KIKI World announced a $7 million initial funding round on April 9, 2024. The round included a16z crypto, The Estée Lauder Companies’ New Incubation Ventures, and other investors. KIKI’s model lets communities help shape products through voting and feedback, while rewarding participation with points and other digital benefits.
Despite the company’s use of “ownership” language, the available evidence does not show that customers received equity, shareholder rights, profit participation, or legal ownership of KIKI World. The better description is community participation recorded and rewarded through a blend of commerce, loyalty, creator tools, and—at least in the company’s original model—blockchain infrastructure.
What KIKI World raised—and who invested
KIKI World said it raised $7 million in a round announced April 9, 2024. Coverage variously describes it as an initial funding round or seed round. The principal named investors were a16z crypto and Estée Lauder’s New Incubation Ventures.
Other reported backers included Double Down, Advancit Capital, Red DAO, Orange DAO, 2 Punks Capital, and GMoney. It is therefore more accurate to say that KIKI raised $7 million in a round backed by a16z crypto and Estée Lauder’s venture arm than to describe it as money raised solely from a16z.

KIKI was founded by Jana Bobosikova, Brendon Garner, and Ricky Chan. The Los Angeles-based company launched in 2023 and initially presented itself as a beauty brand and “community commerce” platform.
The company had also participated in a16z’s 10-week Crypto Startup School accelerator in 2023, reportedly applying alongside more than 8,000 applicants. That connection helps explain a16z’s interest, but accelerator participation is not proof of revenue, retention, profitability, or product-market fit. Inc.’s funding coverage reported that KIKI had more than 12,000 online community members at the time; that was a historical figure, not a verified current user count.
Why a16z crypto and Estée Lauder invested
KIKI sits at the intersection of three businesses: a beauty product company, a consumer software platform, and a creator-commerce marketplace.

- a16z crypto had an obvious interest in the company’s use of blockchain-linked participation, digital rewards, and community coordination.
- New Incubation Ventures gave Estée Lauder exposure to emerging beauty and consumer technologies. Its stated rationale centered on KIKI’s ability to help consumers co-create products and interact with brands differently.
The pairing is strategically notable. a16z brings crypto and software expertise, while Estée Lauder brings experience in beauty products, branding, and consumer behavior. However, Estée Lauder’s investment does not establish that it acquired KIKI, controls the company, or distributes KIKI products through its established brand portfolio.
How KIKI’s co-creation model works
The basic process is straightforward:
- A creator or brand launches a campaign.
- Community members vote, swipe, rank options, or answer surveys about a product or design.
- KIKI aggregates the feedback and uses it to guide development.
- A winning concept—such as a shade, product format, or design—is developed and offered for sale.
- Participants earn KIKI points or other campaign rewards for voting and related engagement.
In practical terms, a community might choose a temporary hair color, nail design, or packaging concept. KIKI then turns the selected idea into a physical product or, in some cases, supports a creator selling physical or digital goods.
Current co-creation materials describe a first vote earning 50 KIKI Points and subsequent votes earning 5 points, with voting available as often as once per day in certain campaigns. A separate signup page describes a 100-point signup or first-vote bonus. These are campaign and program rules that can change, not guaranteed permanent rates. See KIKI’s co-creation page and join page.
Where blockchain fits
Contemporary reporting described KIKI’s original system as using blockchain infrastructure to record member votes on Ethereum, preserve participation history, and issue digital tokens or other blockchain-linked rewards. Users could reportedly receive an automatically created on-chain account after signing up with an email address, reducing the need to manage a crypto wallet. Coverage of the original model described this as a walletless Web3 experience.

