, room brightness, and whether a newer OLED or mini-LED television is close in price.
What the original LG C3 deal actually was

HotHardware called the price an “all-time low.” That is a claim about the price history observed for that dated promotion, not a manufacturer guarantee or proof that no later clearance, open-box, or marketplace listing was cheaper. The comparison also applied to a particular retailer and date. It did not establish that every store had stock or that the price covered refurbished and third-party inventory. Why the C3 was attractive at $1,499.99
The C3 paired a very large screen with features that remain useful for movies and gaming:

- Brightness Booster technology on applicable screen sizes, plus Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Filmmaker Mode.
- Native 120Hz refresh and 4K/120Hz support for compatible consoles and PCs.
- Four HDMI inputs with HDMI 2.1-related features including eARC, variable refresh rate (VRR), and auto low-latency mode (ALLM).
- Support for NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium.
LG lists the 77-inch set at 3,840×2,160 resolution, with a 2.2-channel down-firing speaker system, Wi-Fi 6E on the OLED77C3PUA page, and a 300×200 VESA mounting pattern. LG’s U.S. product page lists approximately 51.8 pounds without the stand and 59.7 pounds with it, along with a one-year limited parts-and-labor warranty. What you give up with a discounted C3
The C3 is a 2023-generation television. Newer LG sets can offer improved processing and brightness, and current inventory generally makes delivery, returns, and warranty support simpler.

OLED is also not automatically best for every room or routine. A mini-LED television can be brighter for a sunlit living room and may be preferable for daytime sports. OLED owners should consider image-retention or burn-in risk when static logos, news tickers, desktop windows, or game interfaces remain on screen for long periods. These are usage-related risks, not an inevitability.
The built-in speakers are adequate for casual viewing but unlikely to replace a soundbar or surround system in a large room. A 77-inch panel is thin but still a large glass product: measure the wall, doorway, stand, and elevator, and plan for two-person handling. Shipping damage, limited return windows, accumulated panel hours on open-box units, and missing original packaging are all reasons to inspect promptly.

HotHardware noted that the Amazon S85D listing initially pointed to a marketplace seller and advised shoppers to find a unit sold and shipped by Amazon. That is still a useful rule: seller identity can matter as much as the headline price.
What to buy instead in 2026
Choose remaining C3 stock when…
You find a genuinely new unit from an authorized retailer at a substantial discount, the return period is clear, and you value OLED contrast and four HDMI 2.1 inputs more than having the latest processor. A verified clearance price far below newer models can justify buying an older generation.
Choose a newer OLED when…
The price gap is modest, you want current inventory and support, or you use the TV heavily for gaming or as a PC display. LG’s 2026 lineup includes a 77-inch C6 with a stated $3,699 MSRP and announced March 2026 availability; actual retail discounts may make the comparison more favorable. Choose mini-LED when…
Your room is very bright, you watch lots of daytime sports or broadcast television, you want the largest possible screen at a lower price, or static content will remain visible for many hours. Mini-LED generally trades OLED’s pixel-level blacks for higher sustained brightness and less concern about static images.
Checklist before buying a discontinued 77-inch C3
- Confirm condition: New, open-box, refurbished, and marketplace units are not equivalent.
- Check the seller: Prefer an authorized retailer or a clearly identified seller with a manufacturer-valid warranty.
- Read the return policy: Confirm who pays for return shipping and how long you have to report panel or shipping damage.
- Ask about panel hours: Open-box OLEDs may already have significant use.
- Inspect delivery immediately: Photograph the carton and panel before signing or discarding packaging.
- Price the complete purchase: Include delivery, installation, wall-mount hardware, protection plans, and taxes.
- Match the room and use: Consider glare, static graphics, viewing distance, and whether 77 inches physically fits.
- Verify gaming equipment: Use a suitable HDMI 2.1 cable; enable 4K/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM on both the source and TV. Actual results depend on the console or PC, game, cable, and settings.
- Plan audio: The C3 supports Dolby Atmos and eARC, but a soundbar or receiver may be appropriate for a large room.
Bottom line
The LG 77-inch C3 OLED really did reach $1,499.99 at Best Buy on February 1, 2025, and that was an unusually strong price for a new 77-inch OLED. The promotion is expired, however, and LG now lists the C3 as discontinued. In 2026, buy one only after verifying condition, seller, warranty, return rights, and the delivered price. If a newer OLED is close in cost—or your room is bright and your viewing includes lots of static content—a current OLED or mini-LED model may be the safer value.
