The offer is over. On February 4, 2025, Koodo Mobile and Virgin Plus restored an 8GB monthly data bonus on two select plans: 58GB for $45 a month or 83GB for $55. The reported prices and plan features were not identical, and the promotion was replaced or withdrawn within days. These are historical terms, not plans available today.
What the February 2025 offer included
According to contemporaneous reporting, each carrier added 8GB of monthly bonus data to select 4G plans. The bonus was added to the listed base allowance, rather than replacing it.

Koodo’s quoted monthly prices included a $5 automatic-payment discount. A customer not eligible for or not using that discount could pay more. Virgin Plus was not reported as using the same autopay discount structure. The figures are historical advertised prices; taxes, fees, add-ons, and any device costs are separate considerations.
Plan features and differences
The February 2025 listings described both carriers’ plans as including unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting. Virgin Plus also included unlimited international texting. Koodo’s plans included one selectable perk, with examples such as rollover data or premium voicemail. Those are the features reported for the historical plans, not a statement of either carrier’s current terms.

Both carriers’ offers were 4G plans, not 5G plans. Their reported speed caps differed: up to 100Mbps for Koodo and up to 150Mbps for Virgin Plus. A speed cap is a ceiling, not a promise that a customer will consistently reach that speed; coverage, congestion, device capability, and location matter. Canada-wide calling and texting also did not mean that U.S. or international roaming was included.
Why the bonus returned—and how quickly it ended
Koodo and Virgin Plus had previously offered Lunar New Year incentives, then raised prices and briefly removed the extra data. After Rogers-owned Fido restored bonus data, Koodo and Virgin Plus followed with the 8GB offers, according to the January 2025 pricing coverage and the February 4 report.

- February 4: Koodo and Virgin Plus were reported to have restored 8GB on the $45 and $55 plans.
- February 6: Koodo’s bonus was later reported with this end date. The original update did not establish an identical Virgin Plus expiry date.
- February 7: Coverage reported that both carriers’ Lunar New Year deals had ended. See the deal-ending roundup.
- February 10–11: Virgin Plus changed its lineup, removing the $55/75GB plan and changing the $45 plan to $45/60GB, while Koodo moved to different bonus amounts. Details were reported by MobileSyrup and in its Koodo follow-up.
By August 2026, the available sources did not verify a renewed Lunar New Year promotion. How competitive were the plans at the time?
Data totals alone did not settle which plan was the better value. In the February 4 comparison, Fido reportedly offered 60GB for $45, more data than either carrier’s $45 offer, while its $55/80GB plan had less data than Koodo and Virgin Plus’s 83GB offers. Fido’s reported bonus data could be time-limited to 24 months; the cited Koodo and Virgin Plus reporting did not establish the same bonus-duration terms for their 8GB offers.

Historical coverage also cited $39/60GB offers from Freedom Mobile and Public Mobile, with 5G or 5G+ and Canada/U.S./Mexico usage. Those plans looked stronger on price, network generation, and roaming in that snapshot, but they were not necessarily equivalent in coverage, eligibility, or service. These are February 2025 comparisons, not current recommendations or verified 2026 prices. Check the carriers’ current terms and coverage before switching.
For a fair comparison, check the actual monthly price after any autopay condition, whether data is 4G or 5G, the speed cap, roaming geography, bonus expiry, eligibility, and local coverage. Also check activation fees and whether changing plans would remove a legacy discount or perk. Historical screenshots and plan listings show what was advertised at a particular time; they do not prove every customer qualified.

Who qualified?
The contemporaneous report described the offers as applying to select plans, but the available evidence does not establish all eligibility rules. In particular, it does not confirm whether the February 4 bonus was available to every new customer, existing customers changing plans, device-financing customers, or BYOD activations. A later Koodo promotion was explicitly described as BYOD-only, but that later condition should not be assumed to have applied to this earlier Lunar New Year offer.

Those conditions could not safely be inferred from the headline data totals.