The important qualification is that the current public KIKI experience emphasizes campaigns, points, rewards, and shopping. Its current pages do not prominently document the underlying blockchain, wallet architecture, token contract, or whether every current vote is still recorded on Ethereum. It is safer to say that KIKI has described using blockchain infrastructure in its original model than to claim that all current activity remains on-chain.
Does “customer ownership” mean equity?
No evidence in the reviewed material shows that KIKI participants received ownership of the company. There is no documented evidence that users received common or preferred stock, membership interests, revenue-sharing rights, liquidation rights, or governance rights over KIKI World as a legal entity.
In KIKI’s context, “ownership” appears to refer to ownership-like participation: users influence product decisions, accumulate a record of contributions, and may receive points, collectibles, discounts, or products. Those are different from owning the business.
Blockchain can make a vote or digital reward persistent and verifiable, but placing information on a blockchain does not automatically create equity, intellectual-property rights, or a financial claim. KIKI’s current terms of use also do not describe customers as shareholders. They instead address platform participation, marketplace responsibilities, and rights over submitted content.
What products has KIKI made?
Reported early products included temporary hair paint, a liquid makeup or face-and-body paint marker, nail products, and hydrocolloid blemish patches. The current catalog includes products such as:
- Pretty Nail Graffiti peel-off nail polish;
- Play Paint Marker;
- SOS/Spot On blemish stickers; and
- 1 Night Strand temporary hair color.
KIKI has also promoted creator collaborations and limited-edition products. Its Pretty Nail Graffiti product page describes a product developed through community input and uses preorder language.
Prices observed on KIKI’s catalog in August 2026 included approximately $12.99–$15.99 for blemish patches, $29 for Pretty Nail Graffiti, $34 for 1 Night Strand, and $39 for Play Paint Marker. Prices, inventory, shipping, and campaign availability can change.

The business case for community-created products
KIKI’s approach could help brands and creators in several ways:
- Earlier demand signals: voting may reveal preferences before production decisions are finalized.
- Potentially less unwanted inventory: the company’s rationale is that community input can reduce the chance of making products nobody wants, although the reviewed evidence does not prove a reduction in waste.
- Creator distribution: creators can involve followers in product development rather than relying only on sponsored posts.
- Direct engagement: brands may build a first-party relationship with participants instead of depending entirely on social platforms and paid advertising.
- More aligned rewards: participants can receive points or products for actions that would otherwise generate unpaid attention.
KIKI’s current positioning also extends beyond its own beauty products. Its maker platform says creators can launch projects, collect feedback, and sell physical or digital products.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. The model’s limitations and risks
Votes are not the same as broad-market demand
People who vote are usually highly engaged members of a community. Their preferences may not represent occasional buyers or the wider market. A winning poll can show enthusiasm among participants without proving that enough people will pay for the finished product.
Rewards can distort feedback
Points, streaks, and product rewards may increase participation, but they can also encourage low-effort or strategic voting. High engagement volume is not necessarily high-quality product research.
Blockchain does not make the business decentralized
KIKI appears to control the platform, campaign design, reward rules, product development, marketplace, and much of the customer experience. Blockchain may add persistence or auditability to selected records while leaving the commercial system substantially centralized.

Community members can suggest colors and concepts, but they cannot replace formula testing, safety review, labeling, manufacturing controls, fulfillment, and customer support. Opening product decisions to a community can also create brand-consistency and quality-control challenges.
Platform terms matter
KIKI’s provider terms say that KIKI acts as an intermediary. Providers set prices and remain responsible for product-related customer service, applicable taxes, and product obligations. The terms state that KIKI retains a 10% transaction fee on product purchases. They also grant KIKI broad rights to use submitted content under the license described in the agreement.

- Collagen Wrapping Mask: Provides overnight elasticity care with a collagen wrapping film that locks in skin’s firmness and prevents elasticity loss.
For creators, that means the platform’s “free” signup is not the same as cost-free participation. Sellers should review the fee, content, fulfillment, tax, and customer-service provisions before relying on the platform.
Where KIKI stands now
KIKI’s current website presents a broader creator-commerce platform rather than only a conventional beauty label. Users can vote on campaigns, earn points, and shop products made from winning ideas, while creators can launch projects and sell physical or digital goods. Beauty remains part of the catalog, but the platform’s present ambition appears wider.

Product availability is limited by inventory, and KIKI’s terms do not make the company a blanket endorser of products listed by providers.
The available public material does not establish KIKI’s current revenue, valuation, profitability, active-user count, retention, repeat-purchase rate, token value, or whether the original Ethereum-based architecture remains central to the product. None of those outcomes should be inferred from the $7 million financing or the existence of a current product catalog.
Bottom line
KIKI World’s $7 million round is a bet on combining beauty products, creator distribution, community voting, rewards, and Web3 infrastructure. The most meaningful innovation is not simply putting cosmetics on a blockchain. It is using community participation to influence what gets made and then connecting that participation to commerce.
But “community ownership” should not be confused with company ownership. Based on the available evidence, KIKI users receive influence, participation records, points, and possible rewards—not documented equity or shareholder rights. The central business question is whether those mechanics produce better products and stronger customer economics than conventional product research, creator marketing, and loyalty programs.
