Before paying, confirm the live seller, license type, activation process, refund policy, and included services. Intuit’s current U.S. sales policy makes this old promotion more complicated than its headline suggests.

What the original QuickBooks deal offered
The promotion advertised Intuit QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024 for Windows for $249.99, compared with a stated regular price of $699. That works out to an advertised saving of about 64.2%: $699 minus $249.99 is $449.01, or roughly 64% of $699.
The offer was published by BleepingComputer on May 29, 2025. It directed buyers to a StackCommerce checkout, required an account or registration in the StackCommerce store, and stated that availability was limited and prices could change. BleepingComputer also disclosed that it could earn a commission from qualifying purchases.

The deal listing promoted expense tracking, invoicing, inventory management, purchase orders, reporting, bank-feed integration, job costing, time tracking, customer and vendor management, and data import from older QuickBooks versions or spreadsheets. Those are claims from the promotion, not independent testing.
Is the $249.99 offer still available?
It should not be treated as a current deal without live verification. The source page is more than a year old, and the available evidence does not confirm that the $249.99 checkout remains active. The promotion is historically documented, but it is not a verified current offer.
Do not assume that an old deal page proves that the product is still in stock, that the price remains $249.99, or that a supplied activation key will work. A current listing would need to show the live checkout price, seller identity, redemption process, written license terms, and refund policy.
Why “lifetime subscription” is misleading
“Lifetime subscription” combines terms that can mean different things. A subscription usually grants access for a recurring period and may include updates or connected services. A perpetual license or “lifetime download” generally means the buyer may continue using a particular software version, subject to its license agreement, activation requirements, technical compatibility, and service policies.

The original promotion used “lifetime download” language, but Intuit says it no longer makes non-subscription or perpetual versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, and Mac. That conflict should be resolved by the merchant’s current written terms, not by the headline.
What “Pro Plus 2024” means for buyers
The name matters. “Pro Plus” has generally been associated with QuickBooks Desktop’s subscription product line rather than an unrestricted perpetual license. The advertised edition is also specifically for Windows, not macOS, and it is a 2024 product platform—not a newly released annual version.
Do not infer the license type from the word “lifetime.” Before purchase, determine whether the key is:
- A perpetual license
- A time-limited subscription
- An existing-customer renewal
- An upgrade entitlement
- A reseller-issued activation code
The exact merchant terms control. If the checkout does not clearly answer these questions, that uncertainty is a reason to walk away.

Intuit’s current U.S. sales policy
Intuit says it stopped selling QuickBooks Desktop software online to new U.S. customers after September 30, 2024, and no longer sells new U.S. QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus subscriptions through its ordinary online channel. This does not by itself prove that every third-party promotion is fraudulent. It does mean the transaction should not be described as an official current Intuit lifetime offer. Existing Desktop subscribers may have renewal or upgrade rights that do not apply to a new third-party purchaser; Intuit’s Desktop FAQ distinguishes between those situations.
What to verify before buying
- Seller: Confirm whether the transaction is with StackCommerce, Intuit, or another reseller. Check the checkout domain and avoid pages that imitate Intuit branding without using an Intuit domain.
- License: Get the duration, edition, user count, installation limit, transfer rules, and whether multi-user mode is included in writing.
- Activation: Confirm whether activation occurs through an official Intuit account and whether internet access or recurring validation is required.
- Services: Verify separately whether payroll, bank feeds, payments, online backup, integrations, and technical support are included.
- Updates: Determine whether updates mean maintenance for Desktop 2024 only or include future major versions.
- Migration: Confirm the supported conversion path if you are moving from QuickBooks Online, Mac, spreadsheets, or another Desktop edition.
- Refunds: Check what happens if the key is invalid, already used, cannot be activated, or is incompatible with your computer.
- Documentation: Require an invoice, written terms, and a clear explanation of whether the key is new and unused.
- Region: Confirm that the license is valid for U.S. customers and matches your business location.
Walk away if you see these red flags
- Payment by wire transfer, cryptocurrency, gift card, or another unusual method
- A request for remote access to your computer
- A key supplied without an invoice
- Promises of “lifetime payroll” or all future upgrades without written terms
- Several redirects through unrelated domains
- A price far below even the documented $249.99 promotion

Intuit’s requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2024 include native 64-bit Windows 11 and specified Windows Server environments. The listed minimums include a 2.4 GHz processor and 8 GB of RAM for a workstation.

Intuit’s requirements do not support treating this as a general-purpose app for Mac, Chromebook, Linux, emulators, unsupported virtual environments, or ARM-based processors. Check your exact computer before buying. A Windows-only license is a poor fit if you need macOS, mobile access, browser access, or a mixed-device household.

Desktop accounting software can remain installed while online features change or stop working. Intuit’s service discontinuation policy explains that discontinued Desktop versions can lose access to payroll, payments, online banking, online backup, support, and security updates.
Payroll deserves special caution because tax tables, forms, filings, and calculations are time-sensitive. Do not buy this offer assuming payroll is included or will work indefinitely. The same applies to bank feeds, payment processing, cloud backups, and third-party integrations unless the current terms explicitly cover them.
QuickBooks Desktop 2024 is not automatically obsolete: Intuit has described a revised release process under which the 2024 platform receives continuing support. That fact does not validate a third-party activation key or guarantee that every service is included.
Who might consider the offer?
It could suit a Windows user who specifically wants locally installed accounting software, already understands Desktop workflows, does not need Mac or browser access, and can verify the key and license before paying. That buyer must also be comfortable with uncertain third-party support and the possibility that connected services require separate arrangements.
Who should skip it?
- Mac, Chromebook, Linux, and mobile users
- Businesses that need remote collaboration across several devices

Current alternatives

Verify current pricing directly with Intuit.
Xero: A mainstream cloud alternative for businesses comparing online accounting platforms. It is not a substitute for exact QuickBooks Desktop file compatibility or QuickBooks-specific accountant workflows.
FreshBooks: Worth considering for freelancers and service businesses focused on invoicing, time tracking, and client billing. Product-based businesses needing deeper inventory functionality may find it less suitable.
Verdict
The 64%-off QuickBooks promotion was a documented third-party offer: QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024 for Windows at $249.99 versus a stated $699, published May 29, 2025. But it is not a verified current offer, and its “lifetime subscription” wording should not be read as lifetime access to Intuit support, payroll, online services, or future software.
For a new buyer, the safest choice is to use an officially listed current product such as QuickBooks Online or Desktop Enterprise if its features and recurring cost fit your needs.
